Subject: Why can we not just be Christians? |
Bible Note: Dear Not Yet, Sorry, I should have responded to this in my last response. You wrote, "I feel personally that these passages are of little consequence to those of us who are firmly rooted in Christ. However a doctrine such as this, can easily dishearten the sinner who feels unworthy, or even a week child of God." In the Study Bible Forum we study the Bible, not feelings, let alone personal ones. If you are firmly rooted in Christ, then it should not trouble you to dig more deeply into the Word. If the Holy Spirit saw fit to give us His Word, then we must understand it as clearly as possible. If the doctrine is sound, then the sinner should feel disheartened and unworthy. That is the foundation of the Gospel message. If the doctinre is sound, then the weak child of God will be strengthened. We are not to water down the message of the Word so that it does not offend. The Word will always offend. Remember, sound doctrine always divides! It has always divided and always will divide. It will even divide in eternity the sheep and the goats! In Him, Doc For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; (2 Timothy 4:3) |
