NASB | 2 Timothy 1:12 For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Timothy 1:12 This is why I suffer as I do. Still, I am not ashamed; for I know Him [and I am personally acquainted with Him] whom I have believed [with absolute trust and confidence in Him and in the truth of His deity], and I am persuaded [beyond any doubt] that He is able to guard that which I have entrusted to Him until that day [when I stand before Him]. Bible Question: Well then What does Ephesians 4:30 and Eph.1:13-14 mean. I was raised and tought once saved always saved by I dont understand that Scripture? |
Bible Answer: Hi Sara, Ephesians 4:30 "And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption." To grieve (lupeo - to cause grief, sorrow, heaviness) the Holy Spirit is to give Him cause to become very sad. The Holy Spirit seals us to the day of redemption, and He will not "unseal" us, nowhere does the Bible teach that He will. But when we live according to our old ways, this Scripture indicates that He can be sad. This link will give you information on the Greek lupeo: http://www.blueletterbible.org/tmp_dir/words/3/1137089209-2308.html Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Eph 1:14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. This passage also tells us that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit. When the King puts His seal on something, only the King, or the One He authorizes, may claim that which is sealed. I hope this helps, if you still have questions let me know. Love in Christ, Mark |
