Bible Question:
I just noticed that there are no notes on this verse: 1 Thessalonians 5 20 do not despise prophetic utterances. (NASB) 20 prophesyings despise not; (YLT) I have heard some say that it is bad to offer a "word of knowledge" or "prophetic word" to others concerning their life. As an example, someone may come to you and say "The Lord told me to tell you..." so and so. Is this wrong for them to do? If we refuse to listen, are we disobeying this scripture? Any Comments? Bible Answer: If any prophet, priest, or anyone else says, 'I have a prophecy from the LORD,' I will punish that person along with his entire family. You should keep asking each other, 'What is the LORD's answer?' or 'What is the LORD saying?' But stop using this phrase, 'prophecy from the LORD.' For people are using it to give authority to their own ideas, turning upside down the words of our God, the living God, the LORD Almighty. Jeremiah 23:34-36 (New Living Translation) |
