Bible Note: Colin, An excellent book to answer all you question is "You and Your Bible", by Evangelcal Training Association. 1) The early copy of Septuagint did not contain the apocryphal books. (That is were the 66 books of the Bible (Today's bible) comes from). 2) The Roman Catholic Council of Trent in 1545,when the Romanists, in opposition to the Protestants, insisted that the Apocrypha was inspired. (Note: It would seem that that it happened in opposition to the Protestants and not because of any reaction to the Protestants. 3) It is my understanding that the lay-Catholics of that period was not allowed to interpret or in some cases read the Bible. They went along with the Church's Leaders. 1) and 2) information was taken from "You and Your Bible" by Evan. Training Association. 3) and Notes was added by me. |
