NASB | 1 Corinthians 14:6 ¶ But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking in tongues, what will I profit you unless I speak to you either by way of revelation or of knowledge or of prophecy or of teaching? |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 14:6 ¶ Now, believers, if I come to you speaking in unknown tongues, how will I benefit you unless I also speak to you [clearly] either by revelation [revealing God's mystery], or by knowledge [teaching about God], or by prophecy [foretelling the future, speaking a new message from God to the people], or by instruction [teaching precepts that develop spiritual maturity]? |

Bible Note: Mark: I do not equate praying in a tongue with "a private prayer language." When I hear the term "private prayer language" I think of each person having his own special, unique language ("tongue") in which to pray. It is not praying in a tongue that I do not find in Scripture. What I do not find is a special, unique language that differs from one person to the next. I may be misunderstanding the term "private prayer language." But since the term is neither used nor defined in Scripture, I have no way of knowing if I am misdefining it. I do believe that "praying in a tongue" was and still is a biblically valid practice. Grace to you, Kalos |
