NASB | 1 Corinthians 14:6 ¶ But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking in tongues, what will I profit you unless I speak to you either by way of revelation or of knowledge or of prophecy or of teaching? |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 14:6 ¶ Now, believers, if I come to you speaking in unknown tongues, how will I benefit you unless I also speak to you [clearly] either by revelation [revealing God's mystery], or by knowledge [teaching about God], or by prophecy [foretelling the future, speaking a new message from God to the people], or by instruction [teaching precepts that develop spiritual maturity]? |
Bible Question: revpete79 please help me with this I really want to be able to speak in tongues and I need to know how to get it. Do I needed someone to pray over me for it? |
Bible Answer: “Now, brothers, if I come to you and speak in tongues, what good will I be to you, unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or word of instruction?" (1 Corinthians 14:6). The gift of tongues in today's society would be for the purpose of communicating God's Word with a person of another language (Acts 2:6-12). The gift of tongues is not something you can simply "want" and then pray for and receive. If you haven't already been blessed with this spiritual gift, you probably don't have it. 1 Corinthians 12:29-30 states that not everyone has the gift of speaking in tongues. |
