NASB | 1 Corinthians 14:6 ¶ But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking in tongues, what will I profit you unless I speak to you either by way of revelation or of knowledge or of prophecy or of teaching? |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 14:6 ¶ Now, believers, if I come to you speaking in unknown tongues, how will I benefit you unless I also speak to you [clearly] either by revelation [revealing God's mystery], or by knowledge [teaching about God], or by prophecy [foretelling the future, speaking a new message from God to the people], or by instruction [teaching precepts that develop spiritual maturity]? |
Bible Question: revpete79 please help me with this I really want to be able to speak in tongues and I need to know how to get it. Do I needed someone to pray over me for it? |
Bible Answer: I have heard debates that support and do-away with tongues in modern day. Although I have an opinion on this I would rather not get in to that right now. One thing that we know for sure is tongues were a sign for the unbeliever (1 Cor 14:22) and needed interpretation (14:5,13). I'm unclear on your reasons for wanting tongues, but I would like to offer some advise. Since by the Holy Spirit we have the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:16) we should be proclaiming the mind and counsel of God. Which is what Paul means by prophecy (14:1) this for the building up of the Body of Christ (14:3,4). I want to submit to you when, you speak the truth to an unbeliever, whether a neighbor or co-worker: YOU ARE USING A TONGUE THAT NEEDS NO INTERPRETATION. The Truth in Love JAYELL |
