Bible Note: Greetings Angel! Don't take me wrong my friend! I believe in Biblical submission. But, I think that the concept of 'obedience' has been read into the term to a greater extent than the word merits. To me, Eph. 5:21 is evidence of this. The same word is used in the same immediate context as the passage dealing with marriage. Yet, the word clearly does not indicate a 'I said this, so you had better obey' relationship. To me, the word (and the context) stresses willing and loving servanthood. All Christians, in all of their relationships, should seek to serve others. The wife should serve the husband. The husband should serve the wife. The child should serve the parent. The parent should serve the child, ect.... This word is used throughout Eph. 5, so I can't see how it would be taking it out of context. :-) In fact, I would argue that everything that follows Eph. 5:21 is a detailed description of what Paul meant in 5:21, not a change of subject.
