NASB | Romans 8:9 ¶ However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 8:9 ¶ However, you are not [living] in the flesh [controlled by the sinful nature] but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God lives in you [directing and guiding you]. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him [and is not a child of God]. [Rom 8:14] |
Bible Question: What does "you are not in the flesh" mean? |
Bible Answer: Hi Thomas8, CDBJ has given you a good Scripture to answer your question. 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore if any man is in (Christ), he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold new things have come." Romans 8:11, "But if the Spirit of Him who raised jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His (Spirit) who indwells you. So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh--" 1 Corinthians 15:50, "Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of (God); nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable." Romans 8:16, "...we are children of (God)." 2 Corinthians 5:20, "...we are ambassadors for (Christ)." Galatians 5:24, "Now those who belong to Christ (Jesus) have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit." The parentheses are mine for comparisons of the Scriptures. I hope they help. From the heart, Ray |
