Bible Note: So...kreature, if immersion in H2O is part of salvation, what is the rest of the story: the "other" part? If we say, "Well, the other part is Christ's shed blood on the cross.": if we say that, we are saying that Christ's work on the cross is merely a PART of salvation. And that's tantamount to saying that His shed blood is insufficient of itself, that Christ's atoning death on the cross was lacking in something. What it lacked was the saving power of H2O -- being dipped in plain old water. Furthermore, it means that Paul had his soteriology all wrong. Apparently he didn't know about immersion being part of salvation. For that matter, neither did the Holy Spirit under whose inspiration Paul wrote when he said in Ephesians 2:8,9 "For by grace you have been saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast." How it is possible to make a statement that immersion is a part of salvation without denying the all-sufficiency of Christ's finished work on the cross is beyond my ability to comprehend. --Hank |
