Subject: what is the importance of tongues? |
Bible Note: Greetings 1-2Steve! First of all, welcome to the forum! :-) Secondly, I don't believe that prayon said anything about tongues being evidence of salvation. You make several statements with which I would differ though my friend. 1) You claim that all tongues today is just mumbo jumbo. How would you prove this? ;-) 2) You claim that every instance of 'glossa' refers to a human tongue, expect for two from Isaiah. Again, how would you proof this? I distinctly remember 1 Cor. 13:1 mentioning the 'glossa' of angels. :-) 3) You claim that 1 Cor. 14:4 is a negative statement, but there is nothing in the text to indicate this is the case. Paul never says that the first case is bad, while the second case is good. It seems much more likely that the first is good, but the second is even better, especially when Paul immediately says in the very next verse that he would like everyone to speak in tongues. :-) 4) Finally, though the church at Cornith was certainly carnal, it does not automatically follow that everything they did was wrong. After all, they also took up offerings and served communion. :-) In fairness though, there are also some things that you said with which I fully agree. 1) People should not look down on those who do not speak in tongues, but neither should those who do not speak in tongues look down upon those who do. God gives gives as He chooses. 2) We are saved by grace, not by tongues. As for the 10 reasons, I may not agree with all of them, but several are certainly valid, but we could discuss those later if you would like. Again, welcome to the forum.
