AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, "Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ because of the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. |
Subject: Could this be right? |
Bible Note: Hi disciplerami, Putting Searcher's broken sentences aside, he pointed you very well to Acts 5:32. Did you read it? It says that we are His witnesses of these things, NKJ. And so is the Holy Spirit [or holy spirit] WHICH [so says the Greek] God has given to those who obey Him. May I offer to you this rendering of the previous verse that I think would be appropriate to the Greek manuscripts. This is the NKJ with one additional pronoun. Acts 5:31, "Him [this One] God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, that *He/ might give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins." Let us be careful that we are not fighting against God. Compare Acts 5:39 and Acts 23:9, NKJ. For it is He and not water that offers forgiveness of sins. Acts 10:43, "Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him/ receives forgiveness of sins." The slashes are mine for verse comparisons. And yes, I say that I see no water in the verse. From the heart, Ray |
