Bible Question:
Mark 16:16 says "He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved...". (NASB) Tim (Morant61), you said, "We only have to accept His free gift of salvation." What does one have to do to accept this free gift? Mark 16:16 still says "be baptized" to me. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Mitelt! I have addressed the issue of Mark 16:16 many times. If you would like to read those posts, simply use the search feature. But, allow me to add a couple of other verses which specifically address this issue. Acts 16:29-31 says, "The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 He then brought them out and asked, 'Sirs, what must I do to be saved?' 31 They replied, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.'" This is an extremely important passage. Paul is asked point blank, "What must I do to be saved?" Notice the response that Paul gives. He doesn't say that one must believe and be baptized. He doesn't say that one must believe and never sin again. He doesn't say that one must believe and attend church, ect.... He simply says that one must believe. John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Jesus never mentions baptism in this verse, yet the one who believes has eternal life! John 1:12 - "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God" 1 Tim. 4:10 - "(and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe." If we add anything else to faith, then it becomes 'works' my friend. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
