Bible Question: Thank you Doc, you truly answer questions that are asked. You are a truly enlightened person. When you do not know you yourself, you search the scriptures as everyone should. As you used John 3:16 as a reference point, does an aborted fetus have the capacity to believe or understand anything, much less Jesus Christ? I know that much has been talked about concerning this subject. An aborted fetus has of course not yet sinned, and so has not yet repented for anything for it has not sinned against GOD. I think everyone knows where I am going with this. What happens to the soul of an aborted fetus if it has already been deposited into the fetus? No sin, yet no repentence, no belief system, no understanding? |
Bible Answer: Hello Colton, This is dealt throught the Doctrine of Original sin. Mankind has the imputed sin nature of Adam in him. In other words, we're not sinners because we sin, we sin because we're sinners! As Edwards writes, "By Original Sin, as the phrase has been most commonly used by divines, is meant the innate sinful depravity of the heart." We know from Psalm 51:5- "Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me." (NASB) Further, Rom 5:12 states, "...Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned--" (NASB) As Jonathan Edwards notes in his classic work, "The Great Christian Doctrine of Original Sin Defended"- "One thing more is to be observed here, that the topic mainly insisted on by the opposers of the doctrine of original sin, is the justice of God; both in their objections against the imputation of Adam’s sin, and also against its being so ordered, that men should come into the world with a corrupt and ruined nature, without having merited the displeasure of their Creator by any personal fault." I can only offer that our God is a gracious God, and as such I can trust that He has provision for a fetus or infant who have no ability to understand! I hope this helps, BradK |
