Bible Question: Please explain John 19:27 |
Bible Answer: Greetings Betty Jones, This is how I have always understood this verse.. As He was dying on the cross, Jesus showed His divine love for the woman who was used to bear Him into this world, by placing her in the protective care and household of John. John would then take care of her needs, treating her as his own mother, and therefore, fulfilling the role as the firstborn and breadwinner of the family that Jesus simply could not fulfill for her. In that way, Mary would be taken care of, being provided for by Divine instruction, not spending the rest of her days in sorrow as a poor widow. Thus, Jesus served other people's needs to the very last breath. Blessings to you, Makarios |
