Subject: Did the disciples have a choice? |
Bible Note: Greetings again John, I agree with Searcher, and he wrote an excellent post! Also, both Greg Martin and Tim Moran have written on this subject about how one can resist the calling of Christ, even though we would hope that a person would never do this. Scripture also speaks of an instance of how a person can resist the Holy Spirit! (Acts 7:51) And if a person is resisting the Holy Spirit and Christ, then they are also resisting God the Father, who sent the Son and the Holy Spirit. But God already knows who will accept Him and who will reject/resist him way before the "moment of truth" comes. I do not see any contradiction between what Searcher has stated and the Scripture verses that he has pointed out. It is not man who does the 'calling.' It is not entirely up to man to even react in faith after first hearing the Gospel. However, it is man's duty to repent and to confess Christ as Lord. Do you hold that a man can be saved without repentance or confessing Christ as Lord? This is where I plainly see Scripture contradicting your assertion. Blessings to you, Makarios |
