Bible Note: Hello Jaknik, I wouldn't call them discrepancies, but mere differences in reporting. We must remember that the gospels were not written immediately after the resurrection. I truly believe that from the time copies of manuscripts were made from other copies and so forth...the original will always be intact. There are over 5,000 pieces of documents for the validity of the Bible. And yes there are several that differ, but not to the point where the message is completely tainted, that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the World. We must also realize that history was passed down orally, not written at first. Even in the OT there are some differences. We have to also realize that reading and writing was a privilege not enjoyed by most people of the world at that time. You even have difference in not to recent history as well. There are probably many different accounts of the holocaust, its effects on the world and the nation of Israel. There are also disputes about the number of people actually killed. But the fact remains it actually happened! There is a witness or testimony of thousands of people who saw it happen. The number is not significant, but the fact that a whole people were about to be exterminiated. But yes I agree some careful reading is recommended. It is real easy for us to settle for what is taught over the pulpit or television. The fact remains that the Holy Spirit will always be available to help us in our study. |
