Bible Question:
I'm one hundred percent in agreement with everyone that says that God gives us a new heart when we are in Christ. (Ezekiel 36:26-27) Where I am puzzled is when I see these verses that say (apparently to me anyway) that these folks who received the Word did so BECAUSE their heart was different. To put it another way, it isn't saying that their heart was different AFTER they heard it (although it obviously would be), it appears that the heart in both of these examples was already open BEFORE they heard the Word. Bible Answer: Hi Huron, You made a good point that their hearts were ready. The seeds of the word of God have to fall on good soil; lives that are open to spiritual things, minds that are not set on the flesh. Romans 8:9, "However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the *Spirit of (Christ), he does not belong to Him." Luke 8:10, "And He said, "To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of *God, but to the rest, it is in parables, in order that SEEING THEY MAY NOT SEE, AND HEARING THEY MAY NOT UNDERSTAND. 11 Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of (God)."
