Bible Note: Salvation is not a reward for the good... ...things we have done. Jeff W: You write: "And when James states that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only, well I believe what he wrote through inspiration before I would hear some modern day commentary." Was it modern day commentary when the Apostle Paul wrote the following? Romans 3:28 (ESV) For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law. Ephes. 2:8-10 (ESV) For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, [9] not a result of works, so that no one may boast. [10] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. The New Living Translation Ephesians 2:8 God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 2:9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. This is not to dispute you, my friend. I merely present this for your consideration. Grace to you, Kalos |
