Subject: What purpose does The Holy Spirit serve? |
Bible Note: Hi tj57h@cs.com, Tim, Many in this thread are speaking of the Holy Spirit as an "it" and a helper. I would say that the Holy Spirit is a Person and the holy spirit is an it. I see the Holy Spirit as the Giver and the holy spirit as the gift. So for Luke 11:13 when it speaks of good gifts I believe that it speaks of gifts of holy spirit. The Father in heaven (who is Spirit) will give good gifts to those who ask Him. I am not saying that the Son and Holy Spirit are not Gifts. John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." John 4:10, "Jesus answered and said to her, 'If you knew the gift of God, and who it [He] is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water." John 14:16, "And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever." Those Scriptures speak of the Son and the Spirit as Gifts. But I am asking people to consider the possibility of the gift of the holy spirit. John 3:6, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, but that which is born of the *spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' [Or, from above]."
