Bible Question:
Why in this scripture does the son ask for the Holy Spirit and why does the Father give it to him, what purpose does The Holy Spirit serve, if he has already been baptized into the Spirit to obtain his relationship as a son? Curious, Tim Hines |
Bible Answer: Even though good fathers make mistakes, they treat their children well. How much better our perfect heavenly Father treats His children! The most important gift He could ever give us is the Holy Spirit (Act2:1_4) whom He promise to give all believers after His death, ressurection and return to heaven (John 15:26). The Holy Spirit bears witness to Jesus' divine sonship, true humanity and atoning death. 1John 5:8 Without the Holy Spirit we cannot please God, Romans 8:8 says: So then they that are in the flesh canot please God. We do not how to approach the Father without the help of the Holy Spirit. In verse 26, it tells us that the Spirit helps us in our weakensses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. We see from scripture that the Holy Spirit is the one that knows the heart and mind of the Father. As believers, you are not left to your own resources to cope with problems. Even when you don't know the right words to pray, the Holy Spirit prays with and for you, and God answers. With God helping you to pray, you don't need to be afraid to come before Him, Ask the Holy Spirit to intercede for you "according to the will of God" Then when you bring your requests to God, trust that He will always do what is best. I hope this helps you to see the purpose of the Holy Spirit. In Christ Ann |
