Subject: Does the OT talk about resurrection? |
Bible Note: Greetings CDBJ! I'm very comfortable with Greek. I use it all the time. However, my Hebrew is very rusty. I took it during the year that I lost my 9 month old son to heart failure. So, I really don't remember all that much. Having said that, I would have to disagree with their analysis of the meaning of 'amad' in Daniel. Here is why: 1) 'Amad' in general means to stand up or rise, not leave. 2) 'Amad' is used 36 times in Daniel alone. All of the occurances seem to fall into 3 possible meanings. a) To stand physically. b) To be able to stand before a king or ruler (ability) c) To appear 3) 'Amad' is used twice in Daniel 12:1. To make it mean 'leave or disappear' in the first instance and to mean 'guard' in the second instance would not make sense. I'm not saying that it is not possible that Michael is the one referred to in 2 Thess. 2:7. I'm just saying that the word 'amad' just doesn't support the interpretation of Dan. 12:1 as saying that Michael withdrew or left from his support of Israel. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
