I went looking to see how other Bible versions translate verse 6. Sure enough, several of them do support what you say, 'that those who have fallen away cannot be renewed to repentance WHILE they are crucifing Christ to themselves and are making a public spectacle of Him.' Notice in the following verses such phrases as "they are nailing", a form of the verb which indicates an action that is ongoing in the present. However, I still firmly believe, based on many, many clear verses of Scripture, that eternal life, by definition, is not temporary and that one cannot fall from grace and lose his salvation.
