Bible Note: Greetings Chris! Good observations! Might I add a few examples to your list? 1) Mt. 2:13 - They were to stay in Egypt until the Angel told them to leave. 2) Mt. 2:15 - They stayed until the death of Herod. 3) Mt. 5:26 - You will not get out until you have payed the last penny. 4) Mt. 10:11 - Stay at a house until you leave. 5) Mt. 13:30 - Let both grow together until the harvest. 6) Mt. 13:33 - "...The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough." 7) Mt. 17:9 - "...Don’t tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead." 8) Mt. 18:21 and 18:22 - "...Up to seven times?" 9) Mt. 18:30 - "But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt." 10) Mt. 18:34 - "In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed." 11) Mt. 23:39 - "For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’" 12) Mt. 24:12 - "For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again." 13) Mt. 24:34 - "I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened." 14) Mt. 24:39 - " and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man." 15) Mt. 26:29 - "I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’s kingdom.”" 16) Mt. 27:45 - "From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land." 17) Mt. 27:64 - "So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day..." These are just examples from Matthew, more could be included from other books. But, clearly these examples demonstrate that 'ews' indicates actions or conditions which will take place or last up to a certain point. When that point is reached, the action of condition ceases. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
