Bible Note: Brian is right on Romans: "For as through the one man's disobedience the many WERE MADE SINNERS, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous." --Romans 5:19 We do not just die physically due to Adam's sin. Adam being our representative head, we all inherit the guilt of his sin and ourselves are MADE sinners. That is the whole point of the contrast made between Adam and Christ in Romans 5. All of those who remain in Adam will die. Those who now have Christ as their representative and head before God will be made alive. To say that Romans 5 refers to physical death alone would not make any sense at all, since both those "in Adam" and those "in Christ" will die physically. I was not aware that Eastern Orthodoxy rejected the doctrine of original sin. Is that official church teaching or your own conclusion? --Joe! |
