Bible Note: Dalcent, Eze 18:2 What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge? 3 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel. 4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die. We die for our own sins, not our father's sins. We all sin. Rom 5:12 "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" We all die because we all sin. At the final judgment, those who stand on their works, and not of faith in Christ, will be judged according to their works: Rev 20:12 "And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works." These are judged according to their own works. Infant baptism can be compared to the Mormon practice of baptizing for the dead. In both instances, the one for whom it is being done has no consent or dissent, and therefore, is not even involved. 1Pe 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: How does an infant have a "good conscience toward God"? There is absolutely nothing in the Bible that even begins to suggest that we should baptize anyone who has not specifically chosen to be baptized. To do so is to go beyond the clear teaching of scripture. Love in Christ, Mark |
