Subject: not holding sins against them |
Bible Note: Hello packer I think I understand now. You are saying that the entire world is already forgiven by virtue of the cross, but they still need to believe to gain life. That presents a difficulty with verses like: Acts 2:38 (ESV) And Peter said to them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 10:43 (ESV) To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name." Acts 26:18 (ESV) to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.' These say we don't receive forgiveness until something happens on our part. How can we already have forgiveness, and yet be instructed to attain it? I've never seen or heard of this before, so I hope you don't mind me drawing these things out. Steve |
