Bible Note: Greetings Love Fountain! How about: 1) Ex. 20:24 - "”‘Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you. 25 If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it. 26 And do not go up to my altar on steps, lest your nakedness be exposed on it.’" 2) Ex. 29:36 - "Sacrifice a bull each day as a sin offering to make atonement. Purify the altar by making atonement for it, and anoint it to consecrate it." 3) Ex. 29:41 - "Sacrifice the other lamb at twilight with the same grain offering and its drink offering as in the morning—a pleasing aroma, an offering made to the LORD by fire." These are just the commands in Exodus, not counting all of the ones in Lev. and Numbers. What about the two verses you quoted? Jer. 7:22 doesn't say that God never commanded sacrifices, it says that "in the day He brought them out of Egypt" (prior to Mt. Sinai), He did not give instructions concerning sacrifices, but simply told them to obey Him. Ps. 40:6 is quoted in Heb. 10:5-12. There, the author makes it clear that the sacrifices were required by the Law, but that Christ is the only sacrifice which could please God. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
