841 | Visit other churches? | Rom 16:16 | CDBJ | 34093
Hi Charis, my wife and I have probably been in seven different churches in the past five years and I would say that the denominations were close to that amount. I always have a rule that I go by though; if those that regularly attend any particular church don't carry a Bible into the service with them I won't bother going in. If those in charge of the church aren't going to teach me from the Bible they are wasting their time in their service, not mine. This is what Paul commanded to be done and I figure I should be on the receiving end of his advice. 2 Tim. 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. This means Bible doctrine NOT church doctrine!! 2 Tim. 3:15-17 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. The way I see it every leader of a church better be able to back up what he says with the Bible and not just with his pet verses. Hay, this sound like I am on my soapbox instead of a simple answer; sorry about that! CDBJ |

842 | Is sex between singles a sin? | 1 Corinthians | CDBJ | 18466
If you want to use the Bible as the text to determine weather or not this sex is right or wrong and you say that the ten commandments doesn't spell it out clear enough for you, try Acts 15: 19-29 it spells it out pretty clear; there are a lot of people who have suffered with this, you are not alone. Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might.
843 | define speaking in tongues. | 1 Corinthians | CDBJ | 46121
Hi Bill, I just found your post and welcome to the forum. The situation that occurred in Acts 2;3,4 where the apostles received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and it was accompanied by (glossolalia) i.e. Gentile tongues by which the Jews were to warned and evangelized. Glossolalia continued for forty years signaling the coming distruction of Jerusalem. The Lord spoke through Isaiah to warn of what was to come. Isaiah 28:11 (KJV) For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. The Jews always looked for a sign and this was to be a sing to warn them of what was to come. 1 Cor. 14:22 (KJV) Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. God was telling the Jews that he was turning to the Gentiles and the Jews would know when this was happening by the sign of tongues; the Jews would as a result be very jealous that they have been cut off and the Gentiles grafted in to the olive tree. It was a disgrace to the Jews to think that God would turn to the Gentile dogs. I hope this helps a little, CDBJ |

845 | How "mature" in Christ are we today? | 1 Cor 3:1 | CDBJ | 110813
The love that is being spoken of in I Cor 13 isn’t just something that we just crank out, it is actually the by product of one who has the Spirit of God and is being controlled by Him. It is the overall fruit of the Spirit that will emanate from the one in Christ that is being controlled by Him at any one point in time. Galatians 5:22-26 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. Did you notice that the word fruit is in the singular, meaning one and that is Love; the rest of those things, that are mentioned, are the result of the love! Verses 25 and 26 exhibit that fact that the believer can actually live under two standards but only one is in control at any one time, it is an absolute, that is to say it can’t be 75/25, it has to be 100 percent of one or the other. Either filled with the Spirit or controlled by your old sin nature; it can’t be a little of each at any particular moment in a believers life. The reason for that is because all believers in Christ contain two natures, the old sin nature and the new nature, which is after Christ. At any one point in time we are choosing whom we want controlling us as believers and this is done by our wills. If we give way to the dictates of the OSN and sin, God is grieved or quenched and He is not controlling us, as it were, but our OSN is dictating the actions of our lives and we can’t demonstrate the AGAPE type love, which is the fruit of the Spirit. The only way to get the Holy Spirit back in control is the function of, 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The exercise of I John 1:9 puts God back in control until the next time that we give way to our old nature again but just remember the following. Hebrews 13:5 (B) I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. This condition, never leave, nor forsake, exist even when we are under the function of our OSN the problem is that we just aren't filled or controlled by the Holy Spirit. Anything that a believer does outside of the filling of the Spirit won’t count no matter how good it might appear to be on the surface because it is directly coming from the function of the OSN John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. The abideth mentioned in the past verse is the same as being filled with the Spirit and being under God’s control. The safest thing to do is for one to get their eyes off of people and focus on the person of Christ Jesus and that way they will never be deceived! 2 Cor. 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) This is the way I see it, CDBJ |

846 | Smoking | 1 Cor 3:17 | CDBJ | 176647
Hi Teemc and welcome to the forum, When I became a Christian, back in 1965, I smoked like steam engine; I mean three packs a day with a cigar in between and the best of pipes! I knew that I needed to quit smoking, even before I believed on the person of Christ, but I was so hooked on smoking that I couldn’t quit. While reading the Bible and feeding my gigantic hunger for God Word, I come across the following and it spelled it out so clear to me that I had to quit. 1 Cor. 6:12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. The words, “but I will not be brought under the power of any”, came at me screaming, saying, “anything that is habit forming has me under its power and it’s wrong.” I literally climbed the walls when I quit smoking, but every time I got the urge to smoke I would just pray that the Lord would help me until the urge went away. I was able to quit smoking “only” because I had a new source of help, The Lord Himself: one more reason to praise the Lord! That was one of the hardest things I think I have ever done in my life. The only good thing about “my smoking” was that I could never get lost in the woods; rescuers could always see the column of smoke and pull me out; I also was much warmer to be around in those day because I was always burning something, if people could stand it and get past the smell of old “tobacco breath yellow fingers”. I mean I smoked so much people could just look for me and find out which way the wind was blowing and at different altitudes. I figured, after I was a believer, if the Lord wanted me to smoke He probably would have built one of those tobacco rods sticking out of my face to start with: that part was my idea and it's not scriptural. That’s the reason I don’t smoke as a Christian. I hope you enjoy the forum, CDBJ |

847 | Can sinnners inherit the kingdom of God? | 1 Cor 6:9 | CDBJ | 56406
You ask about the position of believers in your question and the process of forgiveness. If we are confident of our faith in Jesus but are in sin(s), such as adultery, drunkenness or unforgivenness bitterness ...but we are sorry for these sins and ask for forgiveness... we have made progress, but they still occur in spite of our efforts...Are we still saved? The key for the believer for being forgiven is in 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Where in this verse dose it say that we are to be sorry and that we are to ask for forgiveness? God says that He will forgive us if we confess. The word confess comes to us from the Greek word, homologeo, it means to name as in a court room case. The reason that God is faithful is because Jesus died for the sins mentioned. Faithful means He will do it every time and not because we are (sorry), God isn’t impressed with what we do for sin, such things as being sorry, He is only impressed with what His Son did for sin. We can’t do anything for sin except confess it to God and that is all. There again Jesus gets all the credit we just have to believe that God takes care of it because He said He would. Theoretically if we are using our sorrow to be forgiven according to I John 1:9 we are not forgiven. We must do what the Bible teaches not what seems right to us. In the second place since Jesus died for all our sins they will only put the believer out of fellowship they won’t condemn the believer. The only thing that can condemn a person is refusing to believe in Jesus The Son of God and the work the he did for them on the cross. |

Greeting Noveta, I have been a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ since 1965 and the burden for my better half just about ate me up until she finally came to the Lord for her salvation. I can’t imagine what you are going through but you sure have my prayers!! I have found that letting ones spouse see the love of Christ in you works wonder when trying to share the gospel message. Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. 1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. Ephes. 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Have a great day, CDBJ |

Hi Lon, It sounds like you’re all over the place; like a runaway boat that’s out of control. You need some concrete answers in your life because you’re heading for the edge of Niagara Falls in a boat that doesn’t even have anybody on the helm. Are you aware that God has a perfect plan already in place for you personally and all you have to do is accept it? God even did all of the work. It sounds to me like you’re missing out on the best thing in life; I can say that because I’ve been there done that! 851 | Baptized before serving in choir | 1 Cor 12:13 | CDBJ | 183148
Greetings Azurelaw, I was once taught by a very wise pastor that there are two kinds of baptisms, “wet ones” and “dry one”. The dry ones are real and the wet ones are only ritual. John is speaking here. Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: That pastor also said that “everyone” will be baptized, either by one or the other, with the Holy Spirit or with fire and they will both be very real! Jesus is the one who will either deliver forever by salvation or destroy forever in fire. Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. John 5:22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: As humans we can’t actually see if a person is truly saved, only God knows that but we can visually determine if people have been faithful to the Lord, by “willfully” obeying His command to be baptized. Acts 16:15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, ( If ye have judged me to be faithful ) to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us. So, so, so, many have gone through what we call a wet baptism and yet most don’t even have a clue what the dry one is, that actually brings a person into Christ and seals them as believers in Jesus. Ephes. 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Have a great day, CDBJ |

852 | Can an unbaptised christian make Heaven | 1 Cor 12:13 | CDBJ | 193093
Greetings, Here is one you might think about. There is no such thing as a Christian that isn’t baptized! Why? What made them a Christian in the first place? Believing in, relying on, and trusting in Jesus, nothing more nothing less. What people don’t realize is that water baptism is only a ritual and causes divisions within Christian ranks. The baptism that unifies “all” believers in Jesus is that which God Himself performs and man can’t do anything to mess it up, i.e. the baptism of the Spirit. Ephes. 4:5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, Results: Jesus, faith in Jesus, the result is the unifying baptism by Jesus with the Holy Spirit. Ephes. 1:13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation-- having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, Combine that promise with the next two. 1 Cor. 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. Matthew 3:11 "As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Every one that has ever lived is going to be baptized with either the Holy Spirit or with the other option which isn’t very pleasant, fire. Believers and unbelievers alike will be baptized by one or the other. CDBJ |

853 | In Heaven will we know each other as now | 1 Cor 13:12 | CDBJ | 184789
Greetings boyceowenby and welcome to the forum. I realize that you have just picked out a name to go by on the forum but someplace in a hall of legal records you are registered or listed by the name of, what ever you are know by; lets say, Shelby Boyce or something like that, what ever it is your name might be. Now when the resurrection takes place and all of the true believers in Jesus are given new glorified, fantastic bodies that are designed to last forever, I, for a change, will be so good looking that nobody will know it’s actually me until they hear my name mentioned. 1 Cor. 13:12 (B) but then shall I know even as also I am known. That’s my take on this but don’t take it to the bank just yet because I still just know in part. Enjoy the forum, CDBJ |

854 | if i don't speak in tounges am I saved | 1 Cor 14:22 | CDBJ | 108599
Hello 8788, What makes you think you are saved? Is it just because it says so in Scripture, and you believe what God has said about His Son, Jesus? If your answer is yes, then you are saved and indwelt by the Spirit all at the same time; because God’s Word says so! It is not a matter of how you feel or the way you act, but what saith the Word of God. Some days when I wake up I feel about as spiritual as a carrot, but according to God’s Word I am still saved and still indwelt by the Holy Spirit! It’s not how I feel but what I know and the promises that God has given me! Ephes. 1:12-13 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, The Holy Spirit himself is the sealing, John 14:16-18 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. 855 | Meaning of in Christ | 1 Cor 15:18 | CDBJ | 159083
Greetings Bodie, The best way that I can describe, “being in Christ” would be that at particular point in time when one puts their total faith and trust in the Person of Jesus Christ, God the Father places those individuals “positionally” into the person of His Son; it's a work of God. 2 Cor. 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. God imputed our sins to Christ on the cross and if we will put all of our faith in Jesus, God’s Son, God will impute His righteousness to that believer. It’s that same thing as the fact that we were in Adam, “positionally” the moment that Adam sinned. As a result, at the point of birth, we are born physically alive and spiritually dead. 1 Cor. 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. Thus the need to be born again. John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. Man doesn’t have to believe what God did for him in the person of God’s Son, Jesus “but” that’s the only plan that God has to redeem mankind to himself. Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Believers will not be any closer to God in the future then they are at the point of salvation, “positionally”. The position of the believer in Christ can not be improved on; it’s a work of God. Have you come to the point yet in your spiritual walk where you know you have eternal life or are you still working on it? Have a great day, CDBJ |

856 | RAPTURE! FACT OR FICTION | 1 Cor 15:51 | CDBJ | 18519
Anyone who says that the rapture, as we call it, will not happen is not a realistic. The law of probability is so far against them that they are not even in the same ballpark. The fulfillment of prophecy would dictate that the chances of the rapture not occurring just as it described in Scripture is about thirty three trillion to one. The person who claims that it won't happen must be a real gambler, or he just plain doesn't know how to interpret Scripture, which is probably the case. In understanding the Bible for what it says there are different methods employed; the following are some examples that I found that might help. The study and use of methods and principles of biblical interpretation. (A) Face Value The practice of taking what is read (or heard) at "face value", in its most natural, normal, and customary sense. The objective of this method is to discover what the original author intended in his writing and make current application based on such discovery. Allowance is made for symbolism and figures of speech. (B) Allegorical The practice of placing a subjective/spiritual meaning to what is written (or said). This method seeks to apply a meaning that is foreign to the intent of the original author. (C) Principles of Five principles in a face value method of studying Biblical literature, especially prophetic are: (1) scripture is to be taken in its most natural, normal and customary sense, allowing for obvious symbolism and figures of speech, (2) proper understanding requires contextual consideration, (3) Scripture is to be harmonized with Scripture that touches on a common subject, (4) contradictions are unacceptable and are to be resolved by studying and harmonizing all applicable passages, and (5) recognize that many prophetic passages in Scripture have near/far implications and applications. Hermeneutic Hermeneutic is the method of interpretation that one uses to study something written or spoken; it is how one understands the Scriptures. To have validity, one's hermeneutic must be consistent and without contradiction and must never be governed by a theological predisposition or school of thought. In other words, if hermeneutic is controlled by theology then the Bible can be twisted to say whatever that theology would have it say. By employing a face value method of interpretation, the reader of Scripture attempts to discover the normal, natural, customary sense of the text as it was intended by the Author/author (God/human) at the time that it was written. When a consistent hermeneutic is applied, the meaning of Scripture can be understood. Then, as A.W. Tozer put it, "When you find the truth of Scripture, that truth always stands in judgment of you; you never stand in judgment of it." |

857 | follow up to 1 corinth 15 question | 1 Cor 15:52 | CDBJ | 216288
Greetings, I believe it is a righteous thing with God that His believers endure the persecution that will be poured out by the adversary in the lasts days. Those persecuting the saints will be the target for God’s reaction towards them. 2 Thes. 1:4-6 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: 5Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: 6Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; I think the Lord will supply the grace that it will take to endure this time of vengeance and that many will not be ready for that which is coming. A good heading for the following verses would be the persecution of God’s elect in the final days! Luke 17:28-37 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; 29But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. 30Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. 31In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. 32Remember Lot's wife. 33Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it. 34I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. 35Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 36Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 37And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together. Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together. This is a Hebraism that tells us that where justice is needed God will surely measure it out, even though it will seem long in coming to the little one of God that are going through it as the following parable explains. Luke 18:1-8 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; 2Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: 3And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. 4And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; 5Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. 6And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. 7And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? 8I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? God will avenge those going through this persecution even though it seems like He won’t according to their timing. Rev. 6:9-17 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: 10And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? 11And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled. 12And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 14And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? The faith of many will be shattered during the final days of the church because they have been deluded into thinking that they will not have to endure such persecution! 2 Thes. 1:10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. Have a great day, CDBJ |

858 | I won"t be saved if I don't tithe | 2 Corinthians | CDBJ | 63324
Since you are of the opinion that (If your wages are cut and you can't make ends meet does that mean I am cheating God and I wont' be saved?) Show me if you will please, using the Bible, that you can be saved by not cheating God? If this were the case Jesus came to earth and died on your behalf for nothing. All one would have had to do is pay for their salvation lets say 11 percent, that ought to really cinch it and leave one with some extra money on credit just for safety sake. I hope you realize the folly in your question? I am just trying to point you in the right direction. Do yourself a real favor and read the book of John and ask the Lord to show you the truth that it holds. If at that time you don’t understand what it is saying about salvation read it again. |

859 | What happens immediatly after you die? | 2 Corinthians | CDBJ | 180285
Greetings ddethdan and welcome to the forum, I must say, you certainly have a tidal wave of questions but I will answer your first question. Many might be looking for feed back from you before all of those questions are answered. Immediately after “I” die, that is “my” physical body I’m going to be at home looking right at the Lord! 2 Cor. 5:8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. The words, with the Lord, in the original language of the Koine Greek are in the accusative case, “PROS TON KURION”; it literally means face to face with the Lord. I hope you enjoy the forum, CDBJ |

860 | Current Location of Dead Christians | 2 Cor 5:10 | CDBJ | 230519
2 Cor. 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. The word “with” the Lord, in the Koine Greek, is (PROS) in the accusative case and would read better if the English said “face to face” with the Lord. We will have some sort of an interim body but we don’t know much about it from Scripture. EXAMPLE, Rev. 6:9-10 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: 10And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? These haven’t received a glorified body as of yet, i.e. no rapture yet, and as a result the wrath of God hasn’t happened yet but they are sure anxious for the Lord to avenge them for what is taking place on the Earth that got them killed. The problem is likely the result of the same kind of treatment as those received in, Rev. 12:9-12 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. 10And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. 12Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. CDBJ |
