Dear John Reformed, You must get confused with Reformer Joe quite often! Anyhoo, yes, my point is to quash legalism(Pharisaism, Dogmaticism, etc.) wherever it rears its ugly head. We are to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strngth(Mark 12:30). And if you want to bang a drum, or gong, or strum a guitar to praise His Holy Name, then do it!!!! Unless you believe that poor King David(although forgiven for the whole Bathsheba incident) wound up in the Lowest Depths because he SANG for God. To turn the argument(from silence) around, nowhere does it FORBID us from playing instruments. hmmm Continue praising Him, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

Dear fellow believers, According to some on this forum, it will be necessary to get rid of the following, since they are not found anywhere in Scripture: Sunday School Vacation Bible School Church breakfasts/suppers Rummage sales Wednesday evening services Nurseries Senior adult pastors Youth pastors College and Career pastors Marriage counselors Discipleship classes Altar calls Testimonies Prayerwalking Bibles(Hey, they aren't mentioned anywhere!!) Pews Sermon notes Church bulletins Church buses Crosses/crucifices in church Easter service/Passion plays Christmas service And hey, even if theses things are mentioned, and even if someone gives us proof, we'll just bury our head in the sand and deny, deny, deny. May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

Dear Grace and Truth, I guess harps aren't musical instruments. Ooops, my bad. Concerning worship: Rom 14:17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Rom 14:18 For he who in this way serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men.(NASB) Rom 14:22 The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves.(NASB) May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

65 | Heb.13:15 This verse addresses our prais | Eph 5:19 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52197
Dear Hank, I thank you for the compliments, but I must give the praise to God, who graciously grants me the wisdom.(James 1:5) He must have something for me to do, because I--honestly--had not even picked up a Bible since I was a child, but I ask God for wisdom when I read, and He makes it clear for me to understand. In agreement with you and CS Lewis, the things we do CAN do more to drive people FROM Christ, than our words can do to bring them TO Christ. That's what happens when people add their OPINIONS to what they THINK the Word should say. It is so good to have a fellow Southern Baptist(though we are first fellow Christians) here. We of the SBC get a bad rap for being starched and sullen(can you say "Bible-thumper?), but those criticisms come from people who go to more liberal churches, but don't want people to think they're "intolerant" or "mean", and thus look for a church that doesn't denounce certain sins of the World(abortion, homosexuality). As far as the subject of this thread, when Paul tells us to sing psalms in worship, the word "psalms" means playing a musical instrument. Some people just can't understand that. And to quote Revelations again, the angels and elders in heaven play harps and sing "a new song" in heaven itself. Literally. And yes, we will play music Up Yonder. And we'll understand it better by and by...:) PS: Thanks for the stars..:) May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

66 | Sacrificing his daughter? | Judges | 2ndSamuel22 | 52189
Dear Cyclist, The passage you are looking for is in the Book of the Judges, chapter 11. It is the story of Jephthah(not to be confused with Japheth, son of Noah). Jephthah promised God that if He delivered the children of Ammon into his hand, he would offer the first living thing that greeted him when he got home. It just so happened that it was his daughter who came out to greet him. May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

Greetings Hank!! I thank you for your well-wishes for my upcoming trip. Only 36 more days! Can you tell I'm excited?..:) I must say, that in the short time I've been coming to this forum, I have felt my(feeble human) wisdom grow a little at a time. My thanks to you, Morant61, Searcher, mommapbs, and others for sharing your wisdom, that I may glean from it. And to Raven and Grace and Truth for providing a much-needed foil. We can't agree with everybody, right?..:) May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

68 | Heb.13:15 This verse addresses our prais | Eph 5:19 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52101
Dear Grace and Truth, So you go back to the old "arguing from silence" approach? Because it doesn't say it in a CERTAIN VERSE you pick out, we shouldn't do it, right? You seem more intent on the 'logos' word, rather than the 'rhema' word. I have shown you time and again verses IN THE BIBLE, which show God's APPROVAL for playing instruments. Yet, on a consistent basis, you avoid answering the verses I give you. I have even posted the Strong's definitions. Yet all we get from you is your opinion on certain passages, with nothing to back it up!! Why? What are you afraid of? Also, Paul was not the only apostle to have a Book included in the Bible, and yet he seems to be the only one you quote. For your infromation, James, Peter(twice), John(FIVE--COUNT 'EM--FIVE TIMES) and others have had epistles, Gospels, and prophetic books included in the Holy Word of God. Why do you ignore them? I do not mean to sound bitter, but it gets very frustrating when you make valid arguments to someone, and they completely ignore them without answer, or answer them out of context. Would you please give a valid response to the passages I quoted. Thank you. PS: Reread the definition of "psalms" I gave you, maybe that will clear things up. May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

69 | So I ask you again, where do you get you | Eph 5:19 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52060
Dear Grace and Truth, My point is this: If God does not want any to worship Him using musical instruments, then why are the heavenly hosts playing them? If God doesn't like it, would He allow it in His Kingdom? And since we are to worship and do His will on Earth as it is in Heaven, then how can you disagree with playing instruments to sing His praises here on Earth? Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with PSALMS and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. From Strong's-- 5567 psallo (psal'-lo) 2b) to play on a stringed instrument, to play, the harp, etc. James 5:13--Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing PSALMS. 5568 psalmos (psal-mos') 1) a striking, twanging 1a) of a striking the chords of a musical instrument 1b) of a pious song, a psalm By the way, I'm not Tim..:) He's the veteran here, I'm the rookie. may the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd samuel 22 |

70 | Is denominatalism a sin? | NT general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52051
At the risk of sounding like I condone denominationalism, divisions were around even before Paul. They existed even in the days Jesus bodily walked the Earth: Mark 9:38 John said to Him, "Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us." Mark 9:39 But Jesus said, "Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me. Mark 9:40 "For he who is not against us is for us. Mark 9:41 "For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because of your name as followers of Christ, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward..."(NASB) In my humble opinion, the key verse is 9:40--"For he who is not against us is for us." We are human. we will not always agree with each other. Jesus understood this, and (gently)rebuked John from forbidding those who did not follow the Apostles. 71 | Church choirs? | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52049
Dear Raven, James 5:13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him SING PSALMS.(KJV) Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with PSALMS AND HYMNS AND SPIRITUAL SONGS, SINGING with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Col 3:17 WHATEVER you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.(NASB) 1 Cor 14:15 What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also. Raven, you mentioned Malachi 3:6, how God never changes. This is true. And there may not be any SPECIFIC mention of choirs, all throughout Scripture we read about singing to the LORD. Look at the titles of so many of the Psalms. They are addressed "To the chief musician..." In Revelations, the angels and the 24 elders come before God with songs and harps. We are to love our God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Singing, if it comes from the heart, is pleasing to God, whether one person or an entire choir. Greetings Grace and Truth!! I hate to disagree with you again, but.... 1 Tim 2:8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, LIFTING UP HOLY HANDS, without wrath and dissension.(NASB) Rev 5:8 When He had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one holding a HARP and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. (NASB) Rev 14:2 And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers HARPING WITH THEIR HARPS:(KJV) The angels in Revelations were playing their harps, pleasing God with their music. In the presence of God Himself. May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

73 | Do we as men dictate the terms of Salv? | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51860
Greetings Grace and Truth!! Well, I see that neither one of us is going to persuade the other to change their position. You say baptism saves, I say baptism is the result of saving faith. So, like Tim Moran, I will also end my side of this thread. Let me just say in closing, though, that we will see each other in the Kingdom of Heaven. Just so you know, yes, I have been baptized..:) May the grace of our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

74 | Do we as men dictate the terms of Salv? | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51814
Greetings Grace and Truth!! Let me ask you these questions: Q: What did Jesus cry out before He said,"Father into Thy hand I commend my spirit"(Luke 23:46, KJV)? A: "It is FINISHED"(John 19:30, KJV) "It is finished" comes from the Greek "teleo" From Strong's-- 5055 teleo [tel-eh'-o] 1) to bring to a close, to finish, to end 1a) passed, finished 2) to perform, execute, complete, fulfil, (so that the thing done corresponds to what has been said, the order, command etc.) 2a) with special reference to the subject matter, to carry out the contents of a command 2b) with reference also to the form, to do just as commanded, and generally involving the notion of time, TO PERFORM THE LAST ACT WHICH COMPLETES A PROCESS, TO ACCOMPLISH, FULFILL 3) to pay 3a) of tribute [emhases mine] ---- "It is finished" John 19:30 Q: What was completed, fulfilled, finished? A: Our salvation Q: What has God ever started that WE can complete? A: Nothing!! Q: Can aything we do ever make us righteous in God's eyes? A: NO Q: Does even the keeping of God's commands make us righteous in His eyes? A: NO Q: If someone repents, and accepts Jesus as his Saviour on their deathbed, without the chance to be baptized, are they saved? A: Yes(Matt 20:16 "So the last shall be first, and the first last." (NASB)) Q: Does God make different rules for salvation for different people? A: No. Q: Should we be baptized as the outward sign of our inward faith? A: Yes My friend, I do not mean to sound as if I think baptism is unimportant. It is a commandment from God, and we should seek to fulfill His commandments. But it is not the keeping of His commandments that gets us into heaven(Galatians 3:3--...Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?). For if we believe that keeping ONE of His commandments brings us salvation, then we must believe in(and strive for) keeping them all. Our salvation comes only by the shed blood of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nds Samuel 22 |

76 | what is the breastplate of righteouness | Ephesians | 2ndSamuel22 | 51760
Greetings gospelcom!! In order to explain what is meant by the "whole armour of God", I'll take you back a couple of verses, to vv11-13. The Apostle Paul is telling us that when we become Christians, then the wars we wage are not of flesh, but against "principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."(KJV) So, we must cover ourselves with Christ, and all of His weapons: v 14 --The girdle of truth. In Paul's day, what men wore into battle was much different than today. They wore flowing garments, which gave their legs mobility. Now, these garments needed to be cinched up at the waist, so they wouldn't trip on the fabric. In this same vein, God's truth is what binds everything together, and allows us to fight the enemy more effectively. --The breastplate of righteousness. The breastplate covers the heart. And in Matthew 15:18-19, Jesus says, "But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders." So we must cover our hearts with Christ's righteousness, that we would not give into those things. v.15 --cover your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Often, the ground a battle was fought on would have shard of glass or metal buried in it, so if you didn't have the right footwear on, you would cut your feet, and be rendered ineffective for battle. The same way Satan lays little traps for us to trip on, so we must be preapred by always walking by faith(II Corinthians 5:7), on the promise of the Gospel. v.16 --The shield of faith. Shields back then were made of thick leather, and before the battle, they would be soaked in water, so when the enemy fired flaming arrows(darts) at them, the water in the shields would extinguish the flame. When Satan attacks, and fires at us with old thoughts, or trying to convict us of old sins, our faith in Christ will allow us to put out those darts, knowing that we have already been forgiven. v.17 --The helmet of salvation. Let our minds be covered by the knowledge that we have eternal life if we are truly saved, and let those thoughts guide our way. --The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Notice, this is the only offensive weapon Paul mentions. Other similar verses: Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Rev 19:15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron;... (NASB) Notice also in Matthew chapter 4, when Satan tries to tempt Jesus, how does He respond? With Scripture. It is one of our greatest weapons against the enemy. May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Saumel 22 |

77 | Was it complete? | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51477
greetings, mommapbs!! I just wanted to throw a few verse out there, to show that it is repentance, Grace, and faith that save, not water: Luke 7:50 And He said to the woman, Thy FAITH hath saved thee; go in peace.(KJV) Luke 18:42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy FAITH hath saved thee. 43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.(KJV)[note: no mention of baptism] Acts 15:11 But we believe that through the GRACE of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved.(KJV) Rom 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by HIS BLOOD, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. (NASB) Eph 2:4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, Eph 2:5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by GRACE you have been saved)(NASB) Titus 3:4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, Titus 3:5 He saved us, NOT ON THE BASIS OF THINGS WHICH WE HAVE DONE IN RIGHTEOUSNESS, but according to His MERCY, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, (NASB) I could go on, but I think that pretty much sums it up. May the Grace of our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

78 | why can't a christian dink or dance | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51475
Greetings ENS!! First off, I would like to commend you for your strength in resisting your peers' pressures on you to do something you do not feel comfortable doing. To add to the excellent posit offered by SSprln, I would offer the following: 1 Pet 2:13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, 1 Pet 2:14 or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right In other words, God(through the Apostle Peter) is commanding us to obey the laws of the land.(I am assuming that you are in high school? If not, then I apologize) And in all 50 states, you must be 21 to drink alcohol(although there are some people well over 21 who should not drink at all. But I digress) So, you have Scripture on your side there. As far as dancing itself, no there is no biblical prohibiton as long as it is done in a dignified manner. However, when it is done in a lewd and lascivious manner, then it does become disgraceful. May the Grace of our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |
