I don't mean to stir up a hornet's nest, but what does anybody think of the NIV? I've never read it(prefering the KJV, but am not "KJV ONLY") but have heard some negative comments on it, even read some of the many differences between it and other translations. Any comments?

125 | If Jesus became sin why is he in Heaven? | NT general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 45960
Hey DD. That is a very interesting question you pose. When they laid the cross down, and nailed Jesus to it, He became the "Lamb with no blemish",and all the sins of mankind were placed upon Him. When they raised Him up, He became the "priest forever in the order of Mechizedec"(Heb 7:17), lifting them up to God. After He died the risen Christ became the Firstborn of the resurrected(Col. 1:18--And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.) Another verse to refer to would be Hebrews 2:9--But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. So if we bear our own sins, without giving them to Jesus to take to the Father, then they will remain with us, unforgiven. But, if we take our self, allow it to be crucified with Christ(Gal 2:20), become a new creation through His righteousness(2 Cor 5:17), then His blood cleanses our soul(1 Tim 2:5), so we may enter His holy presence. 126 | Why do today's Jews reject Jesus? | OT general | 2ndSamuel22 | 45865
Amber, I hope I can shed some light on this subject. 1. The most obvious refutation of the erroneous argument that Jesus is not God is Psalm 110:1-4 1 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. 2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. 3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth. 4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. This of course defines the holiness of Jesus. David himself states quite clearly that Jesus has been at the right hand of God, and that God would send Him to be His high priest. 2. As far as the humanness of Jesus, one could quote Isaiah ch.11. Matthew Henry wrote an excellent commentary on this chapter--http://www.blueletterbible.org/tmp_dir/comm_read/1019870856.html--about how Jesus would spring from the root of Jesse(note- in Mr. Henry's commentary, when he refers to "meanness", it refers to modesty, not wickedness.), or from an earthly lineage. I hope I've helped to shed some light on this subject, and maybe someone else can illuminate even further. He will 2nd Samuel 22:26-28 |

129 | Cain and Seth's wives descended from who | Genesis | 2ndSamuel22 | 45306
Dear Sctt, Not to argue a point, but, when I've read that when Abram told Pharaoh that Sarai was his "sister"(even though she was his wife), he was not exactly lying. I have read that Sarai was actually his half-sister. And God used Abram(Abraham) as the progenitor of His people. Again, not arguing. |

130 | Help. Someone's testamony has me upset | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 45302
Chynna, Do not let your faith be shaken. You say that you "started questioning whether I wanted God to be behind the things that happened and therefore just believed it to be so." Trust me, God IS behind every good thing you do, and that happens to you(James 1:17). Also, never forget to thank Him for all the blessings you DON'T see, like the times He keeps you from danger that you didn't know was there. I pray that you will continue to always love and trust our Heavenly Father, in whose hand is found eternal rest(Psalm 23:2). |

131 | Who are these? | Rev 13:6 | 2ndSamuel22 | 45297
Mommapbs, I believe Antichrist will blaspheme the physical tabernacle, as well as heven itself. One prediction says that he will enter the Holy of Holies in the rebuilt Solomon's temple, thus blaspheming it. When you refer to my screen name, do you mean my internet screen name? If so, it refers to the four heavenly beasts who "never rest, crying 'Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come.'" So many people focus on the judgment aspect of Revelations, when it paints such a beautiful picture of heaven. God Bless |

132 | Who are these? | Rev 13:6 | 2ndSamuel22 | 44973
My interpretation(For what it's worth).. I would say "those who dwell in heaven" are the raptured saints. Almost every translation says Antichrist will blaspheme God, His name, His temple, AND those who dwell in heaven(note the implication made when the NASB says "THAT IS, those who dwell in heaven"). As far as Antichrist making war with "the saints", I would say these are the ones who are left behind after the rapture but after which give their lives to Christ(tribulation saints). Rev 13:8 makes the distinction that those who worship Antichrist will be those whose names "are not written in the book of life..." Well, that's my take on it. I hope I helped. |

133 | 2 Kings 16 in our worship practices? | 2 Kin 16:11 | 2ndSamuel22 | 44971
How familiar does this sound: 2Kings16:7 So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, "I am your servant and your son; come up and deliver me from the hand of the king of Aram and from the hand of the king of Israel, who are rising up against me." 16:8 Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of the LORD and in the treasuries of the king's house, and sent a present to the king of Assyria.(NASB) How many times today do we compromise our biblical principles so we don't sound "mean" or "intolerant". And how often do we affiliate ourselves with the unholy just so we can make our point, no matter how trivial it is? |

134 | Mark 3:5 verus Matthew 5:22 | Mark 3:5 | 2ndSamuel22 | 43141
"After looking around at them with anger..." Compare this with Matt 5:22, "But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court;..." Doesn't this then make Jesus a sinner? Why does Matt 5:22(NASB) leave out the phrase, "[angry] WITHOUT CAUSE"?(see KJV)
