81 | interracial origins and marriage/child | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51363
Greetings consumedbythecall!! God does command the children of Israel not to marry(or give their children in marraige to) groups like the Canaanites, Amalekites, etc. BUT that is only because they worshipped other gods. If any of these people came to worship the LORD God of Abraham, then they could marry them. Take Boaz(a Jew) for example. He married a Moabitess(Ruth), who had accepted the LORD as God. She begat Obed, who begat Jesse, who begat David. Also, we learn in Numbers 12:1 that Moses himself had married an AEthiopian woman. ------------------------------------ Furthermore, consider this: Matt 19:17c but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments." Matt 19:18b Then he said to Him, "Which ones?" Matt 19:19b YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."(NASB) [edited for space] Now, compare this passage with some verses from 1 John-- 1 John 2:4 The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and DOES NOT KEEP His commandments, is a LIAR, and the truth is NOT in him;...(NASB)[emphases mine] ------------------------------------ 1 John 2:9 The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now. 1 John 2:10 The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 1 John 2:11 But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes. (NASB) We are commanded in Matthew 19(and Leviticus 19) to love our meighbor. So, according to I John 2, if we do not love our neighbor, we have not kept His commandments, and the truth is not in us. In my opinion(and I dare say the opinion of all in this forum), anyone who perverts Scripture to try to justify bigotry and hatred deserves whatever punishment the Judge has waiting for him. May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

83 | books on how they lived and believed? | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51359
Greetings Browser!! There are many, many books on the Apostles and their contemporaries. I do not know the exact titles, but one idea would be to go to Amazon.com or bn.com(Barnes and Noble's website) and type in the subject you are looking for. To make it easier, you may want to add the word "apostle" (if indeed they are one). That way, you don't come back with 8 billion titles/authors with the name Paul or Peter..:) May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

84 | THREE WAYS TO BE SAVED? | John 1:12 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51292
Greetings Kimmy!! For the complete plan of salvation from God's own Word, read Acts 16:29-31--- Acts 16:29 And he called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas, Acts 16:30 and after he brought them out, he said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" Acts 16:31 They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household." If you want to say three things are necessary, then rememer ABC: Admit you are a sinner Believe Jesus died for you Confess His name Slavation is a gift from God. When have you ever had to give someone something in order to receive a gift? If you have, then it is not a gift. And if you have to go through a bunch of rituals in order to receive the gift of salvation, then it is not a gift, and God is a liar(Which we all know He is not, Titus 1:2). 85 | Baptism: Has Enough Not Been Said? | Mark 16:16 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51249
I hear ya Hank!! I do agree, this is one thread that has gone further than I believe anyone expected. And I feel kinda guilty, because it all started with a simple question I asked Grace and Truth about baptism, and it grew to include almost every Christian in the western hemisphere..:) On the other hand, when someone is being deceived concerning the simplicity that is Christ Jesus(II Corinthians 11:3), we do owe it to them to point out where they have been misled. After all, it took me a looong time to understand that salvation can not be lost, having grown up never hearing that. But, one fine day, we will all be standing in God's Glory, and wonder why we made such a fuss over the whole issue, the way He's wondering the same thing right now. May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 PS: I enjoyed what you said about the thief getting a "baptizing break". |

86 | Is salvation that difficult? | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51142
Greetings justmee!! To answer your question, I would have to of course agree with billk. gaining salvation is EASY!!! Read II Corinthians 11:3. It is perservering, leaving the world system behind, and trusting in God instead of ourselves that is the hard part. I once read a tract that said salvation is as easy as ABC: Admit we are sinners Believe Jesus died for our sins Confess His name I agree with you justme. We(people) do make it sound more difficult than it really is!!! May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

87 | What year did Jesus die? | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51139
Greetings songbird!! Well, the best way to answer your question is this: We cannot be sure in this day what His exact dates of birth and death are, because of the many, many changes to the calender over the centuries. The closest I have heard is that He was born(bodily) in about 4 A.D. So assuming he lived(bodily) for about 33 years, I would say he died on the cross in about 37 A.D. Greetings srbaegon! And here's another point to ponder: When blood is shed, you have remission for sins(Hebrews 9:22). The shedding of Jesus' Blood began even before He got to Golgatha. So I truly believe the New Covenant had already begun. The Lamb had been sacrificed, the High Priest risen up. But that's a whole other story!! May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

89 | "need" for baptiam | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51106
Greetings Grace and Truth! Since Acts 22:16 is part of Paul's retelling of his conversion, let us take a look at the first narration of it in chapter 9: Acts 9:18 And immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he regained his sight, and he got up and was baptized;(NASB) I'm not sure if there is such a term as a "living parable", but if there is, this passage is one. Notice, if you will, that the scales fell from Saul's(Paul's) eyes, BEFORE he was baptized. The meaning: we, in our own flesh, in our own works, are blind as Bartameus. But, when we receive Jesus, and believe in His life, death, and resurrection, we begin to see how to live for Him, and to let Him live through us. That is when we receive salvation. It is after this transformation that we need to make a public confession of faith, and symbolically wash our flesh with water, as Jesus' Blood has cleansed our soul. Just a couple more passages for you to ponder: Acts 16:29 And he called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas, Acts 16:30 and after he brought them out, he said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" Acts 16:31 They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household." --------------------------- Rom 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; Rom 10:10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. ----------------------------------- Matt 3:11 "As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. --------------------------------------- Acts 1:5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." Acts 1:8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." It is Christ who performs the true baptism, with the Holy Spirit(Holy Ghost) and fire. I truly do hope you will not merely read these passages without meditating on them, that you will allow yourself to trust in the fact that it is Jesus' shed Blood that is the perfect and only means necessary to purge us of our unrighteousness. May the Grace of Our Lord be with you! 2nd Samuel 22 |

Greetings Grace and Truth! From Strong's Concordance-- Faith[4102]; pis'-tis: PERSUASION, i.e. CREDENCE; CONVICTION(of RELIGIOUS truth, or the truthfulness of God or a religious teacher), espec. RELIANCE upon Christ for salvation; CONSTANCY in such profession; by extension the system of religious(Gospel) TRUTH itself:-assurance, belief, believe, faith, fidelity. I capialized the words which are normally shown in italics in the lexicon. I would like to point out the crux of the passage you mention in I Peter 3-- " 21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:"(KJV) Now, in verse 21, take out the part in parentheses and what do you have? "21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us by the RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST."[emphasis mine]. And the parenthetical section--"(not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,)". It is not the washing of our bodies that brings salvation, but the cleansing of our souls by the baptism from God's Holy Spirit and the shed blood of Jesus Christ our Lord. I suppose we ought to simply agree to disagree on this subject. We shall see each other again in God's heavenly kingdom, and this discussion will not matter one wit. May the Grace of our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

Greetings, fellow believers!! Let me begin by quoting from the book of Romans, a passage that speaks to this dicussion. The fact that everyone here,if we believe in truth, and live in Christ's righteousness, then we please God: Rom 14:17 for the kingdom of God is...righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Rom 14:18 For he who in this way serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- To answer one of your concerns, Grace and Truth, of course we must receive the Good News of the resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and believe it to be true(Rom 10:9). As far as baptism, I would like to share with you the thoughts of Matthew Henry, concerning the baptism of John the Baptist: 1...A penitent confession of sin is required in order to peace and pardon; and those only are ready to receive Jesus Christ as their Righteousness, who are brought with sorrow and shame to their own guilt, 1 Jn. 1:9. 2. The benefits of the kingdom of heaven, now at hand, were thereupon sealed[read:marked] to them by baptism. He washed them with water, in token of this—that from all their iniquities God would cleanse them. John's baptism was of water, a "token" of the true washing of our souls, by the precious blood of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Christ's baptism was of His blood, which He poured out on the cross. This is the true baptism, for, as it is written in Hebrews 9:22,"without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness."(NASB) I would have to respectfully ask you another question: Do you mean to say that water is as important in our spiritual cleansing as Jesus' shed blood? I do not believe so. Let us examine Ephesians 2:8-- "For by GRACE are ye SAVED through FAITH; and that NOT of YOURSELVES: it is the GIFT of God:"(KJV) Grace--Vine's says,"on the part of the bestower, the friendly disposition from which the kindly act proceeds, graciousness, loving-kindness, goodwill generally, e.g., Acts 7:10; especially with reference to the Divine favor or "grace," e.g." Saved--From the Greek "sozo"[sode'-zo], meaning to 'save', or to 'deliver' or 'protect'. Faith--Strong's defines it as "a strong and welcome conviction or belief that Jesus is the Messiah, through whom we obtain eternal salvation in the kingdom of God." Gift--"a present; spec. and offering" In other words, by God's lovingkindness we are delivered and protected through our conviction(belief) that Jesus died for our sins, not by anything we did, but it is the sacrifice of God via Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:9--"Not of works, lest any man should boast." I do not wish to sound argumentative, and if I do, I apologize. My goal is to avoid what is warned about in II Cor.11:3--"...your minds should be corrupted from the SIMPLICITY that is in Christ."(KJV) May the Grace of Our Lord be with you. 2nd Samuel 22 |

Thank you, srbaegon!! And Greetings, Grace and Truth! You wrote: "The bible doesn't say weather or not he[the thief] was baptized!" But, by your own belief, you MUST ASSUME he was baptized, in order for him to be in Paradise with Jesus. That being said, you are assuming something which is not written(or even implied) in Scripture. And to do that, you must add to the Perfect Word of God. And are we allowed to add to the Word of God? May the Grace of our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

Greetings Joe!! The more I read Raven's posts, the more the Church of Christ sounds like the Catholic system. Salvation through works. Here is an interesting passage to ponder: Gal 2:3 But not even Titus, who was with me, though he was a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised. Gal 2:4 But it was because of the false brethren secretly brought in, who had sneaked in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, in order to bring us into bondage.(NASB) 1) The Apostle Paul wrote time and again about the uselessness of circumcision(read:works) of the flesh, and the peace and secruity found in circumcision of the heart. 2) What did Jesus denounce the Pharisees for? It was the fact that they had, as it were, reduced faith to "washing the outside of the cup". In other words, making heaven out to be something you had to earn with your...works. Read in the Sermon on the Mount, when Jesus teaches about adultery and murder. It's not necissarily what we DO, but where our heart is. So it is with our salvation. If what we DID condemned us, we'd have to be on our knees constantly, seeing as how even an impure thought is sin. Raven, I pray that you will accept the peace that the love of Jesus in one's heart brings. Otherwise, you are but a slave to your own works, in bondage to your own flesh. We are not slaves, but we are free. Amen!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

Greetings, fellow believers!! Well, it seems as though the faith-works debate is as lively as ever! I once believed in faith plus works, but through studying and meditating on the Word, prayer, and asking God for wisdom(James 1:5), I have come to realize that it IS NOT THE THINGS I DO which determine my salvation, but the Grace of God through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Look at it this way: Considering the fact that even an idle thought(of lust, misplaced anger, etc) is seen by God as a sin, whenever the rapture came, nobody would get caught up in the air. Here are a few scripture-related thoughts: 1 Cor 3:14 If any man's work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. 1 Cor 3:15 If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss; BUT HE HIMSELF WILL BE SAVED, yet so as through fire.(NASB) Taking the verses preceding this passage into account, if we build on our faith with obedience, we will be called closer to God in heaven than those who believe in Christ, but who fall time and again. However, those who build with gold and silver, and those who build with wood hay and stubble will all see heaven, since our righteousness comes from Christ. ----------------------------------- Hebrews 10:14--"For by ONE offering he hath perfected FOREVER them that are sanctified."(KJV) Romans 3:24--"being justified as a GIFT by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;" ----------------------------------------- Romans 8:1--"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."(KJV) [Note the comma after "Jesus".] Matthew Henry has this to say on this verse: Believers may be chastened of the Lord, but will NOT[emphasis mine] be condemned with the world. By their union with Christ through faith, they are thus secured." -------------------------------- Romans 10:4--"For Christ is the END OF THE LAW for righteousness to every one that believeth." Philippians 3:3--"for we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh,"(NASB) There is no way that we are truly good enough in the things that we do to deserves entrance into the Kingdom of God. If we were, He would not have sent Jesus. ----------------------------------- II Timothy 1:9--"Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, NOT ACCORDING TO OUR WORKS, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,"(KJV) Colossians 2:10--"And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:"(KJV) ----------------------------------------- Question: How many of your sins did Jesus die for? 1) some 2) only the ones you have already commited 3) ALL ------------------------------ Of course, let us not forget that the Apostle Paul did write in Galatians 5:13,"For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another." The free gift of grace should not be used as an excuse to sin, but as a means to live a life of peace, knowing where our strength and surety are. I do want to ask you one thing, Overseer: you say that one needs to be water-baptized to have salvation. When was the thief on the cross baptized? God's blessings to all 2nd Samuel 22 |

96 | Will God ever remember our sins even aft | Is 43:25 | 2ndSamuel22 | 49931
Greetings, Native!! Psalm 103:7-13-- Ps 103:8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. Ps 103:9 He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. Ps 103:10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. Ps 103:11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. Ps 103:12 AS FAR AS THE EAST IS FROM THE WEST, SO FAR HAS HE REMOVED OUR TRANSGRESSIONS FROM US. Ps 103:13 Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. Notice the emphasis on verse 12. Here's something I read that sheds further light on this verse: If you go far enough north, you will eventually start going south. BUT--if you start going west, you will ALWAYS be going west. This same rule applies if you start going east-you will ALWAYS go east. That is how far east is from west. "East is east and west is west, and never the twain shall meet"--Rudyard Kipling May the Peace of God abound in you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

Greetings, songbird!! Yes, the Clopas in John(or, Cleophas in the KJV) is indeed the same as Cleopas in Luke 24. Why the different spellings, I do not know. As far as Simon, I believe that is also Peter. It may, however, be another of the apostles, Simon the Zealot. Peace be with you always!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

100 | Why not Brothers? | 1 Cor 11:3 | 2ndSamuel22 | 49841
I Timothy 3:16--"And without controversy great is the MYSTERY[emphasis mine] of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."(KJV) I Corinthians 1:24--"but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God."(NASB) John 1:1--"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."(NASB) Isaiah 9:6--"For a CHILD will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, MIGHTY GOD, ETERNAL FATHER, Prince of Peace."[all emphases mine] These verses demonstrate quite clearly the fact that not only is Jesus the Son of God, but that He also IS God. Let's use the argument that we must take this on faith. Now, faith IS the EVIDENCE of things unseen(Hebrews 11:1), therefore we can rightly conclude that since we DO have faith in the Bible being the Holy and Inspired Word of God, and that from Scripture we learn of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit(I John 4:8), then our faith in the Word is evidence that the three ARE one, and the one ARE three. As far as Jesus being less(?) than the Father, I refer you to Hebrews 2:7--"Thou madest him a little lower than the angels;..."(KJV). And using the formula(if A is less than B, and B is less than C, then A is less than C), if Jesus(on Earth) was lower than the angels, and the angels are lower than God, well, you do the math. Just for the record, if you do not agree with what I have said, I will not accuse you of heresy, or call you stupid. 2nd Samuel 22 |
