81 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52782
Dear Grace and Truth, Acts 11:16 "And I[Peter] remembered the word of THE LORD, how He used to say, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.' Eph 4:5 one Lord, one faith, ONE BAPTISM, ONE baptism. Which is it? Water, or the Holy Spirit? And for the record(and not to sound spiteful), if you answer me back with "Mark 16:16" or "Acts 2:38", I will consider this discussion closed on my end. Continue in praise, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

82 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52917
Dear Grace and Truth, In I Corinthians 15:29, what the apostle Paul is saying, is,"If Jesus was not resurrected, then why are so many being baptized in HIs name? Are we baptized in the name of a dead Man?" In reference to Romans 6:3-4, baptism is symbolic of our burial and resurrection with Christ. It is not the water, or even the act, that brings about "newness of life". As it says in I Corinthians 15:45,"So also it is written, 'The first man, Adam, became a living soul.' The last Adam became a life-giving spirit." It is the Holy Spirit quickens us, bringing us out of the grave we were in. Acts 8: In the text from Isaiah 53, which is the passage quoted here, the prophet is talking about a lamb(or, Lamb) being led to be sacrificed. Keep in mind, that when Jesus was crucified, it was in accordance with OT tradition. His blood was on the four corners of the alter(the cross): From His head, His hand, and His feet. He had fulfilled the law(Matthew 5:17), and was the end of the law(Romans 10:4). Acts 11:16 is a sign not only to the Jews, but the Gentiles as well, for the Jews were rebuking him for eating with the Gentiles. And all who are God's children have been baptized with the Holy Spirit. Remember, Jesus is the Living Water, which cleanses our souls. 1 John 5:1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him. 1 John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments. 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith. If we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, then we become children of God(5:1) It is this faith that gives us victory.(5:4). And if we truly do love God then we will keep His commandments(5:2, James 2:17). Our faith must show evidence of existing, or it is not salvific faith(James 2:19). But it is not what we do that saves us, but the Grace of God, and the Holy Spirit(John 6:63). Peace be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

83 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52998
Dear Grace and Truth, The grave I was refering to was figurative, as we were "dead in our sins" before we came to salvation. I apologize for any confusion that may have caused. I stand by what I said refering to Romans 6:3-4,that it is not water that cleanses our soul, but the blood of the Christ. No only His blood, but His water as well. Notice in John 19:34--"But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water."(KJV) These are the blood and water that purge our unrighteousness. We are then baptized into Christ by the Holy Spirit. After all, can anything which is under heaven, defiled by man and our sins, truly make us right with God? Should we perform the symbolic act? Of course. Again, it is the difference between "demonic" and "salvific" faith. But it is not a condition for salvation. Just as we are commanded to abstain from uncleanness; but if we do sin, are we then "unsaved"? No. Concerning Philippians 3:10-11. If you would, take a look at the immediate preceding verse, v.9:"And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:"(KJV) Our righteousness, as Christians, comes through faith, and that through God's grace. I Peter 1:3-5 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time."(KJV) Notice, Peter says that it is God's mercy, and our faith that brings salvation. Lastly, again in I Peter--1:18-19 "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:"(KJV) He is exalted, the King is exalted on High!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

84 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 53119
Dear Grace and Truth, I agree that water baptism is one of the fruits of a changed life, that if one truly is saved, then they will want to be baptized. But, it is not the baptism itself that does the saving. Holy Spirit baptism does the saving. Water baptism is how we show the world that we do accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. Just as in I Corinthians 6, when Paul says,"...neither drunkards...shall inherit the Kingdom of God." It is not the act of drinking(as there are various refernces to support the drinking of wine), it is the desire for it instead of the Word of the LORD(Ephesians 5:18) he is condemning. Water baptism does not save, but if you are saved you will want to be immersed. Just as if you ae saved, you will want to follow all the rest of His commands. I truly do believe that we have pretty well exhausted this argument; if one or the other's mind has not been changed by now, it likely never will. He is exalted, the King is exalted on High!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

85 | Once saved, aways saved doctrine refuted | Matt 10:1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 53995
Dear Grace and Truth, If we are saved, then we are already dead in our sins(Colossians 2:13)--"And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you ALL trespasses"(KJV). Key word: ALL The answer to your question is, yes, if we are saved, and even if we die committing a sin, we will go to Heaven. Why? Because "For by one offering he hath PERFECTED FOREVER them that are sanctified."(KJV) Salvation does not refer to a present condition, but a future one. Do we need salvation for anything in this life? No. We need to be saved in order to stand before the Eternal Judge and be pronounced "not guilty"(see Colossians 2:14). And notice in Romans 10:9, the Apostle Paul says "...you WILL BE saved." We will be saved in the Day of Judgment. Besides, what sins did Jesus die for? All of them, or only the ones you have committed in the past? He is exalted, the King is exalted on High!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

86 | Once saved, aways saved doctrine refuted | Matt 10:1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 54176
Dear Grace and Truth, I need to make a correction to a part of my last post, concerning Colossians 2:13; it was written in haste. col 2:13--When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions. I do still say that when Paul says "having forgiven us all our transgressions", it means all. Past, present and future. We were dead in our sins, but we have been quickened(brought back to life)by and through Him. God is my strength and power, and He makes my way perfect!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

87 | Once saved, aways saved doctrine refuted | Matt 10:1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 54241
Dear Hank, You have toched upon something people don't consider: did Judas, and Ananais and Sapphira, indeed go to hell? All it says is Judas hung himself, and Ananais and Sapphira were struck dead. One can assume they went to hell, but nowhere is it explicitly mentioned. Would God strike them down, if they were indeed heaven-bound? Yes. He does it every day. Now, consider the man in John ch.5, sitting by the pool of Bethesda. Jesus healed him, then found him later and said, "sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon thee." What is that worse thing? We don't know for sure, it doesn't say. And according to some here, if it doesn't say it, we can't assume it. God is my strength and power, and He makes my way perfect!! 2nd samuel 22 |

88 | Is Jesus the merchant... ... | Matt 13:45 | 2ndSamuel22 | 47256
Greetings, Rivertree. I hope I can be of help. Read on to v.46. I believe Jesus is the pearl, and we are the merchants. The KJV says in v.45, "the kingdom of heaven is like UNTO a merchant man seeking goodly pearls"[emphasis mine], meaning the merchant is seeking goodly pearls, and finds one, that being the kingdom of heaven. When we find the pearl, Jesus(or, when God lays upon us the spirit of conviction, and we turn to Him), we find the kingdom of heaven. We then sell all we have(in other words, we give up all our worldly ways), and receive Him. That's how I read it. He will 2nd Samuel 22:26-28 |

"After looking around at them with anger..." Compare this with Matt 5:22, "But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court;..." Doesn't this then make Jesus a sinner? Why does Matt 5:22(NASB) leave out the phrase, "[angry] WITHOUT CAUSE"?(see KJV)
90 | Them or All of Us? | Mark 16:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 63081
Dear Lionstrong, Using your viewpoint, consider this conversation: Unsaved Person: "I think I need to get saved. Can you tell me about Jesus?" Saved Person: "Nope. sorry. I'm not an ordained apostle." UP: "But, what if I die tonight, unsaved?" SP: "Well, you'll have to call around and see if you can find a pastor to tell you about Jesus, because I just can't. Good luck." UP: "But my eternal soul is at stake.!!" My friend, this hypothetical is exactly why we ALL are called to minister. I Peter 3:15--"but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;"(NASB) "Always being ready with a defense..." Now, let's not get into the semantics of whether witnessing is offense or defense. I think you and I both know what Peter was saying here. And the last part, about "gentleness and reverence" certainly applies to your response to Emmaus. 2nd samuel 22 |

91 | Them or All of Us? | Mark 16:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 63168
Dear Lionstrong, James 5:19-20 tells us, "Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins"(KJV). And how do we convert the sinner? We witness to them, about the power of the risen Christ. Do we need to actually, physically SEE the risen Christ? I believe we DO see the risen Christ in the lives of all true believers. After all, isn't that what Paul said in Gal. 2:20? "...Yet not I, but Christ LIVETH IN ME.[emphasis mine]" And again, he tells us that "All Scripture...is profitable for...instruction in righteousness."(II Timothy 3:16). How do we instruct someone in righteousness? We tell them of the free Gift of Grace, from God, through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. And yet again, I Thessalonians 5:27--"I charge you(Timothy, who had not seen the resurrected Christ) by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren."(KJV) Let me ask you this question: If the command was only to the 11 apostles(and later, Paul), how many believers would there be in the world today? None. Because after the generation following them died off, there would be no one left to preach the Gospel. True? 2nd Samuel 22 |

92 | Them or All of Us? | Mark 16:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 63181
Greetings Lionstrong, Let us look at the full meanings of these terms in Ephesians 4:11. from Strong's-- apostles(652 apostolos) 1) a delegate, messenger, one sent forth with orders 1a) specifically applied to the twelve apostles of Christ 1b) in a broader sense applied to other eminent Christian teachers 1b1) of Barnabas 1b2) of Timothy and Silvanus prophets(4396 prophetes) 1) in Greek writings, an interpreter of oracles or of other hidden things 2) one who, moved by the Spirit of God and hence his organ or spokesman, solemnly declares to men what he has received by inspiration, especially concerning future events, and in particular such as relate to the cause and kingdom of God and to human salvation evangalists(2099 euaggelistes)evangalist 1) a bringer of good tidings, an evangelist 2) the name given to the NT heralds of salvation through Christ WHO ARE NOT APOSTLES[emphasis mine] pastors(4166 poimen) 1) a herdsman, esp. a shepherd 1a) in the parable, he to whose care and control others have committed themselves, and whose precepts they follow 2) metaph. 2a) the presiding officer, manager, director, of any assembly: so of Christ the Head of the church 2a1) of the overseers of the Christian assemblies 2a2) of kings and princes ------- The tasks of a Near Eastern shepherd were: - to watch for enemies trying to attack the sheep - to defend the sheep from attackers - to heal the wounded and sick sheep - TO FIND AND SAVE LOST AND TRAPPED SHEEP[emphasis mine] teachers(1320 didaskalos) 1) a teacher 2) in the NT one who teaches concerning the things of God, and the duties of man 1a) one who is fitted to teach, or thinks himself so 1b) the teachers of the Jewish religion 1c) of those who by their great power as teachers draw crowds around them i.e. John the Baptist, Jesus 1d) by preeminence used of Jesus by himself, as one who showed men the way of salvation 1e) of the apostles, and of Paul 1f) of those who in the religious assemblies of the Christians, undertook the work of teaching, with the special assistance of the Holy Spirit So you see, we are all given the charge of sharing the Gospel, in different ways. Whether we be messengers, interpreters, bringers of good tidings(the Good News), overseers, or teachers, we are all commanded to spread the Gospel. I would ask you this my brother: Why do you so oppose ANYBODY telling the gospel? From the day I got saved last year, it has been my heart's deepest desire to tell the Good News. When we look at where we all deserve to be going, and where we will go if we only accept the Free Gift, we should want to tell the whole world. Blessings and honor to the King 2nd Samuel 22 |

94 | Baptism: Has Enough Not Been Said? | Mark 16:16 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51249
I hear ya Hank!! I do agree, this is one thread that has gone further than I believe anyone expected. And I feel kinda guilty, because it all started with a simple question I asked Grace and Truth about baptism, and it grew to include almost every Christian in the western hemisphere..:) On the other hand, when someone is being deceived concerning the simplicity that is Christ Jesus(II Corinthians 11:3), we do owe it to them to point out where they have been misled. After all, it took me a looong time to understand that salvation can not be lost, having grown up never hearing that. But, one fine day, we will all be standing in God's Glory, and wonder why we made such a fuss over the whole issue, the way He's wondering the same thing right now. May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 PS: I enjoyed what you said about the thief getting a "baptizing break". |

95 | THREE WAYS TO BE SAVED? | John 1:12 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51292
Greetings Kimmy!! For the complete plan of salvation from God's own Word, read Acts 16:29-31--- Acts 16:29 And he called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas, Acts 16:30 and after he brought them out, he said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" Acts 16:31 They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household." If you want to say three things are necessary, then rememer ABC: Admit you are a sinner Believe Jesus died for you Confess His name Slavation is a gift from God. When have you ever had to give someone something in order to receive a gift? If you have, then it is not a gift. And if you have to go through a bunch of rituals in order to receive the gift of salvation, then it is not a gift, and God is a liar(Which we all know He is not, Titus 1:2). May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

96 | Why do people try to disprove baptism? | John 3:5 | 2ndSamuel22 | 53411
Dear NLightNMe, I can appreciate your feelings on this matter, as can many others on this forum. It shows that you truly love God, and want to know and do the truth of God's word. As for the question of why some of us so passionately argue that baptism is not necessary for salvation, I will give you my opinion, for what it's worth..:) Yes, I do believe we should all be baptized. It is a public profession of faith in Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. And it symbolizes the fact that, as our bodies are cleansed by the water, our souls are cleansed by the Holy and Precious Blood of the Lamb. Salvation comes by a changed heart, then once we are saved, the public profession. However, it is not necessary in order to be saved. Yes, when any passage mentions people being saved(Lydia, the Roman jailer, the AEthiopian eunuch), they are then baptized. But, whenever the conditions for salvation are mentioned, they are: repent, believe, confess.(Romans 10:9, Acts 16:29-31). Otherwise(and this is another subject which we have beaten into the ground), Jesus could not have told the thief they would be together in Paradise. Another reason I believe this way is this: If someone accepts Christ as their Lord and Saviour, and crossing the street to be baptized they get hit and killed by a car, are they going to hell? No. When Jesus cried,"It is finished", He meant "It is finished", or from the Greek, "Paid in full." He is exalted, the King is exalted on High!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

97 | John5:1-9 "Do you want to get well?" | John 5:6 | 2ndSamuel22 | 54173
Dear lialia, In addition to mommapbs' thoughtful response, I would add this: He asked this question for the same reason people have to be convinced to accept the free gift of Grace of God through Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. It should be a no-brainer, so why do some still reject it? Because, as you said, it means they would have to change. Contrast this story with the woman who had the flow of blood(Matthew 9:20-22), who took it upon herself to demonstrate her faith in Jesus' ability to heal her. God is my strength and power, and He makes my way perfect!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

98 | Do you yet say that Jesus was just a man | John 9:24 | 2ndSamuel22 | 55065
Dear stokeyhk, I am not sure by your posts about whether you believe that Jesus was truly God the Son. Or if you think that He was 'only a man'(however perfect). Would you please clarify your position? God is my Strength and Power, and He makes my way perfect!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

99 | Do you yet say that Jesus was just a man | John 9:24 | 2ndSamuel22 | 55102
Dear stokeyhk, I disagree that Jesus was born three times. If He was, he would have had to have died twice. And that contradicts Hebrews 9:27--"And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment"(NKJV) Now, I would agree that He was TRANSFIGURED twice--once from the Word of God to the Son of man, then second after He was risen and ascended to the Father. But these are not "births". God is my Strength and Power, and He makes my way perfect!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

100 | Do you yet say that Jesus was just a man | John 9:24 | 2ndSamuel22 | 55256
Dear stokeyhk, So, apparently, you do not believe that Jesus was equal to God(Which, of course, He was, is, and always will be). So, let me share a little something with you: Philippians 2:6--"Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:"(KJV) Now, since Jesus is the "image of the invisible God"(Colossians 1:14), and since God "cannot lie"(Titus 1:2), we can truly say that Jesus is equal to God, since He believed He was equal to God. Also: "No man hath seen God at any time..."(John 1:18 KJV), but, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do."(John 5:19 KJV) Therefore, Jesus was more than a man, He was(and is) God the Son. He could not have been "just a man", since no man has seen God, but Jesus has seen what the Father does. Also, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."(Genesis 1:1) and, "by him[Jesus] were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:"(Colossians 1:16) Since, according to Colossians, Jesus created all things, and Genesis tells us that God created the heavens and the earth, Jesus MUST be God!! Was God the Son obedieant to God the Father? Of course. He had to be, in order to carry out the will of the Father. God is my Strength and Power, and He makes my way perfect!! 2nd Samuel 22 |
