61 | question to smoke pot or not | Gen 1:12 | 2ndSamuel22 | 54796
Dear Jeshuafreak, The short answer to this question is "no". For this reason: Consider all the things that are legal under the laws of the land. Abortion. Pornography. Having children outside the bounds of marriage. All these are legal by man's standards, but not by God's standards. I posted earlier to Hank(7/15/02, 2:55pm), that in Galatians 5:20, when the Apostle Paul refers to "witchcraft", that word comes from the Greek, "pharmakeia", meaning--in short--drugs, the use of which leave us open to unclean spirits. I have seen first hand the effects of marijuana use. Don't let anyone tell you it doesn't lead to other things. My stepson started smoking it when he was 15, and within a year he was into drinking, acid, huffing. Anything to get a better high than the one before. That is why we are admonished to avoid this type of "witchcraft". God is my Strength and Power, and He makes my way perfect!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

62 | question to smoke pot or not | Gen 1:12 | 2ndSamuel22 | 54858
Dear Jeshuafreak, You wrote,"I believe that if it was lagalized for those 21 and over, like alcohol, it would help to keep it out of the hands of our maturing teens." With all due respect, don't think for a minute that, just as kids find a way to get alcohol, they won't do the same thing with pot. It would actually have the opposite effect. Consider this: A man and wife, parents of a teen, realize, "Hey, pot's legal!" and start firing up at home, with no legal repercussions over their heads. Their kid sees this, and, just like when they see mom or dad with a beer, think "hey, that looks cool!". Kid starts smoking, loses interest in everything else, family strife ensues. Then when they find out he's been toking, they wonder where he ever got the idea to start. Use of any mind-altering drug is unbiblical; it is the spirit of witchcraft(Galatians 5:20). If you want, I can post an article from a Christian Native American website detailing one man's experience with peyote. All drugs are a gateway for demons to enter into our lives. God is my Strength and Power, and He makes my way perfect!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

63 | Who'd Be In Charge? | Gen 24:5 | 2ndSamuel22 | 47481
Greetings, Lionstrong. The issue is not whether Isaac was ready to take charge, but where Abraham did not want Isaac to go. Remember, God called Abraham out of Ur of the Chaldees("...the land from which you came", v.5), an area much like Canaan in that it was filled with sin. Therefore, Abraham did not want his son to take a wife from there(Gen.24:3), and made his servant swear an oath by God(v.2-3, v.9) to this effect. Many Old Testament passages are much different than those in the New Testament, in that the OT is made up chiefly of historical accounts, which cannot always be analyzed one verse at a time like the NT. I hope I have been able to help. He Will 2nd Samuel 22:26-28 |

64 | Who'd Be In Charge? | Gen 24:5 | 2ndSamuel22 | 47574
Greetings Lionstrong! I misinterpreted your original question, and I apologize. According to John MacArthur and Matthew Henry, Isaac would be in charge. Elieazer was Abraham's steward, and would have been entitled to inherit his estate--were it not for the son, Isaac. Also, according to Mr. Henry, Eliezer was to act as a proxy for Isaac, in order to ensure that Isaac would not fall into the sins of the Canaanites. I hope I understood you this time, if not, hand me the mental floss..:-) 2nd Samuel 22:36-37 |

65 | Honor the Sabbath | Ex 20:10 | 2ndSamuel22 | 53643
Dear faith531, Matt 12:2 But when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, "Look, Your disciples do what is not lawful to do on a Sabbath." Matt 12:3 But He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and his companions, Matt 12:4 how he entered the house of God, and they ate the consecrated bread, which was not lawful for him to eat nor for those with him, but for the priests alone? Matt 12:5 "Or have you not read in the Law, that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath and are innocent? Matt 12:8 "For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." 66 | Muslims - Deut 18:15,18 | Deut 17:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52710
Dear ICor13, I'm just asking, are you talking about Deu 18 or Deu 17? You have "Deut 18" in your title line, but you quote ch.17 for your verse. I mean no offense, merely wishing to clarify If you mean chapter 18, I will offer this response: God says, in Deut 18:20--"But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of OTHER GODS, that prophet shall die." Mohammed, of course, was that "prophet" of the pagan god Allah. Besides, I believe God, when speaking about their countrymen, meant someone of pure Jewish stock. Ishmael, as we know, was half Jewish(Abram) and half Egyptian(Agar). Any further comments are welcome. Continue in praise, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

68 | Sacrificing his daughter? | Judges | 2ndSamuel22 | 52189
Dear Cyclist, The passage you are looking for is in the Book of the Judges, chapter 11. It is the story of Jephthah(not to be confused with Japheth, son of Noah). Jephthah promised God that if He delivered the children of Ammon into his hand, he would offer the first living thing that greeted him when he got home. It just so happened that it was his daughter who came out to greet him. May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

69 | Whose sons were prophesied to? | 1 Sam 2:34 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52324
Dear angelface, The sons of Eli(Hophni and Phinehas) were prophesied to die on the same day, which they did. May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

70 | Saul and David - knew him or not? | 1 Sam 17:56 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52466
Dear prayon, The key(as pointed out by the great Matthew Henry) is in I Samuel 17:15, which mentions David returning home to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem. Thus, Saul may not have even imagined that the lad would show up on the battlefield. Also, Saul probably did not think a boy of "fair countenance" who was "cunning on the harp" could defeat such a formidable foe as Goliath. Continue in praise, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

71 | 2 Kings 16 in our worship practices? | 2 Kin 16:11 | 2ndSamuel22 | 44971
How familiar does this sound: 2Kings16:7 So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, "I am your servant and your son; come up and deliver me from the hand of the king of Aram and from the hand of the king of Israel, who are rising up against me." 16:8 Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of the LORD and in the treasuries of the king's house, and sent a present to the king of Assyria.(NASB) How many times today do we compromise our biblical principles so we don't sound "mean" or "intolerant". And how often do we affiliate ourselves with the unholy just so we can make our point, no matter how trivial it is? |

72 | NIV comments? | Psalm | 2ndSamuel22 | 46229
I don't mean to stir up a hornet's nest, but what does anybody think of the NIV? I've never read it(prefering the KJV, but am not "KJV ONLY") but have heard some negative comments on it, even read some of the many differences between it and other translations. Any comments?
73 | Does Psalms 22 stand up to the skeptics? | Ps 22:16 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52919
Dear Mandy, You wrote,"With all due respect, Sir, go to Hell...." I will be one of many praying that you will see the truth, that God will open your heart to accept the free gift of the Grace of God through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and that you do not wind up "going to hell." May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

74 | Does Psalms 22 stand up to the skeptics? | Ps 22:16 | 2ndSamuel22 | 53001
Dear Jeshuafreak, We should be praying for Mandy. Let us not forget II Peter 3:9--"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." He wants us all to be with Him in His heavenly kingdom. And we must endeavour to lead people like her to the truth, the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He is exalted, the King is exalted on High!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

Dear jini, You will find this verse in Proverbs 18:19--"A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city, And contentions are like the bars of a citadel."(NASB) Peace to you!! 2nd samuel 22 |

76 | Will God ever remember our sins even aft | Is 43:25 | 2ndSamuel22 | 49931
Greetings, Native!! Psalm 103:7-13-- Ps 103:8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. Ps 103:9 He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. Ps 103:10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. Ps 103:11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. Ps 103:12 AS FAR AS THE EAST IS FROM THE WEST, SO FAR HAS HE REMOVED OUR TRANSGRESSIONS FROM US. Ps 103:13 Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. Notice the emphasis on verse 12. Here's something I read that sheds further light on this verse: If you go far enough north, you will eventually start going south. BUT--if you start going west, you will ALWAYS be going west. This same rule applies if you start going east-you will ALWAYS go east. That is how far east is from west. "East is east and west is west, and never the twain shall meet"--Rudyard Kipling May the Peace of God abound in you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

77 | Where is Luke 4:18 in the Old Testament? | Is 61:1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 53230
Dear nsgrace, You will find the aforementioned verse in Isaiah 61:1. A really good study-bible website is blueletterbible.org It has many useful tools. Dictionaries, a Strong's concordance, and commentaries from such scholars as Charles Spurgeon and Matthew Henry. It is well worth your time. 78 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52642
Dear Makarios, Let us not forget Acts 11: Acts 11:15 "And as I[Peter] began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them just as He did upon us at the beginning. Acts 11:16 "And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'" Just curious, what exactly does your name, Makarios, mean? Continue in praise, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

79 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52662
Dear fellow believers, Luke 18:17 "Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all." (NASB) What does this mean?(And I don't want to hear any new covenant/old covenant arguments). Jesus is telling us, that the path to the Kingdom of God is so easy, that even a child could understand it. Children don't give a wit about doctrine, different paths, etc. They understand John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." Notice, He does not say, "Believe in Me, and get baptized." That is what it means to "receive the kingdom of God like a child". Continue in praise, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

80 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52781
Dear Joe, You said what I was trying to say a whole lot better than I did: "More likely, Jesus is talking about children acutely realizing their need and utter dependence upon someone else for their survival. Children have nothing to offer in the way of self-sustainance and have to rely completely on someone outside themselves for what they need. Just like little children, we have nothing to offer God to merit or earn salvation; we must merely receive what God freely bestows upon His people." If I may clarify what I meant to say in regards to the verse in Luke I mentioned: We are to accept the free Gift of Grace that God has given us, through Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, as a child would receive any gift from their father: By simply accepting it, and not saying,"well, it's nice, but I'd like to add a little more to it." Perhaps "doctrine" was the wrong choice of words. Dogma, maybe? Continue in praise, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |
