61 | Iam having some questions | John 17:1 | skccab | 212509
Greetings Val, Just an FYI for you - the 600 or so commandments (actually 613) are the commandments found in Torah. As an example between the two (the 613 and oral), Exodus 23:19b "You shall not boil a young goat in it's mother's milk" - That is one of the 613 actual commandments of God given to Moses, and it doesn't sound so hard to keep. Now, the oral part that you are thinking about, observed to this very day, adds that one cannot even drink milk and eat meat together. Orthodox Jews keep milk products and meat products in separate refridgerators (my understanding is that they even have separate utensils, dishware and cookware) - all this to "help" them not break the actual simple commandment. Now THAT'S hard!! The number 613 seems big, but the vast majority of the laws for the ordinary citizen are similar to Lev. 19:35 and 36, 2 separate "laws", one is a "do" and the other says the very same thing as a "do not do" (or vice versa). Matt. 5:17-20. It was the Oral Law/Tradition that Jesus was so against, it put far too much burden on the ordinary guy, only to make the priests look oh so holy. :-) Have a safe New Year Cheri |

62 | salvation for unbelievers? | Rom 1:20 | skccab | 212489
Hank, Gosh, I stand among some fine company!! I agree wholeheartedly with peterson, WOS, justme and Gye (and all the others who thank God daily for you). We are sooooo blessed to have a such a brother as you. John, the Beloved Disciple, referred to such as you in 1 Jn. 2:13a, and 2:14a as "fathers". How very blessed we "young men" and "little children" are to be able to call you brother, and, spiritually, sit at your feet, learn from your wisdom and hear your heart. Cheri |

63 | Iam having some questions | John 17:1 | skccab | 212488
Evening Val, I pray your Christmas was a blessed one? If Kcabm's views of the Patriots and young Israel are from this New Apostolic denomination, it sounds frighteningly like "replacement" theory. I've so far stayed out of this thread in hopes that I'm wrong. (Is anyone else sensing this or am I the only one?) I've heard of the Apostolic denomination, but the "New Apostolic" is new to me, too. :-) Cheri |

65 | Sell what you have-give alms | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 212303
Flyman, You have been given numerous answers and commentary on this verse. And every last one of them is correct. I feel absolutely no condemnation that I have a car, a computer, internet, clothing and food enough. I rarely have extra but when I do, I find a way to bless someone with that extra. That's how I read that command. Under the Law of Liberty that you have in your Master you are perfectly free to sell all that you have and God be with you. Once you have given all away and have no more to give, please let me know how you are doing. I lived that way when I was very young and survived, but I was NOT a blessing to anyone when I had nothing to offer but needs of my own. Yes, God provided during my ignorance, but at the expense of others who sure could have put what they gave to me to much better use. It could have gone to people who truly had nothing and had no way to get what they needed, when I was perfectly capable of working for my living. I am NOT proud of those days at all!! I praise my God that He saw fit to keep me alive long enough for me to realize my foolishness. For I wasn't following Him, I was too busy trying to find food, shelter, clothing, etc., just daily surviving. Maybe it was to admonish you that today in 2008 you cannot physically follow Him and sit and listen to Him teach - that is what He was saying to those in the gospels, who could do that. (I sometimes envy them!!!) And the part about hating family and such, stands true today in that when it comes to who is FIRST and FOREMOST it is to be Him, and not mother, father, wife, husband, child, or anything else. As an example, right now in my apartment building there is a big secular party with a live band going on, but I observe the Sabbath. There is nothing wrong in a secular party, I'd have gone last night, but I do nothing during this 24-hour period that has anything to do with anything other than study, prayer, worship, reading, writing about or talkiing about Jesus, my Master (though in the freedom that we have in Jesus, I could be downstairs right now if I wanted to go). I choose to put Him first over a fun party and I'm having a wonderful night, I've got my praise music on, Bible open, and talking to you about the God of heaven and earth. I'm not missing anything at all!! (I hope I don't sound like I'm boasting because I'm not, I'm simply trying to give you a very viable example of "hating" anything that might take your mind off putting Him first. I worship Him all the other days of the week as well, but I treat the Sabbath as a little dress rehearsal of the world to come where it will be HIM 24/7 and I love it and I can't wait for the real thing!) Maybe since you can't seem to find the answer you want, you should take the advice another responder gave you, and quit looking at the tree and view the forest for now. The tree will become self-explanatory soon enough. Meanwhile, be blessed. And as Kcabm14 told you, if God wants you to sell all you have, you would be doing it and not asking questions about it, you would just know that you know that you know that you are to do it. Shalom Cheri |

Shalom MJH, Thanks for the info. That's just my understanding, as I prefaced my answer. I actually thought that the word echad is the reason we as Christians can say, "God in Three Persons," a compound singularity. Tax your brain for me please, I would love to know what verse is on the tip of your mind for the Jews thinking. It's probably the perfect one, and I have no idea what it might be. I'm looking forward to learning about it. I'll also ask my pastor or some of our Jewish congregants this Saturday (maybe they'll know what it is). Still learning and loving it :o) Cheri |

Hi again, We are very happy to see you here, and hope you stay around for a long long time to study God's word with us. But we (you and me) are beginning to break the guidelines by talking back and forth as a chat. This is not allowed on the Forum. I sure hope I'm not sounding rude, that's certainly not my intent - but we need to follow Lockman's guidelines. OK? Those guidelines are there to keep this Forum sola scriptura. OK? Shalom Cheri |

Shalom Clayton, No problem. The man is a gem. He, along with a lot of others who been on the Forum since it began, is a big part of the spiritual glue that keeps us all focused on Jesus and the Bible, not letting this forum go the route of many others in speculations and just a lot of unbiblical junk. Yes, I can see your interest. I, too, am very interested in our Hebrew Roots, and that journey is very rich and awesome. Since my email is in my profile and not private, it's skccab@yahoo.com in case you don't know how to view user profiles. :o). Cheri |

Greetings Flyman, Here I am getting into speculation which is virtually useless, but my 2 cents worth on this would be that He already knew what the Jews were expecting - a man, not God to be Messiah - and they had already or were on the brink of rejecting Him for that very reason. He was simply confirming their own belief - that "no one is good but God..." so He either IS their Messiah (and God) or He is not. Once again, there are others who might can give you a more scriptural basis, I cannot, I don't know of any scriptural reference for your question (which is a very good one, btw) - but "WHY" questions are hard to answer without book, chapter, and verse, which I just don't have. So, once again, this was purely speculation. Cheri |

74 | Jesus Died for all, why speak in parable | John 17:9 | skccab | 212194

75 | Jesus Died for all, why speak in parable | John 17:9 | skccab | 212191
Shalom Flyman, The study to show yourself verse is found in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 but also read verse 15 which tells Timothy that he has had the Scriptures since childhood - that means the OT (the NT had not yet been compiled). All of 2 Timothy chapters 3 and 4 would be wonderful for you to read, pray over, and then re-read. If you would like I can give you a wonderful blessing to say before and after studying the Bible if you want to email me (in my profile). Those blessings have stood me in good stead. :o) Be assured, you are one of God's special chosen ones (or you wouldn't be here!!) Cheri |

76 | Jesus Died for all, why speak in parable | John 17:9 | skccab | 212182
Shalom Flyman, Change the word "believe" or "have faith" to "trust" and maybe that will help. Do you TRUST Yeshua/Jesus to do what He says He will do? If you do "trust" then you are among the saved. A human child believes daddy can do what he says about providing food, housing and clothing, a human child has faith that daddy can do those things, but a human child ALSO trusts that his daddy will do those things. Three different words with 3 different meanings. The human child trusts and so does nothing else to help daddy do those things which he has promised to do, in fact, the little human child can do nothing to help his daddy fulfil those promises. A person who TRUSTS Jesus/God to do His promises knows he can do nothing to help, except trust and receive. I hope this helps you to understand that you are indeed saved if you trust in Jesus. Messenger, How much studying of Hebrew have you done? I haven't done too much, but what I have found out is that I have yet to find a word with 4 consonants that have only 2 sylables. The yod is a sylable in and of itself, then there are 3 more consonants - there should be at least 2 more sylables, Yahweh just doesn't seem to work. Yahoveh with the Yaho run together as a single sylable is much more likely. I haven't found a site that gives Biblical Hebrew a "w" sound yet, and I haven't found a site that give ancient Hebrew pictographs a "w" sound either. The Vav has always been a "v", an "o" or a "u" sound (maybe once upon a time a "w"? but I've not seen it yet). I'm sure there are Hebrew experts on this Forum, please show me if I'm wrong, cos I'm trying to learn Hebrew. And tell me if I'm wrong about the prounouciation too, but I can't think of one word with 4 consonants and only 2 sylables. :o) In fact, off the top of my head, I can't think of any English words with 4 consonants and only 2 sylables except where the 2 same consonants are next to each other, i.e. little, rabbit, etc. Hope I didn't put my foot in my mouth (if I did, at least I've had my bath tonight, lol) Cheri |

79 | who was exodus written to? | OT general | skccab | 212088
Hannah, Something that I left unsaid and shouldn't have - Deuteronomy is kind of a shortened repeat of the books of Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers, or at least a repeat of the commands (civil, moral and religious laws) found in those other books. Cheri |

80 | Am I ignorant | 1 Cor 12:1 | skccab | 212084
Hi Steve, This will probably get zapped, but you asked, so here goes: This has actually happened - Jack marries Jill (they even have a child) but Jack decides he was supposed to be a Jill so after 2plus years of psychoanylisis and surgeries, child now has mom Jill number 1 and mom Jill number 2. Jill2 has not started running after other Jacks, neither has the real Jill. We know that the Bible in essence says this is a no-no (for Jill2, err Jack) but the law doesn't so it's now a done deal leaving the real Jill out on a limb that the Bible does not seem to address because so far there has been no sexual immorality or adultery involved, just a sex-change which is civilally legal nowadays. Where does this leave the real wife? (And of course, it could be the other way around as well, leaving the original husband in a quandry.) And there are other similar circumstances that come to mind - but let's stick with this one for now. I am definitely PRO-BIBLE, don't get me wrong, but there are things that it just doesn't seem to address. Cheri |
