143 | who was Jesus talking about | Acts 19:15 | skccab | 210853
Jchelve The Word worked (and always will) when it falls on ears that hear and believe and act on it. The miracles and healings happened, not because the person preaching believed and was saved, but because the person hearing and in need believed and got saved or already was. God will always honor His word/promises. Cheri |

145 | The Blind leading the blind | Mark 8:18 | skccab | 210806
Dave, The Pharisees were supposed to be leaders and teachers to the common man of God's instructions. There is no instruction about the washing of hands whatsoever, it was only a part of the oral tradition, which very often put many strenuous burdens on the people. Mat. 5:17-19, Messiah did not come to change, abolish, or destroy the law, nor did He come to incorporate a new religion. He was Torah observant, not so much an observer of the oral tradition. (I think the only "men's" tradition that Messiah kept was the celebration of Chanukkah.) As far as calling them hypocrites, see Mat. 15:4-6, many such oral traditions were like that. Cheri |

Shalom Keliy, Could it be that the adulterous woman was not condemned because Messiah was following Torah? Torah required at least two witnesses (Deut. 17:6) to speak up and then those two witnesses would be the first to throw the stones (Deut. 17:7) . Notice, no one spoke up after He asked them of their position before God concerning their own sin. Messiah could not condemn her Himself, He was not an eye witness to the act. And even though He probably knew she was guilty, Torah also states that the death penalty would not be invoked on the testimony of just one witness (Deut. 19:15). Just something to chew on. :o) Cheri |

Shalom Mike, Welcome to the forum!! You don't have to be a pastor or scholar to be used of God. All input is welcomed and sought here at SBF as long as it is biblically based. You never know what the Spirit might show to someone else thru your words. :o) By the way, I checked out your mypage space and see that you're also an Ohioan (Elyria for me) but I wanted to tell you that your names is spelled as Mike Abra,s and I almost missed you. 148 | Need feedback on Genesis? | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 210702
Corrective, The point was that the promise of the Redeemer was to be the son of Abraham AND Sarah, that the names were significant - not that anyone laughed. I just added that cos it was in the passages cited. Cheri |

152 | Are old words proper for Scripture? | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 210681
Shalom Corrective I choose to go with the vav for the simple reason being that so far I know of no Hebrew words that have much of a w sound in them, but many that have the v sound. Maybe it's the difference between ashkanasics and sephardics pronounciations (please forgive bad spellings). lol I tend to use sephardic Hebrew. And no I don't know where to find Encyclopedia Judaica online. If you find out, let us know. Cheri |

Corrective, shalom How about filling out your user profile? It would be very nice if you would. Most of the rest of us have done so. I think God's definite, specific promises and words are quite "significant." Hebrew is a very action-oriented language. (In fact, there are no past or future tenses, it's all present verb related words.) If it wasn't God probably wouldn't bother changing certain peoples names from one thing meaning something specific to something else meaning what he wants that person to portray. Ishmael was born to Abram by Hagar. The promise was made TO Sarai as well, Gen. 17:15-22 to Abram regarding Sarai. (At this time their names are changed, and we see that Abraham wanted The Seed to be Ishmael, and God promised to increase him because he was Abram's son.) But....in Gen. 18:9-15 In Sarah's hearing/presence God once again promises AbraHAM of the birth of Issac. Isaac means laughter, Sarah laughed at the hearing of such news, and God gently chides her for that, then about 9months later she laughed with joy at the birth of this boy. Cheri |

Shalom Corrective, You are absolutely right!! I checked the Hebrew text and it sure is yod hei vav hei. I only sparsely use my Hebrew text cos my vocabulary is so small. Thank you for the correction. I should have checked that first. Lesson learned. :o) Cheri |

Shalom Keliy You have either the mother or the son mixed up. Rebecca gave birth to Esau (and Jacob). Hagar gave birth to Ishmael, Abram's son. Sarah gave birth to Isaac, AbraHAM's "only" son. By the way, I like your Hebrew name lots. Cheri |

I second that notion!! Huh??? Now, I'm very big into using the actual Hebrew words and names to the best of my ability (or Aramaic where applicable) but once again, huh??? What are YOU talking about? God told Abram "lech l'cha", nothing about singing. :o) And He didn't divulge His name until He spoke with Moses, only names calling on His attributes and character were known prior to Moses. Cheri |

159 | A difficult question | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 210461
Shalom again, Sorry, I sent this to myself!! Gosh, I'm good!! lol. I just thought of something else, but you do have to use the Bible itself. How long ago did people finally figure out that the earth is round and not flat. Not very long ago, I don't think, yet in Isaiah 40:22 God called the earth a circle!! Hundreds and hundredds of years before the general population and astronomers got it figured out, all they had to do was read Isaiah!! Cheri |
