61 | What is a cult? | Matt 18:6 | Pastor Glenn | 90728
Truthfinder, You said that you are no longer a Jehovah's Witness. I wonder if that has changed again. You said, "Clearly, cults are generally understood to be religious groups with radical views and practices that clash with what is accepted today as normal social behavior." What is a cult? The bible has something to say about "the spirit of error". When the bible warns against the spirit of "anti-Christ", it refers also to the spirit of error. Whereas, the Witnesses warn against "anti-Jehovah", while also belittle-ing Christ as the angel Michael. It seems that they have mis-identified the wrong "Door". This is an enormous error! Why? 1 John 4 1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3and every spirit that does not confess that[1] Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. 4You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. 6We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. They are so concerned about "small" things like using the name Jehovah. They look down on the use of "LORD" instead of "Jehovah". However, I notice that they have no problem with the huge error of calling the Holy Spirit an "active force", while the bible warns against blaspheme against the Holy Spirit. Why? The "radical views" of the Jehovah's witnesses are very appearent. Pastor Glenn |

62 | Literal or Not? | Matt 19:4 | Pastor Glenn | 92877
journey_me, You asked: "...how do we distibguish metaphors, parables, and symbols?" The bible identifies when things are not literal as when Jesus mentions creation: Matthew 19:4 And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He who made[19:4 NU-Text reads [created.] them at the beginning "made them male and female,'[ Genesis 1:27; 5:2] ] "When discusiing creation you are lead to believe that the bible is literal? Where is the proof that the Genesis creation story should be read as such? " Without a literal Adam and Eve creation story, the "original sin" cannot be taken litterally either. Then the need for a Savior also falls so there is no longer a need for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. "Where is the proof that the Genesis creation story should be read as such?" Where is any indication in scripture that the Genesis creation story can be read as none literal? Pastor Glenn |

64 | On signs of the times | Matt 24:29 | Pastor Glenn | 60738
Inheavenseyes, The tribulation will destroy a large percentage of the world population in just a few years. No one will asking if it has happened yet. It will be clearly by far the worst series of disasters of all time. It consists of much more than just wars and famines. Pastor Glenn |

65 | follow-up on the signs | Matt 24:29 | Pastor Glenn | 60755
The great tribulation will be so obvious that no one will fail to notice it. Yes we are to consider the famines, earthquakes and wars as fulfilling signs or the APPROACH of His coming rapture of the church. Most Christians believe that He will rapture the church just before the great Tribulation. I do not know when the Tribulation or rapture will be, but the tribulation will last 7 years. 66 | Judas death? Matt and Acts different | Matt 27:7 | Pastor Glenn | 87815
CMMiller, It is well understood how others can perform tasks for someone else acting as their agent, especially if they are disabled or dead. Mat 27 5Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself. 6But the chief priests took the silver pieces and said, "It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, because they are the price of blood." 7And they consulted together and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. 8Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day. 9Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the value of Him who was priced, whom they of the children of Israel priced, 10and gave them for the potter's field, as the LORD directed me."[Jeremiah 32:6-9] Acts 1 16"Men and brethren, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus; 17for he was numbered with us and obtained a part in this ministry." 18(Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out. 19And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem; so that field is called in their own language, Akel Dama, that is, Field of Blood.) 20"For it is written in the Book of Psalms: "Let his dwelling place be desolate, And let no one live in it';[Psalm 69:25] The question is really of whose name went on the deed to the property? Who would doubt that it was Judas' name on the deed? Yes Judas fell, after a time his body fell. Are you asking whether the rope, his neck, or the tree gave way? Whatever, it does not change the fact that he hung himself. Pastor Glenn |

67 | how did judes die | Matt 27:8 | Pastor Glenn | 151942
Hello revgeary60, The chief preists bought the feild using Judas' money. He had already hung himself, but afterwards, his body fell from the tree and his belly burst open. The field was called the field of blood because it was purchased with the blood money to betray Christ. Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn Matthew 27 3 Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4 saying, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." And they said, "What is that to us? You see to it!" 5 Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself. 6 But the chief priests took the silver pieces and said, "It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, because they are the price of blood." 7 And they consulted together and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. 8 Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day. 9 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the value of Him who was priced, whom they of the children of Israel priced, 10and gave them for the potter's field, as the LORD directed me." |

68 | What common beliefs does the Forum have? | Mark 9:39 | Pastor Glenn | 91150
justme, I believe in the virgin birth. By the way, it seems that Jesus set the limits very well in Mark 9 38 Now John answered Him, saying, "Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us." 39But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. 40For he who is not against us is on our side. 41For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward. 42 "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. 69 | The "short " ending of Mark? | Mark 16:8 | Pastor Glenn | 85329
JRM, I wanted to address your points. 1) how can this gospel account be read in harmony with the others (as historical accounts)? Verses 9-20 of Mark 16 are bracketed in NU-Text as not original. They are lacking in Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vaticanus, although nearly all the other manuscripts of Mark contain them. (NU-Text These variations from the traditional text generally represent the Alexandrian or Egyptian type of text, as found in the twenty-sixth edition of the Nestle-Aland Greek New Testament (N) and the United Bible Societies' third edition (U), hence the acronym, "NU-Text".) The above information is from my study bible. (Life Application Bible, Tyndale) I admit that there are definite differences between the four Gospel accounts. But, these differences enhance the truth of the heart of the story: Jesus rose from the grave and showed Himself alive to many witnesses. If the accounts were too much alike the skeptics would say "collusion"! 2) in terms of the message the gospel contains (as a narrative), why would so many copies end with the bleak ending? "bleak"??? The man who was called the Messiah, Christ, the Holy one of Israel had just risen from the dead! What do you see as bleak? 3) what do you make of the textual authority of the longer versions? (After all, we hold the "original autographs" to be authoritative, no?) As long as we are made aware of the longer and shorter versions we can have a better view of the entire story. We still do not know whether the original secretary returned to finish the job or what. I also like to see italic words that were not in original so that we are free to compare the meaning of verses after praying. Notice also how Nicodemus (John 3) did not understand the concept of being born again after studying and memorizing the scriptures all his life from the original Hebrew documents. Scripture also speaks of those that are dull of hearing and seeing. We must deal with the glaring imperfections in our hearts before we can really understand God's word. John 3:9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? John 3:10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? John 3:11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. John 3:12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? Matthew 13:15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. Acts 28:27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. Hebrews 5:11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. There is more manuscript support for the New Testament than for any other body of ancient literature. Over five thousand Greek, eight thousand Latin, and many more manuscripts in other languages attest to the integrity of the new testament. Pastor Glenn |

70 | Mt 1:16, Luke 3:23 different fathers? | Luke 3:23 | Pastor Glenn | 64230
Robert, Joseph was the son "-in-law" of Heli. The women's names were rarely mentioned, it just was not considered proper. However, the line traced through Mary was the most important to show that the prophecy to Adam of "the seed of the woman" had been fulfilled along with the prophecy that He would come through the line of King David. " Matthew's list of the forefathers of Jesus showed that Christ was the son of Abraham, in whom all the families of the earth are blessed, and heir to the throne of David; but Luke shows that Jesus was the Seed of the woman that should break the serpent's head, and traces the line up to Adam, beginning with Eli, or Heli, the father, not of Joseph, but of Mary. The seeming differences between the two evangelists in these lists of names have been removed by learned men. But our salvation does not depend upon our being able to solve these difficulties, nor is the Divine authority of the Gospels at all weakened by them. The list of names ends thus, "Who was the son of Adam, the son of God;" that is, the offspring of God by creation. Christ was both the son of Adam and the Son of God, that he might be a proper Mediator between God and the sons of Adam, and might bring the sons of Adam to be, through him, the sons of God. All flesh, as descended from the first Adam, is as grass, and withers as the flower of the field; but he who partakes of the Holy Spirit of life from the Second Adam, has that eternal happiness, which by the gospel is preached unto us." 72 | who was Mary Magdalene | Luke 8:2 | Pastor Glenn | 139481
Hello LSmith, Rumors like this do not come from bible scripture. Here are all 12 of the verses that include Mary Magdalene's name: Matthew 27:56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedees children. Matthew 27:61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre. Matthew 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. Mark 15:40 There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome; Mark 15:47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid. Mark 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. Mark 16:9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. Luke 8:2 And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, Luke 24:10 It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. John 19:25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. John 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. John 20:18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the LORD, and that he had spoken these things unto her. |

74 | Go out in the highways and thebyways!!!! | Luke 14:23 | Pastor Glenn | 67491
Mae64, I really cannot comment about your church or pastor, but here are two scriptures: 2 Corinthians 9 5Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren to go to you ahead of time, and prepare your generous gift beforehand, which you had previously promised, that it may be ready as a matter of generosity and not as a grudging obligation. The Cheerful Giver 6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. 9As it is written: "He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever." Luke 14 The Parable of the Great Supper (1) 15 Now when one of those who sat at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, "Blessed is he who shall eat bread[3] in the kingdom of God!" 16Then He said to him, "A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, 17and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, "Come, for all things are now ready.' 18But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, "I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.' 19And another said, "I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.' 20Still another said, "I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.' 21So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, "Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.' 22And the servant said, "Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.' 23Then the master said to the servant, "Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 24For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper."' 76 | Purpose of this forum? | Luke 14:26 | Pastor Glenn | 101371
seeking4truth, I am amazed at your knowledge of God's word while still being a skeptic. May I suggest that you prioritize your bible questions in relation to eternal importance. I have read many of your posts and find a couple things that stand out. One thing is that the fear of spending eternity in hell helped to convert you as a teenager. Another thing is that no one ever really discipled you. Please try to keep these two problems in mind as you prioritize your many questions. The fear of death and hell should not be despised as poor reasons to come to Christ. After all, death is sure, whether you believe or not. However, fear of hell fire depends on your belief in the God of the bible. When some of us on this forum question your salvation, maybe it is because we want you to focus on the most important questions. Please do not despise those that may be trying to disciple you by focusing on where Jesus is in your life. Even those that seek a notch in their gun should not be despised any more than a Fireman that keeps tabs of all the lives that he saved throughout his career. Remember, “He that wins souls are wise.” You asked for web-site suggestions. Here is one: http://www.apologeticspress.org Pastor Glenn |

77 | True Disciples - eternal importance | Luke 14:26 | Pastor Glenn | 101386
seeking4truth, Here is something else that Christ said: Joh 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. “So I have to confess to God that I don't exhibit the signs that Jesus gave whereby His true followers and disciples would be known.” Miracles were often necessary to gain a base of witnesses, it was not meant to be an everyday thing for all believers. We walk by faith, not by sight. If miracles were very common then faith becomes unnecessary. Even Paul was not granted healing from his “thorn in the flesh” or else he would suffer a bigger problem: Pride. “Pastor Glenn, it would seem that being a disciple of Christ is an eternal issue. But, frankly, sir, I don't measure up to Jesus' own criteria. And to be honest, I don't have the faith to prove my discipleship the way that He demands. What am I to do?” Many Christians confuse “gifts” (healing, tongs…) with “fruit” (love, joy…). The “fruit” of the Spirit are far more important than the “gifts”. Notice that those that have shown gifts will come to Jesus: Mat 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. If you have the fruit of the Spirit called love, then you know that you are saved: 1Jo 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 1Jo 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. 1Jo 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 1Jo 3:17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 1Jo 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. 1Jo 3:19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. 1Jo 3:20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. 1Jo 3:21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. 1Jo 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 1Jo 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 1Jo 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 1Jo 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 1Jo 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 1Jo 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1Jo 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 1Jo 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. 1Jo 4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. Pastor Glenn |

78 | What is people sin? | Luke 15:7 | Pastor Glenn | 67268
confusing, God created Lucifer (Satan) as a spirit like Himself. The angels had a choice, but no Savior from the bad choice. When man sinned due to Satan's temptation, he made a choice that by God's justice required swift death sentence. Unlike the angels that sinned, we have a savior. Satan's temptation helps to force us to choose Jesus or Satan before we die. Without pain and suffering, we would not see a need to choose Jesus Christ. God cares very much and does everything to help us make the right choice: Luke 15:1 Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him. 2And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, "This Man receives sinners and eats with them." 3So He spoke this parable to them, saying: 4"What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? 5And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, "Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!' 7I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance. 79 | Bible facts on retarded kids? | Luke 18:17 | Pastor Glenn | 65599
jadedust, Whether mentally or physically retarded, they are destined to have an easier time accepting Christ and receiving eternal life. Spiritually, we are all retarded. We were designed with a spiritual nature that is missing until we accept Jesus. Adam and Eve lost their glorious nature the day that they sinned. Also, retarded children by definition will always have a dependency that gives them a meek and humble nature that the rich and independed of us lack. So we are all born retarded. Luke 18:15 Then they also brought infants to Him that He might touch them; but when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 16But Jesus called them to Him and said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. 17Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." Luke 10:21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, "I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. Luke 18:25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Hello Toeknee, It appears the your main question is "why you are wrestling with lust since you were easily delivered from worse things?". The answer is that once we are born again, it is only the beginning of the struggle between the flesh (our old nature) vs the spirit (our new nature). Galatians 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. Please study Romans 8 and Gal 5. Hope this helps, Pastor Glenn |
