41 | Nakedness, Mark 14:52 and John 21:7 | Mark 14:52 | Makarios | 227753
Greetings Billisimo! I pray that my answer to your question would be encouraging to you and your walk with Christ. Of the Gospel of Mark (Mark 14:51-52), William Barclay writes in his commentary: "We saw in the introduction that Matthew and Luke used Mark as the basis of their work and that they include in their gospels practically everything that is in Mark. But they do not include these two verses. That would seem to show us that this incident was interesting to Mark and not really interesting to anyone else. Why then are they there? And why was this incident so interesting to Mark that he felt that he must include it? By far the most probable answer is that the young man was no other than Mark himself, and that this is his way of saying, "I was there," without mentioning his own name at all." Of the Gospel of John (John 21:7), the NET Bible has a great commentary here that states: "..It is thus commonly understood to mean "stripped for work" here (cf. NASB, NLT), that is, with one's outer clothing removed, and Peter was wearing either a loin-cloth or a loose-fitting tunic (a long shirt-like garment worn under a cloak, cf. NAB, "for he was lightly clad"). Believing himself inadequately dressed to greet the Lord, Peter threw his outer garment around himself and dived into the sea..." There is more to add, but I hope that the above has clarified the intentions of Mark and Peter so as to reduce the emphasis on 'nakedness' and emphasize the context of what the gospel writers were attempting to convey. 42 | who is the foxes in luke 9;58 is t herod | Luke 9:58 | Makarios | 227678
Greetings R.C.! You asked, "luke 9;58 says foxes have holes...birds have nest....my wifes pastor is bored with the bilble and now says that foxes in this verse is represenitive of herod because jesus later calls him afox..and birds represent rome...can you tellme where he read this .....what writer holds to this nonsense...rc shoun" Two verses in question: Luke 9:58 and 13:32 Luke 9:58 "And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head." (ESV) Luke 13:32 "And he said to them, "Go and tell that fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I finish my course." (ESV) You are right when you said that the implication of 'foxes' in 9:58 as a reference to Herod (because of 13:32) is 'nonsense.' Both verses use the same Greek word 'alopex', which means "a cunning person or fox" according to Strong's Exhaustive Concordance. But that is where the similarity ends. The context of both verses is very different! In Luke 9:58, you really have to read verses 57-62 to gain the real meaning of the context of what Jesus is teaching, in which He concludes, "No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." (verse 62) In Luke 13:32, (context in verses 31-35) Jesus is indeed referring to Herod Antipas in verse 32 as a fox, since he was known for his cunning deceit to achieve his aims, but the meaning of the context is this: Jesus would continue on schedule to fulfill His mission, and there was nothing that Herod could do to stop Him. I hope that this helps! Blessings to you, Makarios |

43 | traditions of men? | Mark 7:8 | Makarios | 227676
Greetings Julia! You asked "What does it mean by "tradition of men"? Some people say that holidays are traditions of men...?" in relation to Mark 7:8. John Gill's commentary is very good here: "Ye hold the tradition of men: very significantly are the elders, whom the, Jews revered, and whose traditions and constitutions they extolled above the Scriptures, called "men", in distinction from "God", whose commands they neglected; which exposes and aggravates their sin, that they should leave the one, which had the stamp of divine authority on them, and hold the other, which were only the devices of men's brains;" We should never give man's word the same weight as God's Word. The Pharisees were taking a commandment or opinion from men, and teaching or promoting it as a doctrine from God (legalism). Blessings to you, Makarios |

44 | where in the bible it talks about gays | 1 Cor 6:10 | Makarios | 227660
Greetings MsDailey, You asked, "Where in the bible it talks about gays and lesbians"? The Bible says that the gay or bisexual lifestyle is sinful and needs to be repented of: 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 "Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God." The above 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 says that those who make such a lifestyle as their practice will not inherit the kingdom of God. As far as why such a lifestyle is bad, please read Romans 1:24-32 which states that the gay/bisexual lifestyle orginates from spiritual depravity. Romans 1:24-32 "Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them." For more of what the Bible has to say about the gay/bisexual lifestyle, please see: * Genesis 18:16 - 19:29 (God's judgment) * Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 (God's direct command) * Judges 19:22-30 (The effect of this sin on society) * 1 Timothy 1:8-11 (The law was made for such a sin as this) Praise God that there is forgiveness for such a lifestyle in our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. I highly recommend an excellent post on this subject - Post# 9123. Blessings to you, Makarios |

46 | jesus forty days after his death | Acts 1:3 | Makarios | 227638
Greetings Hummer, You asked, "what did jesus do for forty days after ressuression and his accention"? Acts 1:3 "To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God." So there you have it: during the 40 days Jesus was presenting Himself as alive by convincing proofs, and speaking of the things of the Kingdom of God. Blessings to you, Makarios |

47 | my question concerns Mat 6:13. Please. | Matt 6:13 | Makarios | 227636
Greetings Patrick19, Welcome to StudyBibleForum.com! You asked why the phrase 'for yours is the kingdom' omitted from Matthew 6:13 in some Bible versions. Matthew 6:13: "'And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]'" (NASB has it in italics) "And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen." (NKJV retains it) "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." (ESV omits completely) The NET Bible (http://net.bible.org/bible.php) has some excellent textual notes that explain some of the presumed 'discrepancies' between translations, and here it simply says that most manuscripts read "for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, amen" here. The reading without this sentence, though, is attested by generally better witnesses. The phrase was probably composed for the liturgy of the early church and most likely was based on 1 Chr 29:11-13; a scribe probably added the phrase at this point in the text for use in public scripture reading.. Both external and internal evidence argue for the shorter reading. (paraphrased with some liberties from http://net.bible.org/bible.php) Therefore, since the evidence points to the shorter rendering as being the more 'original' rendering, then that is why you generally see the shorter rendering in most of the Bible translations of today. 48 | World ending? | Matt 24:30 | Makarios | 227625
Greetings Ily1998, You asked, "What has not happened yet for the world to end?" If you believe that Jesus Christ could return at any time, then I would say that His Second Coming is that very event that the whole world will not be able to miss before the end of the world. 49 | Resources for Creation Day 4. | Gen 1:1 | Makarios | 227623
Greetings Cflip, You asked for resources for creation day 4. The fourth day in the Genesis narrative account of the Creation is found in Genesis 1:14-19. During this day, God created the sun, the moon, the stars and all of the cosmos in the heavenly host. If you are aiming for a presentation for children, then I found the following: http://www.squidoo.com/CreationDay4 http://ministry-to-children.com/creation-day-four-preschool/ http://joyfulpreschool.blogspot.com/2008/08/creation-day-4stars-moon-sun.html For something more grown up: John MacArthur has a series of sermons: http://www.gty.org/Resources/Sermons/90-215 Here is one perspective: http://www.godandscience.org/youngearth/genesis1.html And here is another: http://www.rationalchristianity.net/creation_day4.html Fill in the blank document of Day 4 that could fit in a bulletin: http://sancarloscommunitychurch.com/mp3/08012010.pdf I hope that this helps! 50 | What does it mean to submit? | Matt 20:26 | Makarios | 227622

51 | submission,meaning | Matt 20:26 | Makarios | 227620
Greetings Begbie, You asked a question about submission. Perhaps Jesus said it best in Matthew 20:26.. Matthew 20:26 "It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant," So, if we want to be "great", or a "great Christian" or "approved", then we really do have to submit to each other in love, regarding "one another as more important than yourselves" (Phil. 2:3), and not looking to our own personal interests, but to the interests of others (Phil. 2:4). Once we have met all of the needs of everyone around us - sharing and growing in our faith together with believers and being an example of Christ to the world - then we can really know (and exhibit) the true meaning of submission. Blessings to you, Makarios |

52 | fight and contend for your faith | Jude 1:3 | Makarios | 227596
Greetings Chefernie1, You asked, "How best, can we as teachers, encourage our brothers and sister to contend "fight for their faith and guard the gifts the lord has given us. How may we encourage them to to follow the description in 2Peter 1:5-8."? I would answer this with Hebrews 12:2: Hebrews 12:2 "fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Blessings to you, Makarios |

53 | giving brings joy to many | 2 Cor 9:7 | Makarios | 227592
Greetings Ron! You asked, "There is a scripture that refers to the gift of giving that brings joy to many...where is that found?" Perhaps 2 Cor. 9:7 is what you are looking for? 2 Corinthians 9:7 "Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." Blessings to you, Makarios |

54 | left behind/rapture | 1 Thessalonians | Makarios | 227590
Greetings Legsrandall, You asked a question about the rapture. Even though the word "rapture" is not in the Bible, the whole theology of the rapture is based on 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18, when "we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord." (verse 17) In all fairness, Paul wrote this to comfort those who mourned the loss (and wondered about the eternal destiny) of those who had died before the coming of the Lord. So, if that means that the whole theology of the rapture is 'far-fetched' at best, then you would have the opportunity to express how you interpret this verse, but there certainly can be no doubt about the Second Coming of Christ! (Matthew 24:30) We must be found "ready" at His return by living a life that is pleasing to Him as a result of placing our faith in Him as the Lord and Savior of our very lives. Blessings to you, Makarios |

59 | WHO WAS TALKING IN PHILIPPIANS 4:1 | Phil 4:1 | Makarios | 227581
Greetings Fabulous! You asked, "Who was talking in Philippians 4:1"? Philippians 4:1 "Therefore, my beloved brethren whom I long to see, my joy and crown, in this way stand firm in the Lord, my beloved." (NASB) I am currently studying Philippians in my personal devotions, and it remains one of my favorites to dwell on. To answer your question, the apostle Paul is speaking to all who are holy in Christ Jesus in Philippi (Phil. 1:1). Blessings to you, Makarios |

60 | when is one spit out? can door be opened | Rom 11:5 | Makarios | 227570
Greetings Larry Roy Green! Praise the Lord that you can honestly tell yourself (and others) that you are lukewarm as a Christian and Revelation 3:16 speaks to you. But I see Revelation 3:16 and 3:20 as an opportunity - see 1 John 1:9: 1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." So, we can take the initiative, give the Lord his place as Lord and Savior of our lives, and repent of our sins. Then, we can remove all of the obstructions of the Holy Spirit working in our lives and live wholeheartedly, sold out to Him! Blessings to you, Makarios |
