61 | a statement for past, pres , or future ? | Rev 22:11 | Makarios | 227569
Greetings Humble Warrior! Revelation 22:11 "Let the one who does wrong, still do wrong; and the one who is filthy, still be filthy; and let the one who is righteous, still practice righteousness; and the one who is holy, still keep himself holy." Since Jesus is coming so suddenly, will there be any time for change? This verse gives the sense that there won't be any time left for change: no last minute repentance. But there is time right now, before Jesus comes back. So if what you've read in Revelation hasn't changed you, then there isn't much hope! Once the final states of the righteous and the wicked are set, then they will be fixed forever. There is no 'second chance' after this. Blessings to you, Makarios |

62 | again the events surrounding the death o | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 227361
Greetings again Shahbaz, Happy Easter to you as well! If you have access to a Bible, then I strongly suggest that you read 1 Samuel chapters 28-30 before I answer your question, which was "Please describe the events surrounding the death of Saul?" And you meant: Saul, the King of Israel. Please first read 1 Samuel 28-30 and then I will answer any questions you may have after that. Blessings to you, Makarios |

63 | gifts of the spirit | NT general | Makarios | 227360
Greetings Sherrodstory, You asked, "what are the gifts of the spirit where would i find scriptures?" The Bible gives us a perspective on what kinds of gifts God gives to His body to advance the Kingdom of God. Several passages of scripture list various gifts and ministries of the Holy Spirit. Four major lists of gifts are found in Romans 12:3-8, 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, Ephesians 4:11-12, and 1 Peter 4:9-11. Blessings to you, Makarios |

64 | Evidence for "easter"? | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 227348
Greetings Justme, You asked, "Where in Scripture does it explain why we call Resurrection Sunday, easter? Am I under the misunderstanding that eastar was a fertility goddess. If there Scriptual evidence that earChristians celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ?" There is no such place in Scripture that provides an example where any believer in Christ called any holiday "Easter." The current practice of honoring 'Resurrection Sunday' as 'Easter Sunday' has arisen from church tradition, not directly from scripture. The secular, paganistic practices that you are referring to were adopted by the Catholic church in the middle ages in such a way (could be seen as a subtle attempt) to 'relieve' the pagans of their own festivals and holy days by reforming them in a 'Christian image.' After years of history and tradition, an examination of some of the origins of these practices show that there were, in fact, secular aspects of certain festivals back then. Is it of no great surprise that such similar practices have crept their way back into the secular practice of holidays today? But should the celebration of Christians, gathering for the greatest of reasons, if we keep that real reason as THE reason for celebration, be prohibited? Even if the celebration be called by something now by the culture at large not initially related in any way to the REAL reason for our celebration? Blessings to you, Makarios |

65 | describe the events surrounding the deat | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 227346
Greetings Shahbaz-MTh student, There are two prominent people in the Bible named "Saul"; one of which was King of Israel and the other of which was also known as Paul (Acts 13:9). The death of Saul, the King of Israel, is chronicled in 1 Samuel 28-30 and 1 Chronicles 10. The death of Saul, who was also known as Paul (the apostle), is described by the historian Eusebius as having taken place in Rome, and beheaded for his faith by order of Nero. 66 | What is the will of God? | 1 John 2:17 | Makarios | 227344
Greetings Julia, You asked, "This might be a very basic question, but what is the will of God? Thanks to all" This is an excellent question! Jesus said that those who do the will of God are part of His family (Mark 3:35), and born of the will of God (John 1:13). Jesus described the will of God as seeking the glory of God over and above your own glory (John 7:17-18). And Paul says in Acts 22:14 that he, at least, was appointed to know God's will, which is "good" and "acceptable" and "perfect" (see Romans 12:2). Primarily, I believe that the will of God is salvation for all who will believe (Matthew 28:19; Acts 28:28). But God's will for each individual believer could possibly mean different things, for instance: Romans 8:27 describes God's will as intercession for the saints. 2 Cor. 7:10 describes the will of God as producing sorrow, and therefore, repentance. 1 Thess. 4:3 describes the will of God in terms of sanctification. But perhaps through our 'readiness' in the way of a renewed mind in Christ can we reflect God's will to others, in spite of our imperfect selves! (Romans 12:2) So, each one of us, who truly seeks to do His will, must do that which we are called to do, or else face judgment (Romans 14:12). Who wants to live forever? We must seek to glorify Him in whatever way possible that we can! Or perhaps God's will can be best described by His love for us: "nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:39) This is the kind of love that no human could ever reproduce or duplicate - the perfect love that can only come from God. And, at our very best, we might be able to show some of that to our fellow creation here on earth. Blessings to you, Makarios |

68 | persecution of the jewish people | Matt 27:24 | Makarios | 227276
Greetings BoJac1, You asked, "I have read that the Jewish people will be forever persecuted for their role in the crucifixion of Christ. History seems to confirm this/ Is there anyplace in the Bible that may allude to this?" Please read the following post# 8303 by kalos, written 6-27-01: "Who was responsible for (guilty of) putting Christ to death? .... "Acts 4:27 "For truly in this city there were gathered together against Your holy servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel," Here the scripture itself names two individuals and two groups of people who "were gathered together against...Jesus." They are: 1) Herod 2) Pontius Pilate 3) the Gentiles 4) the peoples of Israel Was Pilate guilty for Christ's death? Yes. Was he the only one who was guilty? No." I hope that this helps! 69 | are animals saved like humans | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 227231
Greetings Vicki Tracy, You ask, "are animals saved like humans?" There is no Biblical evidence to suggest that any other creature other than man has the opportunity to place their faith in Christ and be saved. Although certain passages, such as Isaiah 11:6 and 65:25 speak of animals and man dwelling together in perfect harmony in the Millennial Kingdom, there is no Scriptural evidence to indicate that any other being other than mankind has any capacity to place 'faith' in Christ. 71 | What is a Missionary? | Matt 28:19 | Makarios | 227184
Greetings Philly, You ask, "What is a missionary and what are their duties?" To the Christian missionary and those who send him out, missions is the Christian church trying to win others to the Christian faith, especially through a group of selected workers called missionaries. Many times, missionaries, who are members of the Christian church, don't often think of themselves as missionaries - they are just personal witnesses to the transforming power of the gospel of Christ. There is a distinction between home and foreign missions. Foreign missions call for missionaries with different qualifications from those at home, and they may even have to use different methods of work. The range of their activities will often be much broader, and to be effective, they may have to learn and follow different rules of practice, but their spirit and their message will be the same! It is amazing what and where a personal and vital experience with Jesus Christ will send you and prompt you to do, all in the effort to spread the gospel! Blessings to you, Makarios |

I apologize, but I am unable to find any Biblical reference to a "seven steps to honor" in association with Joseph. 74 | Is this free will? | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 227136
Greetings Believer_1! You asked a question about 'free will', or also known as Calvinism vs. Arminianism (or Predestination vs. Free Will). This subject has been brought up and discussed many, many times at this Forum; I recommend the following threads - #368, 960, 1308, 5455, 6540, 13553, 18903, 41650. Please review the above threads as I am confident that you will see that there is hardly any new such material that could be added to such a potentially divisive topic at this Forum. 78 | the lady at the fountain also washd feet | John 4:7 | Makarios | 227020
Greetings Believer_1, You asked, "Was the lady at the fountain, that jesus spoke with also the lady later on who washed his feet with her tears and dried them with her hair?" So, you are asking if the woman in John 4:7-29 is the same woman spoken of in Luke 7:37-47? If the lady in John is a Samaritan (John 4:7) and the lady in Luke is from Nain (Luke 7:11), then this would not be the same woman. Also, the woman in John 4:7-29 could not be the same woman in Matthew 26:6-13; Mark 14:3-9; John 12:1-8), since that woman was not a sinner, and Jesus was eating in the home of Simon the leper, which was in Bethany (Matt. 26:6). Blessings to you, Makarios |

79 | WHAT IS THE (PORTION) IN LUKE 12:46 | Luke 12:46 | Makarios | 227007
Greetings JJE, You asked, "WHAT IS THE (PORTION) IN LUKE 12:46?" Luke 12:46 "The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers." (KJV) John Gill's commentary provides an answer: "and will cut him in sunder, and appoint him his portion with unbelievers; whose portion is the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death, Rev_21:8 and by these are meant, not only the Heathens, who never heard of Christ; nor the Jews only, who disbelieved the Messiah, and rejected him when he came; but all deists and atheists, who deny revelation; even all unbelievers of, and scoffers at the coming of Christ, and who put away the evil day far from them; compare with this Job_20:29, See Gill on Mat_24:51." And Jamieson, Fausset and Brown commentary: "the unbelievers — the unfaithful, those unworthy of trust (Mat_24:51), “the hypocrites,” falsely calling themselves “servants.” Blessings to you, Makarios |

80 | when seeking forgiveness causes pain | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 227005
Greetings slm08, You asked, "If asking for forgiveness from someone and offering reparation causes that person further discomfort of hurts them, what does the Bible say to do in this instance?" If you have truly repented of your sin and asked for forgiveness, but the person who is wronged is further discomforted by your offer, then perhaps they just need a little more time to get over it, depending on what it was. If time goes on and you need to be forgiven to be at peace, then perhaps you could seek out the advice of your Pastor. Blessings to you, Makarios |
