3063 | John | Revelation | EdB | 235943
Internal and historical evidence points to John the apostle as the author. John was one of Jesus’ original twelve disciples, chosen personally by Jesus to follow and learn from him. John also wrote one of the NT Gospels (the Bible’s four narrative accounts of Jesus’ life) and three other NT letters (see introductions to John’s Gospel and 1, 2 and 3 John). Other church leaders of the late first and early second centuries support the belief that John is the author. For example, Irenaeus verifies that Polycarp (Irenaeus knew Polycarp, and Polycarp knew the apostle John) spoke about John writing Revelation near the end of Domitian’s reign as Roman emperor (A.D. 81-96). 3064 | what do the seven seals indicate? | Revelation | EdB | 236755
It is know that documents of this time were often sealed by the author. They insure the privacy of the what was written and prevented anyone from covertly reading them undetected. The author usually used a number of seals and if their was any witnesses they often placed their seal on the document and at times the scribe or the person that actually wrote the document placed his seal on it. So it was not unusually to have a number of seals on a document. In the book of Revelations each seal reveals something. seals 1-4 the four horsemen, the fifth the souls of the martyrs, they sixth great earthquake and seventh the 7 angels with trumpets. These all have meanings depending on your theology. 3067 | Horses eating horses? | Revelation | EdB | 240049
To my knowledge there is no passage in the Book of Revelations speaking of horses eating horses. Sonofmom understand there is a lot of symbolism in the Book of Revelations. John is describing things that were not yet fully understood by man at the time and some still aren't. About half of Christianity views the Book of Revelation as symbolism and the other half has offered explanations to the events that are vividly spoken about. However until the Prophecy of the Book is totally fulfilled none of us can be sure the events will occur as man has concluded. Two things are certain. Jesus is coming back. And things are going to get tougher and tougher. Being a true Christian now and even more so in the future requires sacrifice, dedication, commitment and real effort. |

I suspect this is homework. So I will only give you the chapters. The word Lion is mentioned 6 times in Revelation. Once in chapters 4 and 5 twice in chapter 9 and once again in chapters 10 and 13. Now take the time to read the Book of Revelation and show yourself a workman approved. |

What is your question? John 1:1-5 (NASB) 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. |

3070 | to the seven church in the province of A | Rev 1:4 | EdB | 136613
1:4 seven churches which are in Asia. Asia Minor, equivalent to modern Turkey, was composed of 7 postal districts. At the center of those districts were 7 key cities which served as central points for the dissemination of information. It is to the churches in those cities that John writes. who is and who was and who is to come. God’s eternal presence is not limited by time. He has always been present and will come in the future. the seven Spirits. There are two possible meanings: 1) a reference to Isaiah’s prophecy concerning the 7-fold ministry of the Holy Spirit (Is. 11:2); or 2) more likely, it is a reference to the lampstand with 7 lamps (a menorah) in Zechariah—also a description of the Holy Spirit (see notes on 4:5; 5:6; Zech. 4:1–10). In either case, 7 is the number of completeness, so John is identifying the fullness of the Holy Spirit. MacArthur, J. J. (1997, c1997). The MacArthur Study Bible (electronic ed.) (Re 1:4). Nashville: Word Pub. Notes from Zech. 4:1–10 referenced above the other two references read similar to note on 1:4 4:1–14 The fourth vision focused on Joshua the High-Priest and, by extension, the cleansing and restoration of the nation to her divinely appointed role as priest. This fifth vision focuses on the civil leader Zerubbabel, a descendant of David, to encourage him in the work of rebuilding the temple. The faithful completion of the work would then enable Israel to again bear light of God’s grace (testimony) to the world. 4:1 as a man who is wakened. Once again the interpreting angel comes to awaken the prophet out of spiritual exhaustion from the holy trauma of the previous vision. Cf. Dan. 10:9. 4:2 seven pipes to the seven lamps. The lampstand is the 7-branched kind used in the tabernacle, with the addition of a bowl on the top of it in order to maintain an abundant supply of oil and pipes to carry the oil to keep the 7 lamps burning. The picture is of an abundant supply. 4:3 Two olive trees. Olive oil, was used in those days to fuel the lamps. The two olive trees supply oil to the bowl. The graphic picture is of limitless oil, supplied automatically without human agency, flowing from the trees down to the bowl, down to the lamps. 4:4 What are these. Zechariah wanted to know the meaning of the two olive trees. Because of Zechariah’s priestly background, his query surprised the interpreting angel (v. 5). His question goes unanswered until later (v. 14). 4:6 This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel. The purpose of the vision was to encourage Zerubbabel to complete the temple rebuilding, to assure him of divine enablement for that venture and the endless supply for the future glory of Messiah’s kingdom and temple. The lampstand pictured Israel fully supplied by God to be His light then and in the future. It must be noted that the church has temporarily taken this role presently (cf. Eph. 5:8,9; Rev. 1:12,13,20), until Israel’s salvation and restoration to covenant blessing and usefulness. Cf. Rom. 11:11–24. Not by might … power, but by My Spirit. Neither human might, wealth, or physical stamina would be sufficient to complete the work. Only an abundant supply of the power of the Holy Spirit, pictured by the “bowl” (v. 2) would enable him to carry out the task, and enable Israel in the Messiah’s kingdom to be a light again to the world by the operation of the Spirit (cf. Ezek. 36:24). 4:7 Who are you, O great mountain? Because the outcome is guaranteed (vv. 6,9), any mountain-like opposition will be leveled by God to become like a flat surface. No obstacle will be able to stop the completion of the temple in Zerubbabel’s time or in the final kingdom of Messiah (cf. Ezek. 40–48). the capstone. The final stone of the building will be put into place, signifying its completion. Grace, grace to it! This blessing signifying shouts of joy and thanksgiving came to pass (cf. Ezra 3:11–13) over the completion of the temple. Contrast this attitude with that of the people seeing the unfinished temple (Hag. 2:3). 4:9 Me. This is the Angel of the Lord (see note on 1:11), the Protector, Deliverer, Defender of Israel, sent to bring this to fulfillment. In the future, He will come as Messiah to set up worship in the temple in His kingdom. 4:10 the day of small things. Though the rebuilding of a temple smaller than Solomon’s may have been discouraging to some (cf. Ezra 3:12; Hag. 2:3), the Lord announced that His pleasure was upon this work, and that His omniscient care (“7 eyes”) was watching over and taking pleasure in its completion. He said in effect, “Don’t despise what God is pleased with.” This was only a picture of the glorious restoration when Messiah comes to reign. That temple will make all others pale by comparison (cf. Ezek. 40–48). MacArthur, J. J. (1997, c1997). The MacArthur Study Bible (electronic ed.) (Zec 4:1-10). Nashville: Word Pub. EdB |

3074 | Scripture about the keys from hell | Rev 1:18 | EdB | 116316
banangel In Rev. 1:18 Jesus states he has the keys of Hades and of Death. There is no indication there of where he got them. Some teach that Satan had them and Jesus got them from him. However there is nothing in the Bible to support this theory. Others teach God had them and gave them to Jesus. In support of this in the Book of Job we see God controls who Satan can kill or not therefore God evidently has power of death. We also see God clearly controls heaven and earth. Psalm 24:1 The earth is the Lord's, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. Psalm 50:10-12 For every beast of the forest is Mine, And the cattle on a thousand hills. [11] I know all the birds of the mountains, And the wild beasts of the field are Mine. [12] "If I were hungry, I would not tell you; For the world is Mine, and all its fullness. Here we see Jesus proclaim He has been given all authority and since God controlled everything we have to assume Jesus got the keys from God. In Matthew 28:18 “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” This would fit with Jewish custom of the time, when a father relinquished control of the family possessions either because of age or death the son got the keys for all he controlled. It is clearly bad teaching that Jesus went to hell and got the keys from Satan. First of all Satan isn’t in hell, Satan wants no part of hell, Satan does not control hell. Satan roams the earth and heaven killing stealing and deceiving he also goes to heaven to accuse the saints (Book of Job, Rev 12). Satan’s end is the Lake of Fire not hell. Rev 20:10. EdB |

3075 | Where in the bible does it say that Jesu | Rev 1:18 | EdB | 147848
smswann The answer to your question is no where in the Bible does it even hint that Jesus went to Hell or Hades to retrieve any key. The implication is that Satan who many believe that he lives in Hades had the power of life and death. This whole assumption is incorrect. First Hades or Hell is the holding place of the dead not the abode of Satan. Satan prowls the earth seeking those he can destroy. Job 1:7 1 Peter 1:8. Satan is not in Hell or Hades nor is he lord over it. Satan wants no part of hell, has no power there and it isn't his fate. His fate is the Lake of Fire. Rev 20:10 Further Satan does not have the final decision in death for God forbid him from taking Job's life, therefore we see God in fact has the deciding power of who dies. Job 2:6. So if Satan never had the keys of death Hell and the grave and Jesus said in Matthew 28:16 that He was given all authority in Heaven and Earth then we must assume God held the keys and because of Jesus' obedience of going to the cross gave them to Jesus. The teaching as you stated it is without scriptural support and shows a weak understanding of the Sovereignty of God and an inflated perception of Satan’s power. And is just plain wrong! EdB |

3076 | John 10:10 Who is responsible for death? | Rev 1:18 | EdB | 236785
The real question why does man have so little trust in God to asked such a question. If we trust God, if we believe God then we have to accept God's promise that He (God) will make all things work to our good if we love Him and are called to His purpose. Rom 8:28. Jesus we are told in Rev 1:18 holds the keys of hades and death. If our understanding of this is correct that means death is Physical death is controlled by Jesus. But death is a result of sin, sin entered this world and one day death will be cast into the Lake of Fire. However until then we have to trust in God. In the death of a young child I have to recall King David's reaction to he death of his son. 2 Samuel 12:15-23 (NASB) 15 So Nathan went to his house. Then the LORD struck the child that Uriah's widow bore to David, so that he was very sick. 16 David therefore inquired of God for the child; and David fasted and went and lay all night on the ground. 17 The elders of his household stood beside him in order to raise him up from the ground, but he was unwilling and would not eat food with them. 18 Then it happened on the seventh day that the child died. And the servants of David were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they said, "Behold, while the child was still alive, we spoke to him and he did not listen to our voice. How then can we tell him that the child is dead, since he might do himself harm!" 19 But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; so David said to his servants, "Is the child dead?" And they said, "He is dead." 20 So David arose from the ground, washed, anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he came into the house of the LORD and worshiped. Then he came to his own house, and when he requested, they set food before him and he ate. 21 Then his servants said to him, "What is this thing that you have done? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept; but when the child died, you arose and ate food." 22 He said, "While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, 'Who knows, the LORD may be gracious to me, that the child may live.' 23 "But now he has died; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me." What is important here is the last verse. "I will go to him." If we trust in God we will spend eternity in the presence of that lost child. Oh what a day that will be! |

3077 | John 10:10 Who is responsible for death? | Rev 1:18 | EdB | 236799
B Michalcik I think my attempt to rectify my first answer was actually worst than my first answer. And I do apologize. What I'm trying to say just isn't coming out right. Let me try again. First God is sovereign and I believe we do not die one second sooner than God allows. Jesus has the Keys of Hades and Death and one day our enemy death will be cast into the Lake of Fire. When sin enter the world so did death, death is a result of sin and unless the Lord returns before we will all die. Why do some die early and some late? We don't always know. This isn't explained to us. But there is one thing we do know our adversary Satan loves for us to get angry at God and question Him. He loves it when a someone curses God for the death of a loved one. While the lost is bitter we must say "I don't understand it or like it but You are God and I will trust in you. The hope I have now is that I will see that child again in heaven. We will spend eternity together and rejoice." Again I hope this answer is more pleasing to you and again I apologize for my first two miserable attempts at this. |

This passage mentions redoing your first works Revelation 2:4-5 (NKJV) 4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place--unless you repent. But it is obviously from the NT. The problem is the word works is used over 250 times and testimony over 98 times |

3079 | why only ten days | Rev 2:10 | EdB | 241834
woodgrace The 3 1/2 years you mention is talking of part of the Great Tribulation which is 7 years long as many teach. The tribulation here could be speaking of a short time of tribulation that all Christian experience. Others see this as the church of Smyrna as representing a church age the period of time for the church from 300AD to aprox 500 AD that suffered persecution under 10 Ceasars of Rome. 1. Nero 2. Domitian 3. Trajan 4. Marcus Aurelius 5. Severus 6. Maximinius 7. Decius 8. Valerian 9. Aurelian 10. Diocletian (the worst) We also know the Christians of Smyrna did suffer horrendous persecution and many were taken to Rome to be burned on stakes to light the gardens of Nero or to die horrendous deaths in the arena. Perhaps the exact answer is found in all three of these. One thing we will know for sure once we come into the presence of the Lord. Praise God |
