3021 | A Question on Greek translation! | 2 Pet 3:10 | EdB | 242513
I am not a translator however this passage has been translated a high number of times by many different translators to say that in fact the earth I will be consumed by fire. Since this translation is done by very experience and highly trained translators I see no reason to question their work.
3022 | Grow in grace? | 2 Pet 3:18 | EdB | 73537
Mommapbs Yes there is a difference. "The" grace was imputed to us for our salvation and teaching each of us to deny ungodliness, worldly lust that we should live soberly, righteously and godly always looking for blessed hope and glorious soon appearing of our Lord Titus 2:11-13. Growing in grace means we are learning these lessons and these attributes are being accomplished in our lives and we are becoming more Christ like. EdB |

3023 | how can we avoid loving the world? | 1 John | EdB | 242039
Let me answer this perhaps a little differently. I personally have a hard time saying I hate sin. What I hate is consequences of sin and I see sin as the deception it is. 1 John 2:16-17 (NKJV) 16 For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. The real problem is the deception that sin is better than God. That is what I hate. Example I can't say I hate pride but if I allow pride to replace God in my life then it is sin. The problem isn't pride it is what I allow it to do in my life that makes me rebel against God's will. |

3024 | Is sinless perfection possible on earth? | 1 John 1:8 | EdB | 228602
While I love and desire your opinions please please provide scripture you feel supports your position or refutes the position of the other side. Why do some say Paul in Romans 7 is talking about his life before salvation rather than after? |

3025 | Is sinless perfection possible on earth? | 1 John 1:8 | EdB | 228641
To everyone I'm not trying to be argumentative. I'm not trying to trick or trap anybody. This is a legitimate question. Can we live in sinless perfection? If not what scripture says that. If yes what scripture says that. As a side question nearly everyone answers the above question with verses out of Romans 6-8. Saying we are free of sin, dead to sin, sin doesn't have dominion over us, we are dead to the law, we are free of the law and etc. My question then becomes what does that mean? We can still sin can we not? We are still tempted are we not? Scripture in 1 Cor 6:9,10 Ephesians 5:5,6 Galatians 5:19,20 lists various sins and seems to say if you are guilty of these you can not get into heaven. So what has changed according to the verses found in Romans 6-8 I use Abraham for an example. He sinned. He was forgiven. He was tempted. He trusted in the Messiah for his salvation. We sin We are forgiven We are tempted. We trust in the Messiah Jesus for our salvation. Now considering Romans 6-8 what is different in our walk than the walk Abraham walked other than Jesus has come and provided the salvation we both needed. |

3026 | Is sinless perfection possible on earth? | 1 John 1:8 | EdB | 228669
On the discussion of the possibility of living in sinless perfection in this world I think everyone has made valid points. Paul's discussion on sin was not given to us as an excuse to continue in sin. But rather to tell us his realization that the more closely he approached a Christ like walk on this earth the more he discovered things within him that needed to be dealt with. He has long pasted the normal things we think of as sin and was now finding sins within him that he wasn't even aware of or had motive for. Nonetheless they were things that he needed to deal with and through Christ's glory and grace he would overcome. In other words the sanctification process is never fully completed in this life and it isn't until we get our incorruptible bodies that we will truly be able to walk in sinless perfection. Is that a fair assessment of this discussion? If not where do I stray? |

3028 | What is God's love | 1 John 2:5 | EdB | 140969
The love of God is unconditional, by that I mean is not based on anything but His love for us. Greek word is Agape which contrasts to what we normally call love. We have an eros type love which is a love between a man and a women or we philo type love which is a love of a brother for another. Both of these are based something that something being; attraction, relationship, filled or preceived need or emotion. However agape love is pure love for no other reason than you love. You may want to do a word study for yourself, get yourself a good Bible word dictionary, a concordance and perhaps a book like Robertson's word picture of New Testament words. EdB |

3029 | How do you surrender to God? | 1 John 2:15 | EdB | 140077
When we talk about surrendering to the God we mean we forsake the lusts of this world. 1 John 2:15-17 (NKJV) 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. How do you do it? You have to make a conscious decision that you would rather serve God than serve the lusts of your flesh. It is not always easy to do but one that is required if we are truly going to surrender to God. EdB |

3030 | SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH | 1 John 2:16 | EdB | 242767
We are not ruled by Satan although he influences us a lot. We are ruled by sin unless Jesus has set us free. We still have to deal with our carnal bodies, our flesh leads us to the three areas of sin 1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world.
3031 | SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH | 1 John 2:16 | EdB | 242782
fytRobert You mentioned Matt 4:8-9, Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, "All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me." First we must understand Satan is a liar. Second was he offering the world or the splendor, adoration and a worship that the Kings of the kingdoms were presently enjoying. Scripture is clear the earth and all that is in it are the Lords. Ex 19:5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. Ps 24:1 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. Ps 50:10-12 For every beast of the forest is Mine, And the cattle on a thousand hills. 11 I know all the birds of the mountains, And the wild beasts of the field are Mine. 12 "If I were hungry, I would not tell you; For the world is Mine, and all its fullness. So no, I don't think the Matt 4 verse is good here, however Ia do like the Fire Bible Commentary on these verses. Satan's kingdom (12:26) is a very organized empire of evil that has authority over "the kingdom of the air" (Eph 2:2, which may simply mean he is not bound to earth), over fallen angels (i.e., those who followed Satan in rebellion against God, 25:41; Rev 12:7), over people who have not accepted Christ's forgiveness and given their lives to him (vv. 8-9; Jn 12:31; Eph 2:2) and over the present world system (Lk 4:5-6; 2Co 4:4; see 1Jn 5:19, note). Satan is not omnipresent (everywhere at the same time), omnipotent (all-powerful) or omniscient (all-knowing), so most of his activity is assigned to demons (8:28; Rev 16:13-14; see Job 1:12, note). Jesus came to earth to destroy the works of Satan (1Jn 3:8), to introduce God's kingdom (i.e., the evidence of his power, authority, purposes and way of life) and to free us from Satan's control (12:28; Lk 4:18; 13:16; Ac 26:18). By his death and resurrection, Christ paid the penalty for sin and overcame its power. This triumph began the defeat of Satan, which will reach its climax at the end of this age (see Rev 20:7-10) and will guarantee God's complete victory over him (Heb 2:14). |

3034 | Does God love everything? | 1 John 4:8 | EdB | 97315
Does God love everything? No! Many things are called abominations by God. things like incest, homosexuality or sodomy, lying, cheating, adultery, uncleanness, offering children to idols and such. God also said He hates divorce. You can look at these scriptures to see what else God doesn't love. Deut. 22:5; Proverbs 3:32; Proverbs 6:16-19; Proverbs 8:7; Proverbs 11:20; Proverbs 12:22; Proverbs 15:8-9; Proverbs 15:26; Proverbs 16:5; Proverbs 17:15; Proverbs 20:10; Proverbs 20:23; Proverbs 21:27; Proverbs 24:9; Proverbs 28:9; Proverbs 29:27 As for Satan since he is God's created, I imagine God heart breaks when He has to deal with Satan. However we can not be certain how God feels about Satan since we are not told. No matter His feelings we know God in the end places Satan in the Lake of Fire. God in His righteousness will also put everyone else there that rejects Jesus. EdB |

3036 | Are all prayers answered? | 1 John 5:14 | EdB | 127151
All these scriptures assure us God hears us and answers our prayers. However the answer may be Yes, No or wait. God is not our sugar daddy that is there to give us our heart desires. He has promised to make all things work to our good. However our good may not what we are praying for. 3037 | sin - death or not | 1 John 5:16 | EdB | 80008
scullards Most theologians and commentators believe John is talking about normal sin which can be forgiven and blaspheming the Holy Spirit which Jesus said there could be no forgiveness from. I imagine your next question will be what is blaspheming the Holy Spirit? It is basically the rejection of Jesus Christ by attributing His power in Holy Spirit to something other than the Holy Spirit. In effect your rejecting Christ which is the only way to salvation. John 3:16 says we must believe to receive eternal life, therefore a rejection of Jesus’ deity leads unto death. EdB |

3038 | Does Islam fit here? | 2 John 1:7 | EdB | 129064
I think it does. I think anyone that thinks Islam is a religion of peace is greatly deceived. The Koran and the teachings of the Islamic prophets clearly state you’re either Muslim or you’re an infidel. The task of an Islamic believer is to convert or kill infidels. It is that simple. I firmly believe Gog of Ezekiel 37 is the spiritual wickedness of Islam who reigns over the land of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal which are basically the Islamic countries north of Israel and south of Russia proper. I think this includes Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Syria, and those little countries that once were in the USSR. |

3039 | Does Islam fit? | 2 John 1:7 | EdB | 129228
Pastor Glenn You asked, "So why does Islam hate Jews? Why does the Koran teach hate towards Jews? Why do they thow out the bible and replace it with the Koran?" In your study I'm surprised you didn't discover the answer. Islam teaches just as you say Ishmael is heir of promise. But they also teach the Jews corrupted the Holy Scriptures by exchanging Isaac for Ishmael in an attempt to cheat the true heirs out of their birthright. They don't reject the Bible they just believe the Jews have corrupted it to make it read the way it does. Therefore they say the Bible is in fact the inspired word of God (Allah in this case) but that Koran supercedes the Bible correcting the changes the Jews made. Therefore the Koran should have precedent any place there appears to be conflict. EdB |

3040 | Is it because we are afraid that the per | 2 John 1:10 | EdB | 74254
mdc14561 This same attitude is the reason many young people marry non believers. These people are trained to hunt for your soft spot, something you question about Christianity. Once they find it they will show their logical answer. The idea is if they can do this often enough a person will start questioning those that say their a cult. If on the other hand you start to hit their soft spot they will be told to have no more contact with you. Have you ever noticed some cultic groups tell their people not to listen to Hank Hanegraaff? Why because their afraid Hank will peel back their onion and expose them and they will lose people. Unless the person is seeking the truth your basically wasting your time. Again nothing is impossible with God. EdB |
