301 | Please help me understand divorce. | 1 Cor 7:1 | justme | 167817
Believer31675: This is one of the most important questions you will most likely have to deal with. I must ask, are each of YOU born again Christians? I am assuming this is the case. Has this man done EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to reconcile with his ex wife? Has it been a year or so from the divorce? Has he gone to professional counseling to work out his grief and work through what issues WERE his fault? NO ONE is blameless. Were there Biblical grounds for the divorce. Were either or both of them Christians when the divorce occured? These questions are vital to work through. If his ex wife is not remarried, you want to be sure beyond a doubt there is no possibility of restoring this broken marriage. Of course if she is remarried there is no way for reconciliation to come about. The time of one year is time for healing to have come about for some. The professional counseling is so important. There is no such thing as just one person being totally at fault. Just being married to the person with many problems is a problem in and of it's self. I am sure there is guilt and anger, and not to admit to it is not a healthy, and may indicate a problem. There could be many issues, if left unresolved, would only carry over into ANY future relationship he would have. If there is even the smallest hint of restoration of this prior marriage, then you MUST step aside and let the Holy Spirit work. You don't mention if there are children involved. If there are children, this will be a lifetime of so much that is going to be there is no way to predict what you will be required to endure. Tred lightly and pray EARNESTLY for the Lord to give you courage, strength and direction. Paul in 1 Corithians give examples of how to deal with these questions. Jesus said that adultery is the only permissible reason for divorce. That does not mean a person has to divorce, but rather it is better to reconcile. Hardness of heart is at the root of all divorces. Biblically if there is no way to restore the marriage, he would be free to remarry, but only to a Christian. I caution you that WHATEVER problems that he had in the last marriage will come again or similar, in your potiential marriage with him. Marriage to someone who has been married before is not to be entered into lightly without seeking a Christian counselor that is willing to spend the time to help you both in this major step. Also keep in mind many churches will not accept you as anything but second class Christians. Which is very sad but very true. These things I have written not out of judgement but out of the reality of living, pastoring, counseling and knowing many couples that have faced these very life-changing questions. May you pray for the Lord's devine wisdom. Your decision will affect many more than you know at this time. justme |

303 | Is baptism required? | John 3:16 | justme | 167131
Welcome to the Forum! This is a question that is often asked. You can go to the Search box and type in baptism and get a wide scope of answers. However, Baptism is an outward confession of inward Change. Jesus said we are to follow His leadership. Jesus was baptized as our example, in which we are to follow. I can not think of a reason that a true believer would not want to follow Jesus's example. When I hear of a believer who has had ample time to be baptized and just does'nt want to, then I have very serious doubts if the person is genuinely saved. There is no reason not to be baptized. I once baptized a lady who was near death, and she so wanted to be baptized. She had no peace until she was baptized. Because of her extreme Unique circumstances and physical condition I sprinkled her as a symbol of her desire to be obedient to the Lordship of Jesus in her life. She was very aware that baptism was being totally under the water. But she was willing to except sprinkling inplace of being fully under water. I was a Baptist Pastor and this caused some resentment from a few in the church I was postoring. I have never regreted doing this for one second. I sencerly hope this helps. Blessings Justme |

304 | Questioning the age of accountability | Bible general Archive 3 | justme | 167048
Welcome to the Forum! This question comes up from time to time, usually by someone who is suffering loss of a young child. I hope this is not you situation, if this is your burden my deepest sympathies are extended to you. Scripture does not state when the age of becoming accountable for our sin is. King Davis stated he would join his son in heaven, when he died as a baby. God is just and a fair Holy Father. Because He is a fair and merciful loving Holy Father, and it is not Hiw will that anyone perish , even more so with those who are unable to understand the full measure of sin or salvation by Jesus Christ. One can not reject Jesus if they can't understand who Jesus is. This stands true for those who are so mentally challenged as well. I take this from John cahpter 3. and the places that Jesus had the little children come to Him. I sincerely hope this helps in some way. Blessings. Justme |

306 | Confronting another about sin | 1 Tim 5:14 | justme | 165541
drcinva: First of all you have made a serious mistake by counseling her at all. Make it a ruel that men counsel men, and women counsel women! You are very foolish to not have refered her to someone who is equipped to counsel and not allow transference of feelings. You had best take heed and run as fas as you can away from all contact from her. There are husbands that might not think twice about beating the heck out of you. You have a serious responsibility in allowing her to become close enough to you to have a "crush". Biblically you are in sin while being intimate with a mans wife, and talking with her and knowing all you do is doing just that. Leave her alone, stay away, and do it NOW! justme |

307 | Is it a sin to be love with your cousin? | 2 Tim 2:15 | justme | 165426
There is no Biblical restriction against first cousins marring. There may be some issues within the families that might be well to consider. Perhaps is there are genetic concerns you might see a Genetic Doctor. Sometimes DNA can be messed up and run in a family tree. For instance Factor Five Laden is a DNA issue that causes blood clots, and if both of you had it in your back ground it would be a serious consideration. Be prayerful, and seek the families blessings, stay pure before the Lord. justme |

309 | Exactly how poor/rich was Joseph and Mar | NT general Archive 1 | justme | 165053
Welcome to the forum Kan! Nazareth at the time was a very poor place, and some have called it a garbage dump. I can see no Biblical evidence that Mary and Joseph were rich in terms of worldy goods. They must have been spiritual mature and closer to the Holy Father than any other humans or the Father would not have allowed them to raise His Son, Jesus Christ. However it may be true that the average person person then was not as well off as our poorest persons now. Gives much to think about! Blessings. Justme |

showalter: I am no "Scholar" however it is my understanding that one chapter is an overview and the other is more specfic. There seems to be no problem as far as I can see, God created creatures first, then man. Woman cane from man. Adam came from Eve. I am not saying mankind as some of the recent poorly translated versiond have so distorted the text. Just to name a few, the New Living Translation. the Message, and perhaps the second worst translation nest to the New World Translation, the TNIV. I am certian there are scholars who might well join in with other remarks. Blessings. Justme |

311 | Is it lawful for women to be preachers? | 1 Cor 14:34 | justme | 163869
Lwaful is one thing, dealing with the legal system, and in our country it is "lawful" However the better question is " Does God call women to be pastors?" Better yet is the question I can answer with assurance. Does God call women into ministry? Yes! I have serious concerns that Biblical instruction is lacking for women being in the position od Pastor. Women in leadership ministries are effective, and I believe Biblical in every position except as Pastor. God forgive me if I am wrong. Blessings. justme |

313 | Continuous Adultery or not? | Matt 5:32 | justme | 163866
dcj: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. You sound like you want to deal with this once and for all, if I understand right. There is always a price we pay for our sin, and often guilt. regret and fear are part of the cost. You don't say if you and your present wife are Christians, I will assume you are. Neithet do you say if your former spouses were Christians either. I will for the sake of an answer for you, assume they were. However in either case the message is the same. Jesus said that you two had hardness of heart. Hardness of heart can be emotional hell. Such hardness kills love, our spiritual lives, and puts a block wall between us and others we love, and the God who loves us so deeply. When we have hardness of heart we can do just about anything sinfull. In very open terms heardness of heart is sin. There several possible considerations I would have you to look at. Deuteronomt 24:1-4 says you can not return back to your former mates. So leaving each other, and reuniting to your former mates is not an consideration. In Malachi 2:14-16, Scripture clearly says divorce, or (putting away) with or without a certificate, is a braking of faith with your mate and God. God says this is a sin which He hates! (Please note God hates all sin, no matter what it is) This sin involves so many people besides just the husband wife. Members of the church that see other Christians divorce are emotionally hurt and often discouraged, even to the point they might well be influenced to divorce their spouse as well. The unargueable point is divorce is serious sin. The guilt of this sin can last a lifetime, and the hurt it causes upon others is very painful and can last for a very long time as well. I am assuming you are wanting to become clean before the Lord and want this sin put behind you both, and live a clean Christian life before the Lord. I hope this is the desire of both your hearts. If you both have not confessed your sin of adultery to the Lord then do so right now! In 1st John 1:9 we are assured if we confess our sin He will forgive and cleanse us. This is His mighty love for us, as we are sinners and the LORD knows our frame is made of dust. There is no one who does not sin. Jesus was the gift of God to save us from our sinful life. I remind you of John 3:16 which is our assurance of His love and Salvation. So if you have not confessed this sin and any others this needs to be done now. Based on the above assumptions, you need to confess your sins to your former mates and ask forgivness. (if they refuse to forgive, that is their choice, and it is between them and the Lord. The Lord may well need to take some time to word in their lives as well.) After you have done the confessing and seeking of forgivness you are to live your lives to please the LORD as the husband and wife you are for each other. Make sure that the LORD is the center of your lives and home. This is ultimately a serious sin, and the fact is God forgives all sin the same way. Confess, repent, and accept the Mercy and unfailing love of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is no other way to be free and enjoy a life of peace and joy of ones salvation. To those who would condemn you, after you have done all the above here are some things to help you both. Please read Romans 8:1-8 tells we are not condemned. Romans 8:31-39 tells us nothing can keep Gods love from us. Then in Romans 12:1-9 this tells us our duty and not to conform to the worlds way of life, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. We all need to be renewed inour Spiritual lives every day we live. With all my heart I wish that you grow in love of the Lord Jesus, and accept His loving steadfast mercy, and forgivenes. Often I remind myseld that Jesus said many times, Go and sin no more; that friend is what I say to you. Blessings. Justme |

314 | Female pastors Scriptural? Ref? | Bible general Archive 3 | justme | 163628
I see this is your first time in Study Bible Forum. You are welcome here. This subjecy has long been debated with scripture for each side's understanding of Scripture. In the end you must be convienced in your own heart. To find what scripture says look in the back of your Bible under Bishop, Deacon, Sheperd, and Overseer. Go and talk with your Pastor, and pray for God to give you wisdom as His Word says in James chapter 1. This is a search for wisdom and is best that you learn the answer for yourself, rather than several giving you conflicting opinions. There are Pastors that are women today, and there have been women pastors in our USA from the early 1800's. However just because a woman filled a position a man would not assume does not mean that a woman being a Pastor is God,s choice. My understanding of Scripture is a woman can serve in most positions in a church. However, I have serious doubts about a woman being a Pastor. I hope this encourages you to study the Word and come to a Biblical position you can defend with Scripture. Blessings. Justme |

315 | What roles can a married woman be in chu | Titus 2:4 | justme | 161046
If you have taken CPE than you are more aware than most, the doors open to you. Having spent many, many, stays in the hospital over the last 38 years, I have been blessed by many chaplains. Often the church I was a member of not one single person cared enough to visit. But, the chaplins were a blessing. The only position that I see as not open to a women is that of Pastor, and I do have some questions about that. Blessings. justme |

316 | women preachers not pastors? | 1 Tim 2:12 | justme | 161045
Devon: The verse you refer to does not ask or answer the question you pose. However, few would argue that some "women" have been gifted with the ability to teach, and yes even preach. But, we tend to cover over this by saying in front of women only. Well friend many a man has listened and been blessed from these women teacher/preachers by listening totapes or CD's made when they spoke. I have heard many women on Dr. James Dobson's radio programs. Some women have been better than some of the men guest speakers. I think Scripture was written at a time when the majority of women were considered low, and even personal property, which we do not consider this now. I do not think the position of Pastor is a position for a woman, but not because they could'nt do the job, but rather is it really the call of God? But any other position is open for women, and they deserve recognitation and ordination. I hope this presents a wider scope of understanding for you. justme |

317 | who should be a pastor? male or female | 1 Tim 3:1 | justme | 159721
The more important question is what does Scripture say about this? When seeking this answer it is important to be able to see how much culture had a part in what Scripture says. I would encourage you to look at Denominations that have women as pastors. Are these denominations that accept homosexuality, whats their view on is Scripture without errors? This topic has been debated before, and perhaps women in ministry might be a better topic than "who should be a pastor? male or female." I believe, women have long been the missionaries that have served in foreign lands with only the call of God, and no ordination. We allow women to be responsible for our health as doctors, surgeons, proffessors, diplomats, senators, lawyers, judges, pilots, ceo's, astronauts, soldiers, and the list is never ending. Yet there are denominations that will not allow a woman to minister as an adult Sunday School Teacher, usher, trustee, just to name a few positions. However when it's time to serve the babies in diapers, and clean their bottoms, most generally men are above such "ministry". I have heard it said if there was not a "man to fill the position, it would stay empty." This does not seen Biblical to me, at least as I read Scripture. I am not a liberal, nor a radical for reforming the church. I just think Scripture has been used wrongly to elevate men, and let women carry a heavier burden of load of ministry. There often is little or no recogination in titles or respect for womens wisdon and calling to serve where God where a woman would be more effective if we would only allow women to serve in the full capacity God has given them. The real problem lies in our culture holding to the Jewish tradition of male authority and domination, rather then equal servents of Christ Jesus. I have expressed my understanding of Scripture, with no intention of offending, or causing anyone grief. I would draw attention to, what often is overlooked. The New Testament records many women with authority: Phoeby, Euodia, Syntyche, Prisca, possibly also Stephana, Tryphosa, Chloe, Lydia, Mark's mother, Nympha, and Apphia. A close study of these women is more than worth while when considering the role of "women in ministry." Justme |

318 | Alternative incarnation? | Bible general Archive 2 | justme | 151728
Asken: This is a serious question that often does not get the attention of God seekers, until they are trying to really understand who Jesus was. In order for Jesus to be devine and fully human, and for the Holy Father to accept Jesus's blood sacrafice of Himself on the Cross for our sins, the virgin birth has to be factual. If Jesus was not concieved by the Holy Spirit, and if Mary was not a virgin when Jesus was born, then there is no such thing as salvation and we are dead in our sins. There are no other possiblities, either the Gospels of Matthew and Luke are true, or they are a lie. This is the part of faith that brings us to the point to either say yes I believe or I reject Jesus Christ. Every believer in Jesus has had to make this choice to become a Christian. Without the virgin birth, the Christian belief falls appart. That is how important the incarnation is. There is even more that hindges on the incarnation,if the Bible is not completely true than we have been deceived and are to be pittied most of all. I personally know in whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that the Bible is Truth without error and Jesus was born of the virgin Mary, and He was fully Devine and fully human. That Jesus was the complete and final payment for everyone's sins, for whom ever will believe and trust in Jesus as their Lord. I would really like to hear from you about your thoughts on what I have said. Blessings. justme |

319 | Well, is it is good that this is restric | Job 31:1 | justme | 149603
Curtis: You have been given Scripture. How many more do you want? As there was no photography in Jesus's time, do you expect a verse that says not to take pictures of women in the nude? You are playing games! Even children not much older than five know not to take off their clothes and let someone take pictires posed in errotic positions. Shamefully, I did see you crap, so I do not know why you keep saying this is art. When jesus says not to look at a woman with lust in your heart, does this not cover you nude photos? You have come to suck more into your web site. You are in deed under to power of the wicked evil one. I pray some how you will find Christ as your Lord. You know what is pure and right, yet you play in the muck and mire of satans pit of sexual sin. Repent for you will one day stand before Christ and give an account of what you are doing and have done. Think about it. Justme |

320 | denominations. | Eph 4:3 | justme | 148729
EdB(:- The thing that comes to my mind is the illustration about the cords of three abing stronger. It pains me deeply when I see a couple go to the mission field on just people sending them individule support. Often their funding drops below 50 percent, and they must return to their supporters and beg for more support so they can return to the mission field. This is not so with denominations. Most always thes missionaries are fully supported, and money is not the big foccus, but rather they can devote more of their to the ministry God has called them to. Having been a part of the American Baptist and Southern Baptist, these denominations do what I feel is a better way to support missions, and other ministries. Ed, I do not think this is the only way, but for me I feel it is the most effective way. Blessings. justme |
