281 | Do we sleep , awaiting Jesus' return? | Phil 1:23 | justme | 62948
1Thessalonians 4:13 to 18. These verses refer to those who die in Christ. The words "those who have fallen asleep" are mentioned here and other passages. Does thia mean when we die that we are in a state of sleep until the coming of the Lord. For some this is called grave sleep. I am aware that no matter if there is grave sleep or as Hebrews 9:27 says "And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgement." NASB Even this verse can mean that AFTER, which who knows when after is, could mean when Christ returns, then it is after. Please answer this only with scriptural back up. This is important to me, and please take time in answering it. Thank you for your answer. justme |

283 | Saturday a day of worship? | Col 2:16 | justme | 225180
The progran "The Jewish Jesus" is very interesting to see how Jews worshiped in time of Christ. Is there any reason not to use Saturday as the day of worship instead of Sunday. Can either day of worship not be justified in Scripture? I know why we worship on Sunday, but can Saturday be justified as well? |

284 | Christian internet provider? | 1 Thess 4:5 | justme | 201559
In Matthew 5, Jesus says we are not to look at a woman with lust! I am with att.net as a internet provider. This orning in their advertizement on the home page was what I call what Jesus said is sinful. I am dumping this provider ASAP. Is there a Christian internet provider? We can not get dsl here. This might not seem like a Bible question, but avoiding sinful places sure is. Thanks. justme |

287 | HOW DO WE HELP THOSE IN NEED? | 1 Tim 2:3 | justme | 214440
These are very hard times for many people, and Christians as well. We have started sharing food with those who are struggling just to pay for housing, utilities and food and gas. This has opened a door for us to show our good deeds and Christian love for our neighbors. We open the door to those people in need with "AMISH FRIENDSHIP BREAD". We are deeply concerned at the number of older persons in serious financial need. Their spiritual need is even greater as we have discovered. All of the people we have been able to meet with do not qualify for EBT cards, which is the new food stamp program. Most all make too much for financial State help. Seven hundred dollars is all our state allows for a couple to make and get a little help. Local food pantries are maxed out, even some churches have financial shortages as well. My question is has anyone found another way to open the door to reach those in deep need. We don't just see this in unsaved people but many Christians are living in faith depending on the Lord for their needs day by day. We live in an area that basically is settled by hard working people, or those who are retired. Many who are retired can no longer live on what retirement brings in. We personally are blessed and the Lord is good. We are looking into ways to help we have not thought of. We are touched by the saying, No one cares how much you know; Until they know how much you care. This is not orignal to us we read it some where. Any ideas would be gladly be appreciated. justme |

288 | Women, be silent, or be shamed? | 1 Tim 2:11 | justme | 208295
Immanuelsown: Are women permited to speak in your church? Do you think Paul might have been speaking to a cultural problem at that time and specific church, or is this a blanket statement ment for today? Do you think husbands today teach their wives obedience to them as leaders, and keep their wife in subjection? How do men today see what shaming their wife is? Blessings. justme |

289 | Biblical era culture, abd Understanding | 1 Tim 2:12 | justme | 161265
Hello Doc: I think it is interesting that "devon" asked the inital question, and no resonse has been made by that person. Oh well. But just to add some more thought to the issue of Scripture and Transculture, I have a serious question. If we follow your interpretation of how culture should cross the culture of time and years, than why not use the customs of the time of Jesus, ore even if you like go the the culture of Paul while in Rome? Much of the time period of Paul and Jesus had dietatary laws and personal, male and female cleansing regarding husband wife and their private love life. Then there was the womens laws regarding the birth of a male or female child etc. My point is there was an itermixing of religious laws and the ones of governing authorities. We live in a time when women have gained a rightful position in many areas, and some areas have gone beyond what is considered by some, to be barbaric, by killing their own child while in the womb. The numbers of baby killings is in the multi-millions just in the United States! The group I feel that has been so reluctant to even consider the possibility of the effect of past culture, on the role women have in the church, are those who fail to see the influence the culture of those who penned Scripture, while under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Yes, I agree there is a "slippery slope" in attempting to understand what is cultural and what is to be "for believers in all time,". I do not want to appear to be unorthodox or liberal, but I personally have no desire to greet my brothers and sisters in Christ with a holy kiss. I have used some very simple illustrations, but it does get more complecated as we fully study the Scripture from the view point of, what did it mean to those it was written? What was the history of the time it was written, and how do I apply this to me today? These questions are something we must do to totally understand Scripture. Now there are many passages this would not apply, as the issue is totally clear with no added understanding will change a thing. I am sure what I have said is redundant, but none the less worth while to recall every once and a while. Blessings to you. justme |

290 | Is this ok? | 1 Tim 3:1 | justme | 235027
Doc: My wife and I watch and support Precepts For Life. I have seen men in Kay Arthur's classes she teaches. Would it be more in line with what Scripture teaches for Kay to restrict her teachings to women only? Then there are her tours to the Holy Land. Is the fact that men attend these trips too. Not very often have I found a teacher that is able to communicate to such wide scope of men and women. I am not sure if Kay speakes in churches on Sunday's as a guest in the pulpit. But if she did would that be unbiblical? Now that David Arthur is at the helm, this may open some doors that were closed before. Kay's teaching is on parr with Bible College teaching. However Seminary took Scripturs to a much deeper level where sentence structure was broken down so deeply at times I found it difficult to follow how some translations came up with the word order that was in there translation. The translation I found the hardest to understand was the 1985 NIV. May I add a word of praise to THE LOCKMAN FOUNDATION and for Dewey Lockman For following the direction of Holy Spirit in making (as far as I am concerned) the most accurate English translation there is today. We are so blessed. Well I might as well thank our special host for this Syudy Bible Forum. "The one who is taught the Word is to share all good things with the one who teaches him." The Holy Spirit teaches me when I read the Bible, that's how I see it anyway. At this time of year I am reminded how wonderful our LORD is. We have the BIBLE which i Love so very much, The Holy Spirit to help instruct us, and the Lord Jesys Christ whom we owe our very breath we breathe, The Blood Jeses shead in our place for my and yiur sine, and because He loves us so much he has a place waiting for us. I cab just barely take it all in. I can say nothing more but to add with the deepest Love.... PRAISE THE lORD. justme |

293 | Resurrection Day or easter ? | 2 Tim 2:4 | justme | 221691
This is my yearly statement, question. Why does the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ have to be linked with the goddess estar who was a symbol of fertility? Is using the word easter, for the Lord Jesus Christ and His Resurrection not a disgrace? Does not the world think easter is for candy, and baby rabbits and chickens? Why do Christians not call Resurrection day by what this Holy day really is? This is a very serious concern of mine so if you post an answer use a Scripture to post an answer. justme |

294 | Reading too much into C S Lewis ? | 2 Tim 2:15 | justme | 164115
There is much coverage of C. S. Lewis, his life, and his writtings of late. I am concerned that to much is being drawn out of the stories he made up, especially in relating it to Jesus. I am just not sure that so much of Christ was intended to be assumed nearly fifty years later. Perhaps, am I wrong? I heard his step son on PBS say that smoking and drinking were acceptable for Christians. I have serious problems with ever saying smoking is not totally bad for our health and not a habit I would ever defend. Could someone please help me to better understand this confussion. If at all possible use Scripture to explain your understanding. |

296 | A better English Bible ? | 2 Tim 3:16 | justme | 166399
I have recently bought a ESV and find it delightful! I have been compairing it with the updated NASB. The ESV seems to favor the KJV and the sweet flow of words are beautiful. The NASB has words that seem to have a deeper meaning at times which really touch my heart. For me I was reluctant to buy a ESV because it was just one more English translation, which I really did not need. I am so glad that other users of the ESV have said how they have learned to rely on the ESV, and encouraged the use of the ESV. Now I have the ESV, the NASB, and the NIV together as I study. I would encourage others to look and see if this might help in their Bible study as well. Has anyone else found a English Bible that has helped as much as the three I mentioned? |

297 | KJV only believers. | 2 Tim 3:16 | justme | 197626
In dealing with brothers and sisters in Christ with kindness and love, I have a question. How do you deal with those who believe that the only inspired text is the KJV? I am looking for a way to deal with this in the kindness way, but one in which leaves them something to think about. Thanks very much. justme |

298 | Help, parents need encouragement! | 2 Tim 3:16 | justme | 201362
For the third time I am asking for help. Please, I am looking for a Christian author who deals with parents of adult children, who have turned against their parents. The parents are in ministry and the children profess to be Christian. There is massive disrespect, and verbal abuse, as we have been told. We have given Bible Chapters, and that has been received well. But we would like to give them a book written by a Christian author. Does anyone have an idea of such a book? justme |
