223 | Twisted Scripture, what do we do? | John 17:3 | justme | 161058
I purchased a TNIV and have spent much time reading it so I can speak with some first hand knowledge. Several of us in this forum previewed the TNIV NT before it was put into print and circulation. I personally find the TNIV unacceptable, but interesting to see where liberal teaching is headed. The bad press the TNIV has received is justified. However, why have the New Living Translation and the Message also received equal the negative reviews? Gender Nutral translations are sneeking in, with the aid of good recognizable Christian's of noterity. Just as there are versions which have hidden motives, there are versions that place the male form of words when it is not correct to do so. Dr. James Dobson recently had a 2 part teaching about the TNIV, and in Vol 28 No 3 and 4 of 2005 of the CHRISTIAN RESEARCH JOURNAL Dr. James White has a two part article "BIBLE VERSIONS: THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY". Once again I ask how many English Versions of the Bible do we need? On the James Dobsom program the guest who helped translate the ESV said the only versions he reccomended were the ESV, NASB, NKJV, and teh KJV. I was concerned that the NIV was not even considered as one to use. However in a large percentage of churches the NIV is widely used as their churches Bible of choice. Is the TNIV a wolf in sheeps clothing? what should we as Christians do to show our concern about translations who alter the text to reflect gender nutral or other attempts to bring a bias out in twisted scripture? 224 | I am not sure what my mistake is? | John 17:17 | justme | 147567
Searcher56: Perhaps I do not fully understood the Forum rules. I felt quite sure I was careful to avoid either of these positions, as I personally agree with neither, so I took my solidly nutral position. Nothing I said, that I am aware of, could be used by either those of the Calvinism or Arminianism belief. I believe I have been totally cooperative in not doing anything but quoting snippets of John 10. Surely my note does not attempt to do anything but encourage this man, from taking anything but Scripture to make up his own mind. I am not intentionaly or by accident trying to undermine the Forum rules, and I am unaware if that I ever have. I have the utmost respect for the beliefs and traditions of the fellow Forum members (or whatever the proper name for Forumites). Would you please re-read my note and tell me where I, as you understand it, neglected to obey the Forum rules, please? I ask this with the utmost respect and kindness. Blessings. justme |

225 | the SBF what can we do? | John 17:17 | justme | 242276
Study Bible Forum Members: I have a very serious concern for our forum. Over the years I have noticed the activity of the SBF dwindling down with very little activity. I have wondered why so many of those who were once very active are seldom posting any longer. I hope you too have pondered the same question. I have tried to think of ways that I can stimulate activity on the SBF. I came to a few points that I have noticed what might help. Sometimes we forget to welcome new visitors to the forum. At times we are quick to refer visitors to the SEARCH box rather than giving a personal response. I think this is less welcoming and a little lazy, the quick way out. I seldom refer to the SEARCH box. How often do we open a dialogue to some really hot topic listed some place we visited. The Christian Post is a good place to find some hot topics. Maybe bring up some issue with your denomination, or other religion. I feel we have a golden opportunity here to at least open the door for someone to question their self about their eternal destination. I watch WRETCHED on NRB tv at night. Then there is WAY OF THE MASTER with Ray Comfort that is a dymanic evangelist that teaches open street preaching that I have learned a lot from. this would be an interesting topic to dialogue as well. I find more information to talk about there. Lockman has been very kind to allow this forum to continue, and I sincerely feel they would be pleased to see more activity here. I wish we could have a space for prayer requests as well. I once belonged to a Christian forum that allowed all kinds of junk with restrictions only on people who were more fundamental in their theology. I was kicked off and that was very upsetting to me. We have guidelines and they are for the most part quite open to most. If anyone wants to email me go to my user info and I would be pleased to hear from you. I know I am an old fashion man, I turn 70 this month, but I want to think young and open. I would love to see the SBF become a beehive of activity. justme |

227 | Help for hurting parents? | John 21:22 | justme | 201356
There is a Minister and his wife, who are deeply discouraged. Their adult children have turned their back on their parents. From what I know they raised their children as Christian parents should. The adult children "have been cruel and heartless". They asked if there was a Christian writter who has dealt with this. Does anyone know of a book (other than the Bible) I could refer them to? justme |

228 | Is this not the Trinity? | Acts | justme | 49502
The word Trinity is not found in scripture. However, there was a form of benediction back when Paul was alive! Look at ll Corinthians 13:14. All "three" are mentioned by name, underline it in red in you Bible. "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all." NASB updated 1999. Now all three are mentioned that's pretty definative for me. Please do not ask me to explane the GODHEAD! A verse a old man shared with me long ago is Deuteronomy 29:29 " The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law." NASB updated 1999. For me the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are part of the "secret things" that belong to God. I accept this on FAITH as I do that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, that Jesus died for my sins, and Jesus rose from the dead, and intercedes for me today. I often pray as the verse in the N.T. says I DO BELIEVE; HELP ME WITH MY UNBELIEFE! Can anyone add anything to help explaining this better? agape. justme |

230 | Half brothers of Jesus saved? | Acts 1:14 | justme | 139775
A few weeks ago the topic of the half brothers of Jesus was brought up. The question was about his family rejecting Jesus as Lord. The opinion was no evidence that His half brothers ever made Jesus their Lord. After some Scripture seeking I came to a better conclusion, and I hope it helps those who were part of this dialogue. Acts 1:14 "These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers." NASB I am not sure but I think it possible that if there were half sisters they well might not have counted as women were low of the status as humans. Any thoughts on this, I would be pleased to hear from others. justme |

234 | Resurrection Sunday or easter? | Acts 12:4 | justme | 113120
Why do we continue to call Resurrection Day Easter? Estar was a fertility goddess used by pagans, and there is a direct relationship with easter egg's and the hunt for these. This is my personal gripe at the Leadership of the Church today for allowing this to go on and on not calling this most Holy of day's by Resurrection Day. We have Ash Wendsday, Good Friday, why not Resurrection Sunday? Am I the only one who finds this "easter" so very offensive? I would like to here from others that feel the same way I do, please. justme |

240 | Why not Baptize as Jesus said to? | Acts 19:5 | justme | 107856
Matthew 28:20 "Go therefor and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and t6he Son and the Holy Spirit." These are the words of Jesus Christ, and His directions. If Jesus Himself told us what to say and do, could anyone tell me how there could be any reason not to follow this to the letter?
