241 | Did He complete the Old Testament? | Bible general Archive 3 | skccab | 192322
Hi Searcher, I'm sure that you know that of the 5 major sacrifices only 2 had to do with sins. And God did provide Himself a Lamb for Passover and Yom Kippur sacrifices (though I believe we should still observe the days). My main problem (and I would imagine many other people's) is the use of the terms "forever," "continual," "perpetual" in these verses (and there are other verses, these I just happened to have read over the weekend). Lev 23:14 And ye shall eat neither bread, nor parched corn, nor green ears, until the selfsame day that ye have brought an offering unto your God: it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. ev 23:41 And ye shall keep it a feast unto the LORD seven days in the year. It shall be a statute forever in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month. Lev 24:3 Without the veil of the testimony, in the tabernacle of the congregation, shall Aaron order it from the evening unto the morning before the LORD continually: it shall be a statute forever in your generations. Lev 24:9 And it shall be Aaron's and his sons'; and they shall eat it in the holy place: for it is most holy unto him of the offerings of the LORD made by fire by a perpetual statute. Cheri |

242 | Jonah and Jesus | Psalm | skccab | 192236
Hey Ursus57, I'm glad you got the verses, maybe tonight I can find some from John (that would be interesting). But I'm going to suggest that you post the question about Jonah as a type to the forum and let some of the others (far more knowledgeable than I) answer it for you. :-) Blessings Cheri |

243 | onset of despair in early adulthood | Rom 8:28 | skccab | 192221
Vinodh, Lionheart and Azure have both given you very good answers. I would just like to give you my 2cents worth. I too, have been unemployed at times. It absolutely is no fun. It can leave you feeling useless - But there are things you can do - while you are looking for paid employment - give some of your time to helping other people. When someone told me to do that 20 years ago, I thought that there was absolutely nothing I had to give - but it turned out I did. I was able to help Spanish speaking adults learn to read and write English! And through that activity I found a paying job. God has given every one of His children a talent,a gift. Every one of us holds a miracle in our hands - we just need to hold out our hands to someone else to find it. Is there a hospital or clinic near your home? Go there and read to children. Maybe there is an elderly person in your area who has no one and would love someone to just come by and sit and talk to them once in awhile. When you seek to fill other peoples needs, your own needs seem to just get taken care of. God does not see any willing person as "unfit." He has a place and a work for everyone. :-) Col 3:15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to the which also ye were called in one body; and be ye thankful. Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts unto God. Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. These 3 verses at first were very hard for me. I found it hard to find things to give thanks for. But then I realized I had breath and a voice to sing and then legs to move and dance, and then arms and hands to reach out and hold and hug. Now I can't stop giving thanks. God is so good. And He loves you. And I join Azure, and will be praying for you. Cheri |

245 | can anyone here help a seeker | Revelation | skccab | 192062
Hi Lucciola, As an older believer, please let me give you some advice - Learn about your Lord. Read the Old Testament accounts about how He delivered His people and all the wonders He did for them. Read the Gospels and learn of Him as people knew Him. Read the book of the Acts and the Letters and learn how He delivers His people today. Let the book of the Revelation rest for now. There will be time enough for it later, when you know the One Who delivered it to John. It's very difficult to delve into something hidden when you don't yet know that which is revealed. Blessings Cheri |

246 | God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit one person? | Col 2:9 | skccab | 191940
Hi Cmorgan, Welcome to the Family and the Forum! It's such a joy to see my Family grow and grow. Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God. Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. Joh 14:8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Joh 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? Joh 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. Mar 12:28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? Mar 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: Yes, they are one. I'm sure someone else on the Forum will fill in what I have not been able to supply. The only way I can attempt to explain it is like this: In God's eyes: man unmarried equals 1 woman unmarried equals 1 That man and that woman marry each other equals 1. They are two, separate, but one flesh. I pray this helps get you started, but the concept of 3 individuals, separate, being One is just beyond our finite comprehension. Cheri |

Hi Justme, Whem I bring someone into the fold I see to it that they have a Bible (if not, I give them one), and that they know my phone number. The rest is up to the Father. But I have found a nice website that might be helpful. Would like any feedback on this site (if anyone knows that it's bad or not). http://www.allaboutthejourney.org/is-the-bible-true-aatj-1b3e.htm Cheri |

251 | use of numbers in the bible | Bible general Archive 3 | skccab | 190957
Hi MTO I'm not sure of the value of numbers as used in the Christian Bible myself, but the Hebrew language puts emphasis on different letters and numbers. There is one site that is not terribly confusing and quite interesting and it might answer your questions: www.hebrew4christians.com Read it with a grain of salt and enjoy the journey :-). cheri |

253 | Searching for the truth | John | skccab | 190116
God's morning to you FytRobert, You have been given numerous clear, concise answers to your question about praying in Jesus' name. It appears you have taken your stand, and you are not wrong (nor are any of the fine folks who have given you their answers). It's perfectly alright to end your prayers with "in Jesus' name" and it's perfectly alright not to do so. What isn't alright is why you are doing it. Only you and your heavenly Father will know if you're doing it because you feel bound to do so and fear you won't be heard if you don't, or because you just simply love saying that precious Name. (And if you do feel bound and you have fear of not being heard, please, please speak to your pastor.) You also stated that He is known by many names and asked which name to use. He has only one name - in English it is Jesus, in Hebrew Yeshua. He has many titles: Christ, Messiah, Counsellor, King of Kings, Lord of Lords and so on. Stand in the Liberty He has given you, Cheri |

254 | How was God YHWH called in prayer? | Matt 6:9 | skccab | 190082
Hi 00123, I believe some of the names used are Elohim, Elohay, and El Elyon. There are many (about 30) names that describe attributes of Adonai, and it doesn't seem unreasonable that these attribute/names might be used in prayer according to what was being desired. If they were desiring sustenance, they might have used Jehovah Jireh (Gen. 22:14 - The Lord sees/provides); if they needed to be saved from an enemy they might have used the attribute Elohay Yishi (Ps. 25:5 - the God of my salvation); if they were being falsely accused or been misused they might have used the attribute/name Elohay Mishpat (Isa. 30:18 - the God of Justice). They could use these (and the others) in praise and worship as well. Do a study of the attribute/names in the O.T., they are fascinating. If this helped answer your question and you would like more of the attribute/names feel free to check my profile and email me, I'd be happy to send you a list. blessings cheri |

255 | Whose heavenly Father is God (Restated) | Bible general Archive 3 | skccab | 189992
Hi Little Butch, As far as I can see, God the Father, had His purpose in the Israelites. He was not known in a personal way by the other peoples of the day, they worshipped idols and whatever else struck their fancy. Jehovah was doing a work in His people that would culminate in Messiah. Where it impacted His people and His promises to them He would reveal Himself to some outside of His nation, but we are not given that much information. How they perceived Him, how they spoke to Him, we don't know (or I haven't found it yet). I find that the Old Testament is God's story of His people's journey to that upper room on the day of Pentecost (and for anyone who is not of the Jewish heritage - it has become our story too). I'm very new to all this. But it appears to me that that is one of the things Jesus did. He showed to all who would see that God is not far away, He is ever as near as a Father's heart can be. Deu 18:18; Jn. 8:28; Job 9:32-33; 1Tim. 2:5; Col. 1:20-21; Isa. 59:16; Mat. 10:32; Rom. 5:10; 2Cor. 5:18-21 There are actual scriptures that state that God is no longer afar off, but I cannot find them. I know someone else on this forum will be able to provide them for you. But I pray this will get you started on your search. There will be others here who will supply more information for you. cheri |

256 | Whose Heavenly Father is GOD? | Bible general Archive 3 | skccab | 189916
Hi Little Butch, There are many more knowledgeable than myself on this forum but let me get you started here: Exod. 4:22-23 is the first place I can think of where God speaks of Himself as Father. Exo 4:22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh: Thus saith the LORD: Israel is My son, My first-born. Exo 4:23 And I have said unto thee: Let My son go, that he may serve Me; and thou hast refused to let him go. Behold, I will slay thy son, thy first-born.' - So, it looks like it began with the Hebrews (being the Chosen people), but is all inclusive. God is the Creator of all, therefore, He is the Heavenly Father of all, even those who don't know Him. Stand in His Grace Cheri |

257 | Scripture reference to forgive self | 1 Pet 5:6 | skccab | 189431
Hi Pat, InGodITrust said it right. I just wanted to add a scripture or two. Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. and 1Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Don't let that old liar the devil convince you that you are not forgiven for the times when you blow it. You are. Stand in His blessings cheri |

260 | Books for a high-tean girl to read | Deut 6:7 | skccab | 189088
hi 00123, Many of the larger Christian book stores have a fiction section including an area for teens. You might look into some of those titles. They range from mysteries to friendships to teenage romance situations. And of course, there's always non-fiction. I remember as a girl how awe struck I was reading about Corrie Ten Boom. And Joni. Hope this helps somewhat cheri |
