181 | ... | Eph 2:15 | skccab | 211201
Shalom BradK, The word used in Rom. 10:4 that was translated "end" is telios which means "goal." Goal is not necessarily an end of something. As you courted your wife, your "goal" was marriage. Did reaching that goal cause you to end your courtship, or did it just deepen your lifelong goal of courting your wife? To me, the path to reaching that goal is to do as God commands, and for the most part, as long as you put the Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might and Love your neighbor as yourself into visible action, then you'll pretty much fulfill all the rest of the Torah, with a few exceptions. Those exceptions are very easily fulfilled because I'm grateful my Father redeemed me from the grasp of sin and death and I love Him. Speaking the Truth in Love also :o) Cheri |

Shalom Ovadyah, Welcome to SBF. I hope you stay around and study with us. Your choice of screen name tells me that you already KNOW that Rabbi Sha'ul/Paul said no such thing!! It's just that we've been taught to read it that way. :o) If you wish to talk further offline, you are more than welcome to email me (it's in my user profile) Cheri |

185 | Am I ignorant | 1 Cor 12:1 | skccab | 211144
Dear Jeff, Well put together post, well done. I, for one, come from the opposite direction, being a part of the charismatic "movement," then somewhat moving away from it. I don't in any way though think that the gifts have ceased. I think, like someone else posted earlier, that the people's faith has faltered, and therefore the gifts fail to work. After all, wasn't it our Lord who said in Mat. 8:13 "...as you have believed, so be it done to you..."? Maybe our prayer should be "Lord, I believe; help You my unbelief" Mark 9:24 Cheri |

Dear Marigee, I'm assuming this was for me, since I'm the Torah lady :o). (For some reason, I'm not getting email notifications, haven't in almost 2 weeks.) You're right, you're finding this forum was no accident. There are no coincidences in God's world. You are now among some very godly, knowledgeable, spirit-filled folks. Stay with them and they'll make your journey quite joyful. In other words, stick around and learn with all of us!! It's a pleasure to have you here. Cheri |

Keliy, afternoon, I can say good morning and good evening in Hebrew but I don't know the word for afternoon - maybe I should go back to sleep!!! lol Actually, I usually use the picture of marriage for the bible, as it begins in Genesis with a marriage between God and man, and of a man and a woman, then we see a picture of a marriage between God and a people, and it ends with the marriage of all marriages in Revelation. Thank you for the encouragement. Much to my chagrin, I sometimes fail to realize that salvation is not a given with everyone, I'm trying to remember this more :o) I did say it was the story of our redemption???? Cheri |

Good morning Marigee, shalom, Welcome to the Forum. First of all, you can just type in the "search" box on the upper right of this page, adam, eve, cain, able wives and you will get lots of posts to choose from to read. The main answer that you will get tho is that the boys married the girls of Adam and Eve, and this continued until the earth was nicely populated. There could be no other way. God "created" only the one man, and then made/created one woman from him Gen. 1:26-29 and 2:7, 21-25. As you read the Bible, it's easy to forget that it is not just a history of a people. From Genesis to Revelation, it's the Gospel of our Messiah, the Good News that God loves us. Not everything is addressed. It's a journey from the beginning of life to the Son of God to the end of life as we know it now. It's the story of our Savior, and our redemption. Cheri |

189 | SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 211125
Shalom FytRobert, That is a pretty big order since there are at least 4 different views. First of all though, God is not limited to a check-off list. He can come back any time He so chooses. :o) YEA!!!!!! One big event to me is Ezek. 37 where the houses of Ephraim and Judah become one house again. This began in March 2005 when the little groups of Israelites who had been claiming to be members of this or that "lost" tribe of the house of Israel (Ephraim) were verified by the powers that be in the land of Israel and were allowed to come home. (I have no idea what Israel's criteria is, but I would love to know it if anyone out there does.) Sadly, there are still some groups out there that do indeed fit the bill but they have also accepted their Messiah and Israel won't let them in the land. We need to pray for these people. Pre-tribs believe that He can come any time now, before the first 3 1/2 yrs of the tribulation, which is a good peaceful time. Mid -tribs believe that He will come about midway thru the tribulation, in which case the antigod dude will show himself, the temple in Jerusalem will be built (among other things to happen). Post-tribs believe that He won't come till the end of the 7-yr tribulation. Preterists believes He came back in 70CE and we are now in the midst of the "1000-yr millenial" (eh hem) reign. Which view are you interested in? Narrow it down and it will be easier to give you some sort of answer. Cheri |

Shalom sirhighsmith, There is another bible out there that I've not seen talked about on this forum so far. If you particularily like the feel of the KJV language but have a bit of trouble with it (like me, lol) there is a bible called KJVER King James Version Easy Reading. It basically only changes the thees ,thous, seests, knoweths, etc and the really archaic words. ALL the words attributed to God and/or Jesus are in red from Gen. thru Rev. (and to me, that's a big help, especially in the prophets!!). Just go to Christian Discount Bookstore and type in The Sword or Whitaker House Publishers and you'll find it, it costs about 30 dollars. Also, the New King James is good, and so is the NASB. Cheri |

194 | Kill your brother and drink strong drink | James 2:10 | skccab | 211056
Pete, I left that part out on purpose, thinking you would probably see your error. Since you didn't, here it is. You seem to have missed the qualifying portion of the verse. Deut. 14:24 states "...if the way be too long...; or if the place be too far..." Now, it goes without saying that we cannot take our tithes (there at at least 3 of them) or our free-will offerings to the temple, so we'll work with what we do have - virtually a church per every other intersection nowadays (most places, at least 1 within any given mile), but, even if you're really waaaaaay in the boondocks, all that is needed is a phone call, or a mail courier - there is absolutely NO EXCUSE for not getting your tithes and offerings to where they are supposed to go. Sorry, to blow that one down for you. :o( Seriously, read the New Testament first. Once you have read the Gospels and letters, you'll be able to read the front portion of the book with much better understanding - your Lord and Savior is all over the Hebrew scriptures. But if you don't know Him, you won't recognize Him any better than did the majority of Israelites of His day. Have fun learning about our King Who is soon coming Cheri |

Pete, I left that part out on purpose, thinking you would probably see your error. Since you didn't, here it is. First off, you missed the qualifying portion - too far. Deut. 14:24 states "...if the way be too long...; or if the place be too far..." Seeing as how there is virtually a church most anywhere nowadays, and if you're really in the boondocks, all that is needed is a phone call - there is absolutely NO EXCUSE for not getting your tithes and offerings to where they are supposed to go. Pete, I meant to add that maybe it would be better to read the New Testament first, Matthew is great, John is just....wonderful isn't a good enough word for it, but it will have to do. Acts, oh golly, you'll cry when you read the last chapter cos you want it to go on and on and on. Have fun Cheri |

198 | Kill your brother and drink strong drink | James 2:10 | skccab | 211041
Pete, Is there someone you're really wanting to kill? If so, please speak with your pastor about your problem. If not, then why are you carrying on so? The Old Testament is wonderful to read. But in some areas, you must remember the laws were given to a people that were a nation unto themselves, whether in the wilderness or in their own land. Their ONLY law was God, nothing and no one else. For the most part, Pete, man's laws are not that much different from God's. And where they are a bit different, I'm not too terribly concerned about whether or not someone leading me astray to another god will be killed or not - ain't no body gonna be leading this King's kid astray, so all can live. :o) Maybe it would be better if you get to KNOW your Lord before delving into the Torah (the first 5 books of the Bible). It can be confusing. :o) Cheri |

Pete, We are also told to abide by the laws of our land. So unless I was on an island with only those who choose to live that way, I would have to say that my city, state, and national law frowns on individuals taking that particular law into their own hands. There will be a day when we once again will live under God's theocracy, and He probably won't change that law (that's just my opinion) but until then, you'd best just walk away from that particular brother :o) Shalom Cheri |

200 | Kill your brother and drink strong drink | James 2:10 | skccab | 211022
Shalom Pete, Welcome to the Forum. I hope you will stick around and study God's word with us. I'm at work right now so I don't know the exact verse, but I'm sure if you will read further, it states that you are to take the matter of your brother (or whoever) to the people in charge (the judges or elders or chieftans) and they are to DILIGENTLY search out the charges to see if they are true or not. And also, it's not talking about someone who just simply goes "psssst check this out..." it's talking about someone who comes in as one of your own and by his/her wiles leads you astray before you even know what has happened. Stay with the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament), they are a wonder and a joy to read. Cheri |
