161 | The Problem with WoF in a nutshell | Bible general Archive 2 | EdB | 96535
There you have it ApostoloB has spoken, if you oppose what he said your opposing God. Isn’t interesting when scripture won’t support their teaching they then turn to threats. What ApostoloB said that God told Brian is absolutely right God is in control and God states that clearly in His scripture. God’s word also said if someone comes to you with a different gospel than the one Paul taught we are to know it isn’t from Him. Word of Faith teaches a different Gospel and then tries to frighten you into accepting it by saying if you oppose this you oppose God. No one is opposing God we are opposing the fact that Word of Faith keeps putting word in God’s mouth which are different than what God spoke in His scripture. EdB |

newoldstock As a teacher you should instruct your people that the NIV they carry was published by a company that will go to any length to sell a book, even if it means changing the word of God. Which is exactly what Zondervan did when they created their gender neutral TNIV. They also broke solemn promises made about 5 years before saying they would not publish that Bible. These were made by Zondervan and the International Bible Society when the Chrsitian world orignially got wind of what they were doing. They let the furor die down by making the promise and then secretly began publishing it. I won't buy a thing from Zondervan. EdB |

newoldstock To a degree I agree. However if one of your students came in with a NWT or the book of Mormon surely you would point out their error. I imagine if you did it constructively they would probably thank you for "teaching" them. I don't think you need to give them a course in Bible marketing or a view of behind the scenes of Bible publishing, but I see nothing wrong with saying I have stopped using the NIV because of the lack of integrity the publisher has exhibited. I have noticed most people are seeking knowledge and if the teacher will tell them what Bible he favors and why, and what Bibles he avoids and again briefly why, many people will make the necessary adjustments. I have noticed most of the time if the teacher, leader or pastor specifies a Bible that will be the Bible a vast majority of the congregation will carry. EdB |

Jim Before you say or do anything read the information and pray! It sounds like you have a great ministry and I certainly don't want you to jeopardize it over something like this. Be very careful let the Spirit lead you. I would caution you strongly how you approach your pastor over this issue, he might not be aware what took place and by bringing it up you may make him feel like your one up-ing him. Or he could be very aware and made a decision to go forward with the NIV and if you bring it he may feel you are challenging that decision. So if your going to approach the subject only do it after much prayer and with great wisdom. EdB |

Newoldstock If the Pastor recommends it I would not say anythign because you could find yourself in conflict with the pastor. NIV is a good translation, I just don't like the publisher and how they handled what they did. But that has no effecon teh good or bad of the NIV. Therefore if your pastor recommends it then I would let the issue die. Be Blessed and keep up the good work of the ministry. EdB |

newoldstock I don't think you hammering me on this. I think we have a obligation as a teacher to make others aware when all is not as it seems. How we do it is what I'm cautioning you about now. you might try to determine the pastor’s position perhaps he is well aware of the situation but doesn't view it as a problem. Maybe he is total disagreement with Zondervan but has decided to continue to use the NIV, or he could be unaware and would like to know about the NIV situation. Or he could be unaware and really not care. Any of these positions are valid and he should not be judged by which position he has taken. However what you do should be based on your findings. EdB |

169 | types and symbols | Bible general Archive 2 | EdB | 98584
christian7 We have to be careful here putting meanings to things that may or may not hold up to scrutiny. A man name Bullinger loved to assign meanings to numbers but many times his assignments ended up conflicting with other uses of the number. Just as type and shadows does. One such example is Egypt it is very common to say Egypt represents sin. There are many types or shadows of this analogy. However we also see in Matthew 2:15 and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, "Out of Egypt I called My Son." We certainly can’t assume that since Egypt is often a type of shadow of sin that God called Jesus out of sin. Be very very careful in trying to assign meanings that the Bible doesn’t clearly state. Ephraim What did I say? I did a play on words 'chief' asked the question so I answered it that God was chief. Now my understanding of a chief is someone that runs things. Therefore calling God chief is saying God runs things. I think that coincides with your definition. EdB |

John I probably shouldn't say this and I doubt you will receive it, but I see in your answer a man who has an intellectualized understanding of God but is missing the passion, the zeal, fire of the personal loving relationship. I suspect you have never had the intense and emotionally charged experience of God’s presence simply embracing you, overpowering and overwhelming you. From that experience comes a compassion for the lost, it becomes your heart cry to see the people saved, your consumed not with an intellectual understanding of salvation but by the fire of passion ignited in you by the all consuming love of God. Figgy First the question was how do you share Jesus with someone that doesn't even believe the Bible is the word of God. My answer was show them what Jesus means to you. How would you do it? Better yet how many times have you don't faced with this exact situation? I face it nearly everyday so let me know what works for you. The question was not on the mechanics of salvation which quite frankly none of us truely understand since God did not completely reveal it. So let us not take it there. Secondly my response was to John and I will defend it to John should he so ask. EdB |
