121 | Creation and Restoration of the Earth | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 235392
First the word Katabole means to lay down a foundation. Not a flood so I don't know why you keep calling the flood a Katabole. Now the foundation of the earth was apparently laid and the ground was drawn from the waters to form dry land. Why is that so mysterious? Not God didn't create vain place, he prepared a perfect world for us to dwell in and Genesis 1:1-7 gives an overview of the stages that occured to accomplish that. 2 Peter 3:4-7 (NKJV) 4 and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation." 5 For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, 6 by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. Where is this talking of a two floods? It doesn't mention two floods yet you suggest that this passage simply ignores the Noah's Flood the one that destroyed all of mankind except Noah and his family and is talking of the Flood that is never mentioned anywhere else in scripture. God said we must have two or three witnesses for a verdict. Noah's flood and many times that number. Can you show me one other witness to this flood? As to name calling what name did I call you? I don't recall calling you any name and I reread my last post and I don't see any name calling. Please explain so I can correct myself if I did, it was never my intention to call anyone a name. If you are referring to my use of the term Strawman which I think you might be. I wasn't calling you that I was saying you were using strawman arguments which is commonly understood to mean your arguments are based on very weak implications being used to support ones position. |

You said "The first heaven and earth age, GOD creates this earth perfect and its millions of years old, God's children were happy you, me and all GOD'S children even sang together job 38;7,Gen.1:2 Satan rebells God totally destroys the earth not any thing left," There is absolutely nothing in the scriptures to support that. Nothing. You are talking verses that say one thing and questioning the meaning and changing them to infer what you want. This whole thing is pointless to discuss any further since scripture does not support or even hint at what you are projecting. The whole idea of a pre Adamic world and the gap theory was conceived by people to make scripture coincide with what science is suggestting. Almost everyday new discoveries are casting increasing doubt on the old earth theories. |

Okay once again we are at the so what place. If I concede, which I'm not, that there was an old earth one before Genesis 1:3 so what? As you have already said it was totally destroyed. It could have no effect us today. It becomes a so what. |

Bradk Sadly most of the Gap or Pre Adamic world comes via Pentecostalism and writings of Finis Dake, author of the Dake Bible. Now today when false teachers want to excite and stir the imagination of the people (read tickle their ears) they drift into the Pre Adamic world. Oh the excitement it stirs to hear ole brother "so in so" tell us all about that world where Satan got control and built himself dinosaurs. Just like Satan to build something that big with such a small brain. |

Or I paid my tithe every year. I was baptized I sang in the choir I was a deacon Yes I think there are some wrong answers. |

126 | Is believing in ransubstantiation a sin? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 235440
I realize percentage of people believing in something does not mean it is correct or not. However the correct or mistaken belief in something is a fair distance from being sinful. If a person’s belief is wrong but doesn’t oppose the basics of Christian orthodoxy I don’t see that person as being sinful, only wrong, mistaken or deceived. That said there are actually many views of Eucharist or Communion of which transubstantiation, consubstantiation, and memorialism are three. Of these three I could only see memorialism as being sinful if it is the incorrect interpretation. I say this because memorialism tends to reduce the Eucharist or Communion down in meaningfulness which I can see as being counter to what Jesus intended. The fact the Catholics hold to transubstantiation says that 60 percent of the people in the world that call themselves Christians agree with that interpretation or understanding. That leaves the 40 percent divided over consubstantiation, memorialism and I contend that there are even other views more moderate than memorialism. In any case the percentage of scholars and theologians and students are probably equally represented by the population numbers, so this means that approximately 60 percent of the Biblical Scholars, Theologian, and serious students of the scripture believe transubstantiation is the correct understanding for the way the Eurcharist or Communion should be handled. Does that mean if they are wrong they are in sin? I don’t think so I think that if they are wrong it means they are confused or have been deceived but I can think of no sin they have committed by their belief. So I stand by my original answer is it a sin to believe in transubstantiation? No but it could be a belief in misinterpretation and unless it was intentional that would not be a sin that I can find defined in scripture. |

127 | Does Christ return before seventh trump | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 235635
1 Corinthians 15:52 (NASB) 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. Again there is no scriptural connection to Revelation or number of trumpet sounds. It only says a trumpet will sound and it will be the last trumpet sound. |

What is really scarey about all of this, is the I don't think any of them know what sin of Abraham the question is talking about. So in effect they are learning nothing. |

129 | Aren't Isaelites and Jews, one people? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 236453
Actually, Most of the Middle East is comprised of Semitic people coming from Noah's son Shem. Of them there are Hebrews which are of the lineage of Abraham. Israelites which are of the lineage of Israel. Hebrew and Israelites are often collectively called Jews. However Jews are more properly defined as people that practice Judaism rather than being defined as a people group of some lineage or geographical area. Judaism is defined as a religion or worship of God first established by Abraham and later more fully defined through the Law given to Moses for the Children of Israel while in the wilderness. The three terms Israelites, Hebrews, and Jew are often applied to all people that practice the religion of Judaism. Ishmaelites that come from the lineage of Ishmael, the son of Abraham and his wife’s servant Haggar. It is an identity that was pretty much lost until the 7th century AD when it was fraudulently claimed by adherents of Islam in their attempt to usurp the heritage of Isaac and lay claim to the promises God made to Abraham. Arabs specify their identity apart from religion but today most mistakenly consider anyone living in the Middle East and not a Jew as being an Arab. Gentiles is the translation of the Hebrew term Goy or Goyim, it is usually applied to anyone that is does practice Judaism. Goy can also be translated pagan, heathen, or nation (as not part of the promised land of Israel). |

But for a non Jew to become a Jew he must practice Judaism. Once he converts he is considered a Jew. The fact that Jews consider non practicing Jews Jews is their business. But for a person born and raised in US of Christian parents to become a Jew he must practice the religion of Judaism. Hey what do I know I was only grafted into vine by blood of Jesus |

131 | Aren't Isaelites and Jews, one people? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 236496
"Jewish identity is a question of important significance within the Jewish community, and has done since earliest Biblical times. Non-Jewish definitions are bandied about -- for a variety of benign or malignant purposes -- for at least as long a time. None of it ever seems to dissolve in the light of the Word. Perhaps that just proves how little authority is placed on Scripture alone." See you learn something every day, until now I wasn't aware the definition of the word "Jew" was given in scripture. I wish someone would point out where the definition of the Jew is found in scripture. So in the future we could answer these questions with scriptual authority. |

132 | Aren't Isaelites and Jews, one people? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 236543
Your definition sounds good until we talk of a gentile that converts to Judaism. He is then called a Jew yet he does not meet the criteria you established as a requirement for being a Jew. And that is where your definition falls apart. |

134 | What does the Bible say about cremation? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 237037
We know upon death our bodies begin to decompose. Decomposition is caused by oxidation. The result is dust or ashes. Fire is just a rapid form of oxidation, it is the same process only at a faster scale. The result is the same, dust or ashes. In 2 Corinthians 5 Paul refers to our bodies as tents. What is precious is not the tent but the what is housed in tent and this we know leaves the tent when we die. I don’t think we should be callous with a dead body but I see no problem choosing rapid oxidation over a slower form of the same process. |

135 | How did God reward Joseph's faith? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 237038
You need to read the book of Genesis and the story of Joseph. Joseph endured many things but God rewarded Joseph in many ways. Read the story you will enjoy it. It starts in Genesis 37
136 | Christ/Joseph same purpose | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 237039
Again if you read the story of Joseph for yourself, you will find that Joseph accomplished for his nation what Jesus did for the world. Only Joseph's accomplishment was physical and temporal where Jesus' were spiritual and eternal. Read the story of Joseph in Genesis 37 and as you do keep in mind Jesus and you will see the similarities.
137 | Word only appears once | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 237327
hapax legomena; sometimes abbreviated to hapax, pl. hapaxes) is a word that occurs only once within a context, either in the written record of an entire language, in the works of an author, or in a single text. There are about 1,500 Hapax legomena in the Old Testament, however, due to Hebrew roots, suffixes and prefixes, only 400 are "true" hapax legomena. A full list can be seen at the Jewish Encyclopedia entry for "Hapax Legomena."[14] The Greek New Testament contains 686 local hapax legomena, which are sometimes called "New Testament hapaxes",[16] of which 62 occur in 1 Peter and 54 occur in 2 Peter.[17] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hapax_legomenon |

138 | Explain fornication -vs- kissing | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 237351
Fornication involves sexual intercourse, kissing is just that kissing. If two people are just kissing, both are single and both are willing then I don't see a problem.

140 | whats the difference betwwwen ascending | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 238136
Genesis 5:24 (NASB) 24 Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. This passage does not say anything about Enoch going up or ascending it only says he walked with God and was not. 2 Kings 2:11 (NASB) 11 As they were going along and talking, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire and horses of fire which separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind to heaven. Here this passage talks of whirlwind that lifted Elijah up. Acts 1:9-11 (NASB) 9 And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them. 11 They also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven." Here Jesus is lifted up and two men (angels?) attest to the fact that he is ascended and will one day return. I don't know about you but I see great differences in these disciptions. In the first two we really don't kwow where they are taken to. However in the case of Jesus we are told He is taken to heaven and will return. |
