G Preston Great chart! But I have one question how do you know the things listed under the KJV are God inspired? How do you know they weren't added by over zealous scribes? It a simple question you have two books one you say is correct and the other is wrong. In fact in this case you have 3 that agree with each other yet you say they are wrong and yours is right. Based on what proof? |

Actually we don't have one from the original manuscripts, since we don't have any original manuscripts. What we have are very reliable manuscripts but as we find older ones we see things that simply aren't there and things included that our manuscript doesn't have. The question becomes are these simple scribal mistakes or were they intentional deletions or additions done by zealous scribes. Some are fairly easy to identify, a missing title or jot can change the meaning of a original language word. Others are more problematic where many verses were added, could they be inspired or additions. Yes King James did use the best translators in the land at the time however new discoveries in the original language make even our average translators superior to most of his. Also King James did have an agenda, which was to justify his theological position on a number of issues. Interestingly in most cases his translation did just that. Coincidence or collusion? Know also the King James was preceded my some older English Translations. Such as the Great Bible and Geneva Bible and all three are slightly different for the others. |

I'm not sure why you felt it necessary to say what you did but you seem to suggest I built an opinion based on metaphor. Since I only listed a few common opinions and offered no discussion about them such as what they are based on. I don't see how you could reach that conclusion or even the purpose of you post. My intent was to present an understandable and valid reason why that question would be impossible to fully answer on this forum. Perhaps you simply wanted to prove my point. |

I don't see how any of these verses support your contention that upon inception our name is recorded in the book and then at the age of accountability it is removed and later recorded again when we are saved. Perhaps I'm reading them wrong would you be kind enough to list verse and where it says we are recorded, later removed and then rerecorded? |

Oh sorry, I misunderstood why you were posting them. I would really like to know what the scripture referrences are that support your conclusions on the book of life. |

G Preston Have I read the complete Bible? Yes many times! What Version? You name it I have read it through. My daily practice is to read 2 chapters of the Old Testment, a Psalm, a Proverb, and 2 chapters of the New testament each day. I usually stay in a one version for a year before I switch to another. In that year I have read the Old Testament through, Psalms twice Proverb through each month and the New Testament twice. I then switch to another version and begin again. Not included is personal devotion time, research time, and sermon prep time all requiring the additional reading of the word and use of many versions. Why did you ask? |

I can appreciate that and that is why I'm asking for the scripture. I'm evidently missing something you are seeing and I want to have my eyes opened.

G Preston I would like you to direct me to scripture that supports what you said when you said,"Upon birth a name is entered into the book of life. When one reaches the age of accountability the name is blotted from the book of life. Later when that person accepts Christ...thru repentance and baptism...the name is then entered into the ...Lambs book of life. Thus the reason for the two books." Thanks |

Justme I understand what you are saying completely however G Preston formed this opinion some how and I would like to know how. Was it scripture perhaps taken out of context? Was it teaching passed down? Was it a reading of scripture that I have never seen? I respect his opinion and would love to know what formed it, that is why I keep trying to get him to expand on what he said. I think when disrespect or mock another's opinion we often shut doors that were opened to allowed us all to learn and grow in God. Of course some opinions are so outside orthodox Christianity they need to be stopped before they get started but I don't think this is one of them. |

Actually the four go beyond that. There is Preterist, Historist, Dispensational/Futurist, Spiritual view of Eschatology and then when we get to the Tribulation we see the four you list and when we examine the Thousand years there is Ammillennial, PreMillennial and PostMillennial. Working through all those flavors and combinations should keep anyone busy for years. |

93 | A Melancholy Thing | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 233582
The most melancholy thing about human nature, is, that a man may guide others into the path of salvation, without walking in it himself; that he may be a pilot, and yet a castaway. Augustus William Hare and Julius Charles Hare, Guesses at Truth, by Two Brothers, 1827 |

So remember, you who profess to be followers of the Lord Jesus, that to you indifference is impossible! You must bless the church and the world by your holiness, or you will curse them both by your hypocrisy and inconsistency. In the visible church it is most true that "no man liveth unto himself, and no man dieth unto himself." Charles Spurgeon |

95 | Adultery always involves married woman? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 233655
EmethAlethia I made at least two posts today to you on this thread and the other. I can't find them so something must have happened to them. I will not repeat them however I will observe you experience to see if it agrees with my posts. Incidently you raise interesting questions, questions that require critical thinking I applaud your search for truth. |

97 | The Lord our God works through man, why? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 234100
DPMartin you said, "What the hay, are you talking about? If you didn’t understand that the question was simply about man/God and the relationship between God and mankind then, why did you try to answer?" I stand by my answer to the question as stated. If you want to append your question to specifically address God and Man's relationship, or how we came to get scripture, or God's used of willing servants down through the ages, or why God choose to bring forth the Messiah as He did you are free to do so. God is the Creator, man is the observer/recorder. |

99 | If not saved and suicide done Lost??? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 234164
I believe the real question is, "Can a Christian commit suicide?" As defined suicide is an act of hopelessness. Can one that truly believes in Christ be without hope? If so where did their hope go, Jesus promised never to leave us nor forsake us. |

G Preston I don't believe Christians will not be challenged and I believe like Job we will have hard choices to make whether to lose all hope and give up or to serve God. Remember even job's wife suggested that Job curse God and die. I think this is talking of suicide. Look at Joseph, who had more reason to commit suicide, his very life threatened by his brothers, who then sold him into slavery, then he was lied about and thrown in prison, after a time he was given a glimmer of hope by the wine server and baker who forgot about him. Suffering 15 years of hopeless imprisonment all for something he never did. The point I'm making is if we have made Jesus Lord of our life we have hope. Jesus promised never to leave us, so if we find ourselves without hope that means that Jesus was never truly and fully Lord of our lives. Our "salvation" was nothing more than lip service that we hoped would buy us a ticket to heaven. We never fully yielded our will and being to Jesus. Scripture says we must die to the flesh and become new creations. What many want to do is to be able to call on Jesus in times of need but determine their own course on everything else. They never really had the hope that comes from making Jesus totally and fully Lord of their lives |
