145 | Is it wrong to get a tatoo? | Lev 19:28 | New Creature | 153455
Personally, I never received a tattoo nor ever desired one. The following Scriptures spoke to me personally telling me that I shouldn't get any tattoos You are not to make gashes on your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves; I am the LORD. (Lev. 19:28 HCSB) 1 Cor. 6:19 Or know ye not that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which ye have from God? and ye are not your own; 1 Cor. 6:20 for ye were bought with a price: glorify God therefore in your body. (ASV) I consider my body to be the temple in which the Holy Spirit resides, therefore if my body is to be His temple, then I should not defile it by putting unnatural markings on it. The only marks on my body are scars. I want to keep this temple pure for His glory. Thats my two-cents worth |

147 | What is so wrong with Catholics | Bible general Archive 2 | New Creature | 148554
Good post Aixen; I often wonder if it is possible that since the Roman Catholic Church is full of tradition, that it may be possible that the following Scripture would apply to them. Mark 7:6 This people honoreth me with their lips, But their heart is far from me. Mark 7:7 But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men. Mar 7:8 Ye leave the commandment of God, and hold fast the tradition of men. Mark 7:9 And he said unto them, Full well do ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your tradition. Mark 7:13 making void the word of God by your tradition, which ye have From my observations. It seems to me as though it very well may. |

150 | What is so wrong with Catholics | Bible general Archive 2 | New Creature | 148185
I hear ya. I was listening to a radio show, and it was stated that it is likely that approximately 80 percent of those who believe they are saved, have never actually been born-again. And we know that Scripture says: "Except one be born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God! Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." (John 3:5,7) |

151 | What is so wrong with Catholics | Bible general Archive 2 | New Creature | 148086
EdB you said: "Christians on the other hand, should be the most fun people to be around" Maybe thats why people call them FUNdamentalist's I hear that quite often, but I don't see that portrayed in Scripture. Could you please provide me with some Scripture that would support that thought? I believe Christian's should have the peace that passes all understanding ruling and reigning in their hearts They should experience the joy of their salvation They should know the hope of eternal life which God has promised They should be sober They should be sincere without hypocrisy They should be generous They should show concern about the lost They should be salt and light They should love all people And I do. But should we expect the world to love us? Not from what I read in Scripture. |

152 | How best interpreting Psalm 141 : 4 ? | Ps 141:4 | New Creature | 148045
Psa 141:4 - Incline not my heart to any evil thing - Hebrew, to a word that is evil; that is, wrong. The connection seems to demand that the term should be thus explained. The expression “Incline not” is not designed to mean that God exerts any “positive” influence in leading the heart to that which is wrong; but it may mean “Do not place me in circumstances where I may be tempted; do not leave me to myself; do not allow any improper influence to come over me by which I shall be led astray.” The expression is similar to that in the Lord’s Prayer: “Lead us not into temptation.” The psalmist’s allusion here has been explained in the introduction to the psalm. To practice wicked works with people that work iniquity - To be united or associated with people who do wrong; to do the things which wicked and unprincipled people do. Let me not be permitted to do anything that will be regarded as identifying me with them. Let me not, in the circumstances in which I am placed, be left to act so that the fair interpretation of my conduct shall be that I am one of their number, or act on the same principles on which they act. Literally, “To practice practices in wickedness with people.” And let me not eat of their dainties - Let me not be tempted by any prospect of participating in their mode of living - in the luxuries and comforts which they enjoy - to do a wicked or wrong thing. Let not a prospect or desire of this overcome my better judgment, or the dictates of my conscience, or my settled principles of what is right. People often do this. Good people are often tempted to do it. The prospect or the hope of being enabled to enjoy what the rich enjoy, to live in luxury and ease, to be “clothed in short linen and fare sumptuously every day,” to move in circles of splendor and fashion, often leads them to a course of action which their consciences condemn; to practices inconsistent with a life of godliness; to sinful indulgences which utterly ruin their character. Satan has few temptations for man more attractive and powerful than the “dainties” which wealth can give; and there are few of his devices more effectual in ruining people than those which are derived from these allurements. The word here rendered dainties properly refers to things which are pleasant, lovely, attractive; which give delight or pleasure. It may embrace “all” that the world has to offer as suited to give pleasure or enjoyment. It refers here to what those in more elevated life have to offer; what they themselves live for." Just to clarify. I didn't say, I don't like being in their company. I said THEY don't like to be in my company. To them I'm boring. I'm not the party animal with the off-colored jokes. 1 Pet. 4:3-4 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: |

I'm glad I clarified and said: "These are merely my observations of the catholics I have personally come to know." Most of them don't like to be in my company, because I refuse their offers of alcohol, and cigars. Others because, I don't have any good dirty jokes to tell them, or because I don't stare at the same clanty scad woman when they say: "hey check this one out will ya". I'm sure not all are like that. Sad to say, all the ones I know are And I agree, that many Protestants of main-line denominations act no better. Especially the ones I have met from the liberal churches. Most from the liberal denominations tell me God is too loving and tolerant to condemn homosexuality. Just reporting what I observe from my neck of the woods |

I have quite a few catholic friends, and often the topic of religion comes up in many of our conversations. After conversing with many catholics, it is my opinion that catholics do not have a good working knowledge of Scripture. I have also observed that catholicism is based on traditionalism, externalism, and ritualism. Their religion doesn't appear to ever have been internalized. Religion to the catholics I have befriended is to pray the rosary. To pray to Mary. To not eat fish on Friday during Lent. etc. etc. To be honest, with you, I have yet to meet a catholic, whose religion has made a difference in the way he lives. Also, if you do a search you will find that the Catholic church which is based in Rome, believes that there is no salvation outside of the Catholic church. The Pope is called the Holy Father, and The Vicar of Christ on Earth. A couple of my Catholic friends have even told me that the priest has told them to not waste any time reading the Bible because they won't understand it anyway. The Catholic church is the only authority according to them that can properly interpret the Bible. And if you go to Mass on Sunday, then you can live like the Devil for the next six days, and get right with God the following Sunday. These are merely my observations of the catholics I have personally come to know. |

157 | Baptism | Matt 3:11 | New Creature | 145003
Briefly, "baptismal regeneration" is the belief held by some that, the new birth occurs at the time one is baptized in water. The Churches of Christ, etc, hold to this teaching. I personally disagree with the position of "baptismal regenerationist's" My belief is that, regeneration precedes faith. It is the initial inward illuminating work of God, within the individual who previously layed spiritually dormat or dead in tresspasses and sin. (Eph. 2:1,5) Regeneration is solely the work of God. Individuals are passive in this event. Faith or trust in Christ is the evidence of regeneration having occured. Before regeneration, individuals are not aware of their need for repentance, forgiveness, or baptism. Being spiritually dead they know not of their spiritually dead condition. Hope this helps |

158 | DENOMINATION | Eph 4:4 | New Creature | 144737
Aixen eluded to 1 Cor. which I consider an excellent text to study about division. The cause of denominatiolism arises from at least two sources. 1) False doctrine 2) Supposed false teaching. Denominationalism is unavoidable. It was unavoidable, but the right thing to do that the Reformation Period was to be a time of separation from the false teaching of the established church and hiearchy of it's day. Peter warned believers: "But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you." (2 Pet. 2:1) The false teachers as the verse above says will be "among you" believers. We see the same thing in the text below which Paul spoke to the elders of Ephesus. Act 20:28 Take heed unto yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit hath made you bishops, to feed the church of the Lord which he purchased with his own blood. Act 20:29 I know that after my departing grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock; Act 20:30 and from among your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. Act 20:31 Wherefore watch ye, remembering that by the space of three years I ceased not to admonish every one night and day with tears. Matthew also warned believers: "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves." (Matt. 7:15) |

160 | Matt 7:21 criteria for heaven | 1 John 3:9 | New Creature | 144358
Experience teaches us that just because we become Christian's, that we don't automatically become sinless. Christian's often fall into a lapse of sin. When they do they feel the Holy Spirit's conviction, repent and turn from any known or revealed sin. However if someone remained in a life of habitual unremorseful, and unconfessed sin, I would doubt whether or not that this person was ever saved. Christian's are not perfect. God is still working on them and in them and with them. It's a process which we call sanctification. |
